Israel Electric Company has been the target of envy of many Israelis for decades, known as a utility company that ‘takes care of its own’ at the expense of the nation. It would appear that State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss agrees, citing many problems with the upper management and running of the nation’s utility company.
In the 2008 report released by the State Comptroller’s Office on Monday, Lindenstrauss speaks of granting contracts without tenders as required by law, giving de facto approval to projects and a great deal more.
The report addresses the beginning of construction of the utility company’s northern office building in 1995, doing so without tenders and in disregard of the law. The contract with the CPM Company for the project was only signed two years into the project. This resulted in unauthorized expenses and NIS millions being wasted.
