Tuesday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


Two Kassam rockets landed in southern Israel early in the morning. Baruch Hashem, no injuries were reported.

**A 54-year-old Kiryat Chaim resident was transported to the burn unit of Rambam Medical Center in Haifa after sustaining serious burns when a blaze erupted in his home.

**Israel counter-terror officials are urging Israelis to stay away from Sinai during Pessach. The comprehensive travel advisory also warns Israeli businessmen operating in Muslim countries, and also calls on Israelis in certain countries to leave immediately. That list includes Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Iran, and Afghanistan. There are also a number of stern concrete threats for a number of areas including the Kenyan coast.

**Dr. Uzi Arad is expected to be named head of the National Security Council.

**State Comptroller Lindenstrauss cited inappropriate monetary behavior among a number of senior Kadima officials regarding the primary campaign.

**Incoming ministers report they are receiving tens and in some cases hundreds of CVs (resumes), many from former hi-tech employees, seeking any position on their staff as the new government assembles. The designated incoming ministers add the many applications seek any job, including as a driver.

**A 21-year-old Ramallah resident was apprehended on Highway 1 in the direction of the Dead Sea traveling 215 KPH (129 MPH) in a 90 KPH (55 MPH) zone. The driver was arrested and his BMW impounded.

**Israeli and American social workers joined in a workshop in Israel last week. The professionals in both countries are preparing for a possible increase in domestic violence related to the economic crisis.

**Senior Likud officials indicate Binyamin Netanyahu has offered Silvan Shalom the Industry & Trade or Transportation ministries, making it clear that he will not serve as foreign minister.

**The Saudi al-Watan newspaper announced Turkey has halted mediation efforts towards obtaining the release of Gilad Shalit, citing a lack of Israeli cooperation and unreasonable demands by Hamas as the reasons for the decision.   

**Avigdor Feldman, a senior defense attorney for Moshe Katsav, told Israel Radio on Tuesday that in all likelihood, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz will be called as a witness by him during the upcoming trial.

**Employees of the Ohf Ha’emek factory in Ramat Yishai have declared a Purim fast and have donned sackcloth as they are in the third day of the lockdown, remaining in the factory that is threatened with closure.
