Egyptian Soldier Shot and Wounded by IDF Soldier at Border


Shots were fired in the Egyptian border area on Monday morning at about 8:00am. IDF soldiers returned fire, injuring an Egyptian officer, Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reported.

It appears soldiers operating north of Eilat spotted a suspicious person near the border, firing a warning shot in the air in accordance to procedural protocol. An Egyptian policeman fired at them, compelling soldiers to return fire, moderately wounding the officer.

The incident is under investigation. There were no reports of injuries to IDF personnel. The area was closed down to civilian vehicles following the incident.
