The Senate on Thursday rejected two competing health care bills, making it almost certain that Obamacare subsidies used by over 20 million Americans will expire at the end of the year.
Senators voted 51–48 to advance a GOP plan expanding health savings accounts as an alternative to the outgoing tax credits. A Democratic plan to extend the Covid-era enhanced subsidies for three years also received a 51–48 vote. Both measures fell far short of the 60 votes needed to clear a key procedural hurdle.
