Boro Park – MAJOR ARMED ROBBERY!!

armedgunman.jpgLast evening at approximately 9:00 pm the home belonging to R’ Volf Zicherman (Rosh Hakahal of Munkatch) was burglarized by two masked armed gunmen. They broke in through a back window of the home, tied up R’ Volf Zicherman and his wife and made off with millions of dollars. A neighbor had witnessed the masked perpetrators exiting the home carrying large bags and quickly entered the home to find them bound and gagged to their beds. The perpetrators escaped and the NYPD are working tirelessly to catch them.–YW Editor.

  1. Baruch Hashem, R’ Volf and his wife were not harmed. However, I question their judgment keeping millions of dollars at home rather than depositing it in the bank. At least if the bank was robbed, the bank would be responsible to pay them back. I feel most of all for the poor and destitute for whom much of the money was targeted.

  2. We need to be VERY careful whom we hire to clean and fix things in our houses, especially during the pre Yom Tov rush. Remember that many of the cleaning ladies and construction workers who work in the NYC area are illegal aliens from impoverished Latin American and Asian backwaters. All they need to do is get a gang together and pull off one big robbery for them to be able to return to the holes that they came from and buy the entire village.

Some Israeli and Russian handymen are just as dangerous as the shkootzim – of course most are acheinu bnei Yisroel but if you hire them, either use a trusted agency or get references that can be checked. Otherwise, if you find your kiddush cup missing, take a ride to Brighton Beach or Rego Park and see how much the Russian or Bukharan (sad story – a proud community once known for its emuna pshuta has developed a dangerous element of organized crime in the US, Israel and the former Soviet Union) fence wants for it.

Bonded agencies may be worth the extra expense, especially if you have cash, jewelry or silver around. Should something go wrong, the agency’s insurance company pays the damages.

And indeed it is not a good idea to store cash at home.

  3. ……………And THAT was the LAST comment.
