WEATHER ALERT: Snow, Subzero Temps Forecast For NYC Area


coldThe New York City area could get up to seven inches of snow and wind chills gusting up to 60 miles per hour as bands of stormy weather blow through the northeast.

National Weather Service meteorologist John Murray says a winter weather advisory is in effect for the metropolitan area until Sunday at 1 p.m. A high wind warning is in effect through Sunday with winds gusting from 30 to 60 miles per hour.

An extremely cold air mass is moving into the region on Sunday night. Wind chills could drop as low as 15 to 25 degrees below zero.

New York City officials have issued a travel advisory warning of near-blizzard conditions and low visibility. Officials say New Yorkers should exercise caution when driving.
