“And I do believe the kol koreh’s do have a positive effect on the public.”

We will have to agree to disagree. I see no toeles in anonymous posters on street lights. Is there a name of a Rav, signed on to the particular poster this thread is discussing? If yes, that is great (and out of curiosity, who) if not, why not. One would think that if

“it is a very unfortunately a massive widespread problem” Rabbonim would be out in the forefront of the battle to correct such a problem and would gladly lend their name to such a poster.

Golden mom you are 100% correct. I personally have no teenage daughters, but I do have a wife. It is up to me to say something to my wife, if I believe she is wearing something that she should not. If someone feels I am shirking my responsibility in this area, I personally believe the best way for them to deal with it is not by hanging posters on the street lights, but rather to call my Rav, or his Rebbetzin and point it out to them and let them deal with it in the way they see fit. Anonymous posters on street lights are about as effective as squirting bleach.

Whatever the motivation for not showing pictures of women, even black and white photos of a partially obscured faces, the publications should just use seichelin what they do and how they do it. How did the “non heimishe” world find out about “der tzeitung”, did some disgruntled housewife from monroe call them to complain about it?

“Yes there are such signs in dressing rooms, but do all the people read them???”

Is this particular poster hanging in clothing stores?

So, are any of these posters hanging in the dressing rooms of the heimishe stores that sell this type of clothing? Near the register?

“On the one hand it is inappropriate to daven without a yamalkah,”

Not just inappropriate, it is one of the things that is meakev shomneh esrei (see rambam hilchos tefilla), he would have had to daven again. I would have told him it must have fallen off in the hall and given him mine.

Pac Man, I don’t have to believe every urban legend that makes claims in the name of Rav Shach. If you choose to believe it, that’s your business.

Back to the posters under discussion. Do they cite sources for their rulings? Do they state which Rav reviewed the halachos? Is a single one of these posters hanging in or near an establishment that sells clothing they don’t approve?

Note: They dont put pictures of frum women next to cars either. They wouldnt use a picture of Hillary Clinton or Barbara Bush either.

Not so simple. If it is TOO long the tznius police are on your case as well.

“Are you amused with what the Ralbag and the Baalei HaTosfos said, or are you amused that it was said out loud?”

Neither. Just the interpretation offered. When I have time to learn through the Ralbag, I’ll go through it and offer my own interpretation of what he means.

When I see anonymous bulletins, posters or signs telling people what they are supposed to do, how to do it, when to do it, where to do it and who to do it with. If you can’t put your name on it, don’t put it out.

“Btw, if the signs were encouraging shmiras haloshon instead of tznius, why would some of the people getting upset now then not be as upset as they are here?”

I personally don’t like anything that tells people what to do, how to act, what to say, where to go, what to do, when to do it or in general gives mussar to others, that is anonymous.

Mbachur. I wouldn’t want to incur your wrath seeing that you killed a mountain lion with your bare hands 🙂

Nevertheless, I think the MB/Bach take issue with “just singing” if just for enjoyment (see what they say about those singing while going about their work).

I suppose it also depends on your definition of “shiros visishbachos”. If you are “just singing” and waving your hands wildly in the air, is that the shiros visishbachos the Bach/MB had in mind?

“it’s the same as singing shabbos zmiros”

See the mishna berura in sif kattan yud daled and tes vav. I’m not so sure. Certainly a lot of the music that is sold does not fit this.

“The chiluk is that singing w/o musical instruments is different than with musical instruments, it’s the same as singing shabbos zmiros”

So, again, R’ Moshe asks, who permitted music (as we know it – not acapella) the entire year. Perhaps we should be listening to acapella the entire year. To imply that the music we listen to all year is not problematic and the only thing under discussion is acapella during sefira and then imply R’ moshe agrees with this as well, doesnt seem correct from what I know of the teshuva. R’ Moshe still asks who permitted listening to music the entire year.

The Mishne Brura in sif kattan yud gimmel quoting the Bach is pretty clear about this too, unless you have a different understanding of this mishna berura/bach.

“In other word, because he needs her so much.”

So, to take it to its logical conclusion. If everything attributed to the Ralbag is true, how pathetic must men be that they are so reliant on women (who have been described as “inferior to the male”)!

“(Since we women often check our reflections in store windows, maybe caring proprietors would be willing to have these guidelines printed directly on their windows)”

Seems to me that an effective place for these signs are the clothing stores.

Let me guess, these signs are anonymous or are signed by the “vaad limishmeres hatznius”, which is about as anonymous as the vaad linikayon hamerchatz.

Buki Sruki, if I’m not mistaken, are empty bottles. Basicly ascribing something to someone, when they never said it.

I’m curious what the Ralbag says on the passuk of “vidavak B’Ishto”. Why should a man cling to his wife who is inferior to him, and why would the Ralbag stand for something like that if he was a misogynist? surely, if these ideas ascribed to the Ralbag are true, he would have something to say about this.

    “Rav Moshe”

Interesting, Rav Moshe wants to know who permitted listening to music any time during the year. See Orach Chaim, Siman Tav Kuf Samech, Sif Gimmel.

A similar scam involves a company claiming to clean your chimney for some ridiculously low amount and when you invite them in and they inspect, watch out. Suddenly you have an accumulation of gasses and the chimney is about to fall apart and of course they must report this to the gas company right away and shut off your gas. for the mere sum of $1100 they can have everything fixed within 2 hours. If you need your chimney cleaned, call the oil company or gas company you always do business with, call a friend or neighbor and get a recommendation, DON’T invite in someone who cold calls you.

Why is blue and white tacky? Why does it have to be a zionist “thing”, why can’t it be a political “thing” if one lives outside Israel. If one lives in Israel and chooses to wear blue and white, why is it a zionist thing and not national pride? Is national pride a bad thing?

If you don’t like the rules, don’t send your daughter there is an excellent policy. What do you tell the fathers of those 8th grade girls whose schools instituted such a policy, this year and notified the parents of such a policy, after pesach.

Again, I personally am for any policy that says I don’t have to sit and listen to anyone speak.

Whether the english program is 4 hours or 4 minutes, it is crucial that it is taken seriously by the yeshiva as well as the students. If not, it is bittul zman, which is probably worse than bittul torah.

Whatever program the yeshiva has, the students should be encouraged to do their very best and be given the tool to do so (which includes qualified teachers – qualified to teach the subject matter, not qualified by religious practice) anything else and the program is a waste of time.

You can not, nor should you try, to change your mother in law and how she acts, reacts or speaks in given situations. You are responsible for yourself, and to educate your children. When it comes to your children, you and your wife call the shots, not MIL or anyone else. If visiting undermines this basic principle, let MIL (FIL too) know that this is an issue, and until it is resolved you must avoid situations where it occurs. She will probably be insulted, may yell and scream and blame you for taking her grandchildren away from her, but ultimately, how you raise your children falls on your shoulders (and your wifes – if your wife agrees with her mother, you have bigger problem to deal with), not hers. If you have a Rav, seek guidance how to balance the mitzvah of kibbud av and her interfering in raising your children how you see fit.

What are charedim expected to do that they currently do not and conversely, what are they expected not to do that they currently are, in “celebration of yom hashoah.
