hereorthere – “Are you saying that Rav Feinstein would eat from all those heschers you mentioned, that Rav Gronish would not eat from?”

I’m using your logic, so unless you know otherwise, I’ll assume that Rav Moshe would have eaten OU Heinz ketchup and Tam Tam crackers and KAJ or Weismandl chickens, to name a few.

There is no reason to say that Rav Moshe would not have eaten from these worthy hashgachos.

There is nothing wrong for someone to change their hanhagos when they marry into certain families, Rabbonim have done it all the time; even my own Rav. And no one has questioned Rav Gonish’s integrity.

But I know Rav Gornish going back over forty years and he has certain chumras which is incorporated into his l’chadchila hashgacha, and that’s why people of like minds use him.

CY is normally a l’chatchila, but in America it’s a chumra since CS in America is c’mo CY.

B’shas Hadchak means if you want to put milk in your coffee and there is only Clolov Stam on the table, so you can use C.S.; or if you want a Hershey Bar and there are only C.S. Hershey Bars, so B’shas Hadchak you can eat the C.S. Hershey Bar. Or if you are shopping at the A&P and they only have C.S. products and not C.Y. so B’shas Hadchak you can buy the C.S.

But, if when you want milk in your coffee and there are both C.S. and C.Y. milk on the table, you should use the C.Y.

Mod – “I’m pretty sure no one changed your wording. Go ahead and restate it.”

Actually, it was changed, but I don’t want to get into that now nor am I going to restate. This topic has been discussed in depth previously in the CR.

But the big thing today is perceptions. Many products don’t need hashgacha, but once you have a hashgacha on a product; ipso facto the same product without hashgacha is considered treif in the consumer world, but not in the hashgacha world. There are people who will only use heimeshe hashgachos and put down the OU as not being a good hashgacha. But heimeshe hashgachos do rely on the OU for many of their hashgachas.

But what’s even worse are the catering/take out establishments; once the food leaves the place, no one is in charge…both in terms of kashrus and also chillul Shabbos. I am in a position to know and can back this up with numerous first hand observations. Hashgacha/mashgiach makes little difference. I don’t know if it’s the same out of New York.

Cholov Yisroel versus Stam is the least of our problems but the easiest to criticize.

It’s obvious that the parties involved and the DA know the story and they’re not going to persue or talk. Probably an internal conflict that was settled and the goods were returned via the DA peacemaker. I doubt anyone received the $10,000 reward.

WolfishMusings – The cheesecake on Shevuos is not going to give anyone a heart attack.

Memaila: If you need to lose weight or need to monitor your cholesterol level, it’s not the cake you eat on Yom Tov that’s going to put you over the top; give the musser for the eating before or after Yom Tov, but don’t make the oneg Yom Tov a karbin for the indulgence the rest of the year.

And if your levels are ok, again, it’s Yom Tov; don’t deny yourself the “Chtzee La’chem”.

koma, no one has ever gotten a heart attack C”V from eating cheesecake/pie on Shavuous; the richer, the better.

I have the best recipe ever for cheese pie; everyone says that nothing comes close to it (original crust, no sour cream or farmer cheese and not overly sweet). However, the recipe is sworn to secrecy.

“and they did not have both meat and dairy dishes yet, and were unable to use their dishes that day (Shabbat) until they were rendered Kosher by the proper process of “kashering” utensils. Thus their meal was a dairy meal.”

So how did they prepare and eat their dairy meal with non-kosher keilim? And weren’t b’nai yisroel eating the mon at the time? Is this where the minhag came to have cold-cuts on Shabbos?

Volvie, one the biggest mitzvos today is to buy a Mother’s Day card since when do so; you are supporting Torah in a very remarkable way.

It is well known that Artscroll Publishers are a major factor in the growth of Torah to the English speaking world and gives parnossa to countless talmedei chachomim on their staff.

A major benefactor and sponsor of Artscroll is the Sapirstein family.

American Greetings was founded in 1906 by Jacob Sapirstein and has been run by members of the family since then. Irving I. Stone, Sapirstein’s oldest son, was succeeded as CEO by his son-in-law Morry Weiss in 1987, and grandchildren Zev and Jeffrey in 2003.

In addition, the Stone and Weiss famalies give huge amounts to other tzedaka causes.

No volvie, give her something special, for her. The flowers should be l’kavode Shabbos or Yom Tov; it’s like giving your wife a vacuum cleaner for your anniversary…if you have to accommodate her.

Yeah, I guess you’re right; mothers are just being silly when they enjoy good wishes on Mother’s Day. But if they have to be accommodated, we have no choice, sigh…

And do you think a mother or wife would feel a bit more special if you gave them flowers during the week without piggybacking on Yom Tov or Shabbos?

I guess you have to be lucky to have a wife or mother who doesn’t appreciate a gift on her birthday or Mother’s Day; it may save you some cash, but trust me, you get it all back.

That’s like saying: How much greater would Rav Aharon Kotler or Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky have been if they had not read classical literature in their younger years or how much greater would the Lubavitcher Rebbe or Rav Hutner have been had they not studied in the university. Or how much greater would Moshe Rabeinu have been had he not been raised by Pharoh’s daughter.

All the American Roshei Yeshiva worked on their Mother’s Days projects when they were kids (and all Yeshivos celebrated it); like Thanksgiving. I guess it them no harm.
