There are substantial g’virim in Flatbush who live close to this location. Where are they when it really makes a difference?
Maybe if we had a dinner and made them and family chairmen they would care to get involved.

All of the local frum yeshivas and camps rent the East Midwood Jewish Center’s pool and gym for their programs for top dollar.
The one thing that the EMJC understands is money. But our community mosdos are not united enough for a plan of action because they want the pool and gym no matter what.
If they were really serious and refused to deal with the EMJC and boycotted their rentals, it’s unlikely EMJC would be acting in this manner.

“צריך אדם להתרחק מהנשים מאד מאד”.—if this was taken literally, you and the rest of the world, past and present, would not function.

And why is it muter to put someone else in the situation that you don’t want to be in.

Also, it would be useful if the airlines would identify which seats were selected by people who do not shower or use deodorant. Or by people who need the toilet alot. Or need to do their davening out of their seats. Or need to unwrap mounds of plastic wrap from their special foods. Or who need to walk around the plane looking for people they know.

Joseph, I would never give up my seat to sit next to a crying baby. And I have never seen anyone do so. Unless, of course you have a better seat to offer for the exchange. So I suggest you buy a business class seat and offer it to a coach flier if the occasion arises. It would be a small price to pay to avoid a lav if that is your view.

I am against chillel Hashem or chillel Shabbos, especially if it can be avoided by taking care of issues before they become problems. That is the shulchan aruch way.

Joseph then would agree that it is not a sin to sit next to a woman; rather it is a sin to enjoy looking at a woman’s pinky finger.
It is also not the responsibility of the airlines that customers not violate their moral weaknesses when it is too late to start rearranging airline seating.
Perhaps, people should not risk traveling so close to the start of Shabbos and, if it a problem for them, they should likewise request special seating prior to arriving at the airport or they should take their wives with them when traveling, no matter the hardship.

If you want to do a chesed for a fellow Jew, give them a gift of flowers or candy; not your property. And klugeryid, what is your address so that I can take advantage of your wonderful generosity and give you another opportunity for chesed.

Seven Mile Market and the owners give enormous amounts of support to Baltimore Jewish institutions and individuals in need and has done so for decades.
And they don’t have to asked for assistance, they are loyal partners of the community and know the community well.
It is unlikely that any interloper kosher supermarket will come anywhere near to Seven Mile Market’s commitment.
For this alone, Seven Mile Market should be supported exclusively by the Baltimore Jewish population.

The intermarriage rate in the USA among Jews is over 60%; this includes Orthodox. Among the non Orthodox alone, the rate is over 70%. When you remove the Orthodox from the numbers, at least 35% of the non-Orthodox Jewish population are not Jewish since half are female. When factoring in other considerations, the proportions are much higher.

It also depends on your priorities in Kashrus; and there are conflicting types of hashgachos.
For instance, some food items are Yoshon but not Cholov Yisroel or Pas Yisroel.
While other food items are Cholov Yisroel or Pas Yisroel but not Yoshon.
Some foods are Glatt, but not as reliable as the non-Glatt alternative.
Other hashgachos rely on the oven light for Pas Yisroel or a timed ignition while some want a live person to light the fire. Some will rely on a camera to act as a mashgiach while others want a live person.
M’ikor hadin, based on percentages, reading the ingredient content on the wrapper or box is good enough. I heard this from a Torah giant many years ago.
I miss the good times when that’s all we had to do.
