The Rabbenu Bachaya in Parashas Vayechi explains that Yaakov refers to the physical whereas Yisroel the spiritual, so both are true.
    Yaakov + Satan = 182 + 359 = 541 = Yisroel. Yaakov by fighting the Satan encompasses his power.

To explain the Tur calendar referred above:

There are three functions that need to be performed. One, find the 19 year cycle the current year resides in, two, find the current year in the cycle and three, determine the holidays within the current year.
There are three calendar parts. The top of page 1 is used to find the current year in the cycle, the bottom page the cycle and page 2, the holidays.
    1. To find the current 19 year cycle, look for a year entry that either is equal to the current year (choose it) or an entry which is less and next enry is greater and choose the lesser.
    2. From the top of the page count down line by line from the beginning of the chosen cycle year until you reach the current year. Remember the designation of the beginning of the line by either a ‘peh’ for a simple, peshuta year or a ‘mem’ for leap, meubar year. Find the intersection between chosen vertical year cycle entry and the horizantal current year.
    3. On the page 2, either in the peshuta or meubar year find the column entry that the two letters intersected and read off the holidays.
The two letters in the intersection indicate, one, the day when Rosh Hashana occurs and two, whether cheshvan and kislev are defficient, a ‘ches’, choser or full, a ‘shien’, shalem or even, in order, kesidran, a ‘chaf’.

It says והיה ה’ למלך על כל הארץ Hashem will be King, it does not say מושל, ruler. The difference they say is the a king is accepted whereas a ruler is forced. So Aisov will accept leosid lova, the rule of Hashem by doing teshuva.

Keeping shabbos does not mean that we can phycally destroy the environment given to us. As Hashem transferred the climate function to nature, olam keminhoga nohag, we might not be worthy to create a miracle to change the effect of our actions.

Aisov is fake like a chazir showing his cut hoofs. Sometimes Aisov behaves like Yakov to fool us and catch us off guard. Leosid Lova, the chazir wiil be permited as a it will become a new creation being maalas gero, rechew. Aisov will do teshuva.

The climate chages through the seasons determined by the sun whereas Jewish holdays are determined through the moon. Pesach is spring and Succos fall time causes a Jewish leap year 7 times in 19 years in order that lunar year having normally 354 days and the solar year 365 1/4 days even itself out. The pnemonic is guchadzut, 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17, 19 year in 19 years becomes a Jewish leap year. A calendar is available in the Tur after siman 428 which enumerates each of the 19 years determined by Cheshvan and Kislev if they are deficient, both 29 days, full, both 30 days or even one 29 days and the other 30 days. The rest of the months cycle between 29 and 30 days. 6×29 + 6×30 = 174 + 180 = 354 days. The variation of the two months above causes the movement of Rosh Hashanah as Adu lo Rosh, the Rosh Hashanah cannot fall on Wednesday or Friday. Rosh Hashanah cannot be on a Sunday in order Hashanah Rabba should not fall on a shabbos eliminating the knocking off the hashanas.

Rash in Parshas Noach, mishom hefitzom differentiates between dor hamabul and dor hafloga. Dor hamabul was destroyed because of lack of unity but by dor hafloga the unity protected them and they got punished by breaking up the unity. The Sifri says from Ephraim (Hoshea 4,17) that peace protects even from a’z. If there is no unity in a shul, Hashem escapes from there as I and him cannot reside in a one place.

How does a person gain a higher level of neshama in Gan Eden? Maybe through the children and talmidim left behind as it says, holech tomim it does not say holach in the past, so he can continue elevating himself even after death.

I explain from the Sefer Habris the 25 levels of neshama. Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Chayah, Yechidah, starting from nefesh shebenefesh, ruach shebenefesh, etc. As a person elevates himself, the yetzer hara becomes stronger, כל הגדול מחבירו יצרו גדול ממנו, so he gains a higher level of neshama in order to balance each other and be able to fight it on an even level.

The answer is that we come to this world to fight the yetzer hara by improving ourselves and others and for that there is reward and punishment. The reward and punishment indicates how much nachas ruach, enjoyment we give to Hashem in doing mitzvos.

The Baal Haikrim combines the 13 beliefs of the Rambam into 3. One, belief in Hashem, two, reward and punishment and three, the Torah is heavenly. If for know effort a person gained olam habo, reward and punishment would be completely eliminated.

Torahval,  The Torah requires us to do everything possible when it comes to pikuach nefesh as safek pikuach nefesh trumps Shabbos and Yom Kippur. When tzadikim of all ages are dying all over, we have the utmost responsibility to protect ourselves and others in anyway possible.

The question is, why the neshomo should come to this world to earn its keep and not enter olam habo right away? The neshomo does not want nehama dekesufa, bread of shame, free bread without working for it.

charlie, it says that listening to the Torah is the true freedom חרות על הלוחת אל תקרא חרות אלא חרות not as ‘o’ sound, meaning the letters carved, under the ches but ‘ei’ meaning freedom. A person controlled by the yetzer hara, bad inclination, is not really free.

No at my time Rav Yosef Steiner Hakohen was the Dayin but I knew him. You know, ein mashivin al hadrush, you can ask but I don’t have to answer. I asked Rav Yosef whether you can put food on radiator before its get hot. Rashi goes by the time being there but the Rosh goes by the place according to which we pasken and would not be allowed.

A cute double entendre I heard:

How שלוחו של אדם כמותו – a messenger of person is like himself. How is it that Adam Harishon did not die right away? One answer is 1000 years of Hashem is like a day. Another by being chased out of the Gan Eden is like dying.

I think your explanation above is similar to the Targum Yonathan. Rachel says, you will not be able to deal with him because he is a trickster, Yakov answers I am also a trickster and smarter from him and Hashem will not allow him to do bad to me.

Hashem wanted that Yaakov Avinu be fooled in order to get down to mitzraim. The holy Alshich explains the meaning of the pasuk arami oved avi vayered mitzraim. If Yaakov would not have been fooled, then he would have married Rachel first, Yosef would have been the bechor, there would have been no place for jelousy to sell him and no reason to go down to mitzraim.

The ladder united, through its rungs, according to the Ksav Sofer, teaches us how a human being can elevate himself from the ground to the heaven with the help of others. Sulom full with a ‘vov’ is the same gematria as kol, tzom and moman each 136 together 408 as the be’zos’ yova Aharon which refers to teshuva, tefila and tzadah. Yaakov Avinu united all the rocks into one matzeva.
Yaakov Avinu realized that the thing that separates holiness is the ego, אנכי עומד בין ה’ וביניכם, says the Baal Shem Tov ztz’l that the ego, anochi separates us from Hashem. אכן יש ה’ במקום הזה, I said, if we want holiness in a place, ואנכי לא ידעתי we must set aside the anochi, the ego.
