Avram, those legally claiming asylum at an official border crossing are unaffected by the recent policy changes. And are not subject to this new zero tolerance prosecution resulting in parents being separated from children.

Avram: Asylum laws in the US only cover government persecution and not leaving a crime-ridden country or seeking a better economic environment. I don’t think the governments in El Salvador and Honduras are persecuting citizens.

Halacha does not permit a Beis Din to order a Get be involuntary given in the absence of a basis specifically and directly outlined by Chazal and Shulchan Aruch where a Get is mandatory under Halacha.

This same Halacha applies to both the US and Israel.

Frank, you’re incorrect about it being “pretty much established and accepted that the Jewish establishment has” accepted the validity of a Get issued under threat of secular legal penalty.

The Nobel Peace Prize should be called the Yassir Arafat Peace Prize, after that great peacemaker who was awarded this prize.

If Pres. Donald J. Trump, or any other good person for that matter, is offered this junk prize they should publicly reject accepting it.

If the husband must give the Get under New York, Israeli or any other secular law under penalty of finances or imprisonment, and does so for that reason, then the Get is halachicly invalid and is as if it was never given.

frumtd & RY23: I never advocated locking up the children in jail. But if the parent commits a crime, whether the crime is breaking into the border, drunken driving or breaking into a store, he’s jailed without his children. Especially if he’s a flight risk or risk he’ll never show up for trial, as experience shows is the case for the vast majority of illegal aliens who are released into the public conditioned on them voluntarily returning for trial or deportation. They usually never come back to the authorities and disappear into illegal alien underground communities throughout the US. So it is both sensical and correct to hold these illegal aliens until trial and/or deportation.

The fact they brought their children with them on their illegal actions is no one’s fault but their own. No different than parents who commit other crimes and are jailed without their children.

When parents are jailed and their children have no parents, the authorities place their children in a foster home or with relatives. Same as what’s happening to the illegal alien children. No different than anything else.

How is separating a person who broke the law and was arrested for illegally breaking into the border from his children when he’s jailed for his crime any different than separating a person who broke the law and was arrested for illegally breaking into Walmart from his children when he’s jailed? Or any different than separating a person who broke the law and was arrested for drunken driving from his children when he’s jailed.

CTL, how can they redirect you to another facility if they don’t know whether the other facility will, similar to them, decline service?

In any event, I would think that child birth is considered to be an emergency situation.

My understanding is that Liberty will provide reimbursement regardless of which hospital or provider you use. The only difference is whether the provider will accept payment directly from Liberty or whether you’ll have to get the payment from Liberty and pay the provider yourself.

Since all hospitals in the US cannot refuse service even if the patient does not pay, you presumably can use any hospital without paying upfront and pay once you receive payment from Liberty.

The Coffee Room uses off-the-shelf software called bbPress (which itself is a plug-in to WordPress, which the YWN main site uses.) Therefore changes are generally limited to whatever bbPress plug-ins are available to make specific or certain changes. If the site owner wants to make a change that there’s no ready-made plug-in to accomplish, he needs to hire expensive programmers to custom write it for him. Most sites limit themselves to whatever is freely available already.

“lt is clear that no one in the world has the authority to establish guilt without both [the accuser and accused] coming to an accepted bais din for the matter to be heard amongst “brothers.” lf one does this [establishes guilt without a determination of a bais din] even if he is “as tall as a cedar treeיי [a great scholar] he has made an absolute error. And more so he [the accuser] may not take any damaging action against the accused and even more so may not bring any accusation to the secular authorities. Such actions [reporting made to the secular authorities] are elucidated in [Shulchan Aruch] Choshen Mishpat chapter 388 [which discusses the penalties for “mesira” reporting to the secular authorities]. And there can be no [Jewish law] lawful and righteous means [to report to the secular authorities] other than to first show that one has in their possession a clear detailed ruling in writing from an expert Bais Din that includes specifics of the matter. And if one violates this ruling and commits the deed of reporting to the secular authorities it is incumbent upon him to rectify this misdeed and do everything possible to clear the accused of any trace of allegations with the secular authorities. And it does not need to be said that it is prohibited to assist and participate with them [the secular authorities] in their efforts to persecute a Jew.”

The problem with the Reform and Conservative is numerically much larger than with the Russians. But the issue with the Russian BTs described by igorleningrad is essentially the same halachic problem as what I described in the OP regarding the Reform and Conservative BTs.

Neville: As you see from RefoelZeev’s personal experience described above, though he was trying to point out that it is “only” a small percentage of BTs, he too personally knows 2-3 BTs who turned out to be gentiles *after* “becoming frum”. Who knows how many more of his acquaintance were also like that but he or even they never caught that they aren’t Jewish. And who can even count how many there are there out in the wider world.

And igorleningrad, above, brings another hencetofore undiscussed angle of this same problem. With the Russians. Again affecting large numbers of people.

This idea appears to be highly questionable at it is impossible to do the proper research on the shidduch being redt if the date is occurring virtually immediately after it is redt.

One of the primary reasons boys and girls don’t meet before carefully considering the shidduch, is because we don’t want them to become infatuated to the point it’ll be difficult or impossible to break it off before background information indicating an hashkafic or other incompatibility becomes known. Parents and the boys and girls cannot rely on the shadchan to find or even know of all incompatibilities. Especially on such a short time frame.

    1. If money being a factor is a correct approach, does this inhibit the marriage prospects of aniyim (the poor) in Klal Yisroel?

    2. From a personal perspective would you reject a shidduch for yourself or your children, or consider it a big minus when considering the shidduch, if the potential shidduch candidate is poor?

    3. Do you believe that it is appropriate to specifically seek a shidduch with someone from a wealthy or upper-middle class family?

DY, TLIK also asserts above that the Cherem is not a change of Halacha, but rather a gezeira binding upon certain Jewish kehilos as I stated, and yet you don’t get all bent of shape from his comment. You didn’t answer several of my pointed questions above, are you ashamed? Are Teimanim and Sephardim misogynists in your eyes? Your approach to this isn’t based on Jewish values but rather based on Western values where you highlight Western thought that artificially intersects with some Jewish thought.

Today is the yahrzeit of the famous Ger Tzedek, Avrohom ben Avrohom, hy”d.

When Rav Avrohom was taken to be burned al kiddush Hashem for converting to Judaism, he requested from those who came to kill him that they honor his one last request as has been customary throughout the ages before killing someone.

They agreed. He asked to be taken to the Vilna Gaon. They brought him to the Gaon and he asked the Gaon the following question: “We know the rule of ‘Zerizim makdimim l’mitzvos – One should perform mitzvos with alacrity.’ According to that dictum I should be running to fulfill this mitzvah of dying al kiddush Hashem. On the other hand, the quicker I run, the quicker I will hasten my death and one must not hasten one’s death. What should I do? Run quickly or not?”

The Gaon wanted to answer his question but before he had a chance the soldiers hustled Rav Avrohom away. The Gaon rushed to the window and shouted after him, “Reb Avrohom, quicker!” Rav Avrohom began to walk quickly…
