The Rally occured on April 22, 2002, that was attended.
No matter what the cause, its definatly Chilul Shabbos to appear at a rally of some sort (Minimum Ovda D’Chol). They just didnt march, they appeared on the Dais.
January 22, 2013 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927979zahavasdadParticipantLets not forget appearing ON SHABBOS On the DIAS (They did not speak) at a Pro-Palestian Rally In Washington DC
January 22, 2013 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927978zahavasdadParticipantHow about meeting MANY Rashas in Iran at a Holocaust Denial conference
January 22, 2013 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927975zahavasdadParticipantDaasYochid: What did those guys calling themselves NK today (who actually have no right to the name) do that you refer to them as reshoim? I agree with your wacko description, but the other term requires specific defined activities.
Does going to Iran and meet with Ahmadinejad count?
January 22, 2013 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm in reply to: Racism and Chinuch: What do we teach our children about diversity? #929174zahavasdadParticipantgavra_at_work: As someone who learned in R’ Bender’s yeshiva, I can attest to that! I well remember on my first night there (for dormitory orientation), R’ Bender spoke about the security guards who were there for our protection. Many of them were black. He said that if he ever heard anyone saying anything racist about them, there would be immediate consequences, even if it wasn’t said in front of them. He said if he ever heard someone say the “N” word about them, it would mean an immediate expulsion, no questions asked.

January 22, 2013 2:26 pm at 2:26 pm in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927577zahavasdadParticipantThe Jewish beis din was deputized to enforce the sheva mitzvos bnei noach. Clearly, we care, as we should.
There is no jewish Bais din authorized to enforced laws in the US
January 22, 2013 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm in reply to: Racism and Chinuch: What do we teach our children about diversity? #929169zahavasdadParticipantThe civil rights movement greatly helped jews.
Prior to the 1960’s there was much anti-semitism in the US. Jews were not allowed to live and go many places and religious liberty was not really tolerated.
After the civil rights movement , it became ok and differences were accepted. The laws not only prevented discrimation against race, but also creed. Laws were passed to mandate early friday leaving without penalty. Laws were passed that one could take off Yom Tov. Laws were passed that jews could get any job they wanted (Hollywood was mostly Jewish because that was one of the few jobs jews could get)

However you said it was Assur to vote according to all Gedolim.
If you had said my rebbe forbids it, that is another issue
January 21, 2013 11:29 pm at 11:29 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927964zahavasdadParticipantSince it seems that UTJ rarely if ever gets more than 6 seats even with the increasing Charedi population, I strongly suspect that many charedim will vote for Likud, HaBayit Hayudi or Otzma. At 6 seats they would be 5% of the voting population which I dont think they are, I belive the number to be higher
January 21, 2013 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927960zahavasdadParticipantSo how do you reconcile that Rav Kanivesky said one should vote in THIS election.
January 21, 2013 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927563zahavasdadParticipantIf Christine Quinn becomes mayor, Should the communmity become hostile towards her?
We will likley need her support on many issues and acting hostile will not get you what you want or even worse, direct obstuction from her.
January 21, 2013 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927952zahavasdadParticipantJust because you’re drunk (Shikur Ferd) doesn’t mean you can lie!
Only one?!?! Let’s see. The original Satmar Rebbe zt’l. The next one zt’l. And the two nowadays. All the Poiskim in Satmar communities.
The Brisker Rov zt’l and all his children – most of them Gedolim.
All the Rabbonim from the Eidah Charedis, from previous generations and now.
I guess Rav Kanivesky isnt really a Charedi Rav
January 21, 2013 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927948zahavasdadParticipantIt’s Ossur to vote in Israeli elections! Period. End of story.
Rav Kanivesky says to vote for Gimmel
January 21, 2013 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927946zahavasdadParticipantCorrection the highest anyone ever got was in 1969 when Golda Meir’s Alignment party (Labor) got 46% of the vote and 56 seats
January 21, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927945zahavasdadParticipantNo party every got 50% of the vote, The highest ever was about 36% Mapai (Ben Gurions Party predcessor to modern day Labor)
January 21, 2013 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927944zahavasdadParticipantThe elections in Israel are different than american. Israel is a Parlimentary proportional representation
In the us congress is divided into districts and you vote for individual house members
In Israel you vote for a party and the perctage of the vote that party gets is how many seats
There are 120 seats in the Kenesset, so if Likud get 33% of the vote they get 40 seats. There is a cutoff of about 3%, if you get less , you get none.
UTJ getting 6 seats means they got 5% of the vote
January 21, 2013 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm in reply to: what chassidic movements don't require you to grow a beard? #921401zahavasdadParticipantThe yeshiva itself produces smichas, I say it takes a long time to get semicha from there, because it does. I dont know exactly how long. I am fairly certain though its longer than YU which takes 4 years to get it.
IMO there is nothing wrong with holding back semicha except to those who really deserve it.
January 21, 2013 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm in reply to: what chassidic movements don't require you to grow a beard? #921397zahavasdadParticipantI know it takes a real long time to get Simchas from them, I know people who got it
January 21, 2013 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm in reply to: what chassidic movements don't require you to grow a beard? #921395zahavasdadParticipantI have friends who went to Chofetz Chaim and they told me this. (I know they arent Chassidish)
They said that Chofetz Chaim feels that a beard is something special meant for more learned people
Oh, I wasn’t accusing you of making it up. I just thought you’d want to know that your friends are not correct. You can believe me–I was there for a very long time, and got smicha from them (which takes a really really long time).
zahavasdadParticipantThe reason there is no draft in the US is not what you think, this is the reason
In the 60’s there was massive anti-war protests in the US, Nixon felt most of the protests was not really anti-war or anti-american, but really anti-draft. Middle Class young people were being forced to go to a war they did not want to go to and would protest.
By making the army all volunteer, only those who really wanted to serve would serve. People generally only protest when it affects them directly . They might burn their own draft card and risk getting arrested, but they are less likely to risk protesting and getting arrested for someone else.
It took about 4 years until Nixon was able to get rid of the draft
January 21, 2013 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm in reply to: what chassidic movements don't require you to grow a beard? #921391zahavasdadParticipantThe Modern Day Chofetz Chaim Yeshiva FORBIDS beards until I think you are a Rav or a certain age, they do not allow Bochrim to have one
I don’t think that’s true. And I have semicha from them. (also, they aren’t chassidish)
zahavasdadParticipantI got the Phone call, Thats even worse than reading it in the newspaper
January 21, 2013 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927936zahavasdadParticipantI am hope that Otzma Be-Yisroel and Bayit Yehuidi will do very well.
Hopefully 3-4 seas for Otzma and 16-17 for Bayit Yehudi
zahavasdadParticipantWhen something gets too hard people will give up.
You cant make something so hard it becomes impossible
zahavasdadParticipantMany people here feel its ok to give Chizuk to those somewhat to left on various issues, we can debate these things
But it seems when the roles are revered and some think some one the right need Chizuk, they are above Chizuk.
I think is wrong when dont by a Catholic Priest, when Done by an advisor of NCSY , a Professor at YU or a Satmar .
Wrong is Wrong. Being on the inside some might not see it this way granted, but they must be taught to understand
zahavasdadParticipantSo what do you think the agenda of Rav Horowitz is. He is not a “failed blogger” and nobody questions that he is doing things L’Shem shamayim.
I belive in Chemo Therapy, yeah it hurts to be taking those drugs, it makes you sick and throw up, but in the end you will get better because of it
zahavasdadParticipantBack in the day during the Ghettos , if one talked indirectly it didnt really matter because they only ones hearing it understood what was meant. Outsiders really werent paying attention.
Today everyone is paying attention and mostly those who will not understand what is being said, there are plenty more than willing to pounce on every word and twist the meaning to whatever you want and you can broadcast it to the world
zahavasdadParticipantAlmost everyday here , there are posts about Off The Dereach and posts about Chumras.
Has anyone ever considered maybe they are related.
Perhaps If you push someone too hard with a chumra, they will snap and go OTD.
zahavasdadParticipantDY
I think the community thinks if he is guilty its an indictment on the community, which most outsiders do not.
Most outsiders realizes that such a person is not an indictment on the community but an indictment on the person.
Satmar thinks this was a trial on the Satmar community, when the outside thinks it was a trial on Webberman the individual.
(Outsiders did not like that money was raised for his defense and it seemed he got better treatment than the victims- but that is a seperate issue)
Such individuals exist in all communities and when they are discovered its best to remove them and the community is better for it.
January 21, 2013 3:58 am at 3:58 am in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927551zahavasdadParticipantFYI
Hurricane Sandy actually direct hit NJ not NY. Only the edges hit NY.
It make landfall around Atlantic City.
zahavasdadParticipantSince the community was unwilling or unable to punish this individual, the secular courts are the only recourse left.
January 20, 2013 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927933zahavasdadParticipantI have a friend in israel who told me about the math Ban ad by Gimmel and I did not belive it.
He then e-mailed me a fasimile of the ad and then snail-mailed me the actual flyer. I have the actual flyer in my possession and no it isnt a failed fantasy. I saw the blog entry after I got the flyer and its 100% true.
January 20, 2013 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm in reply to: Israeli Elections 2013 – Let's Talk Politics #927928zahavasdadParticipantOne of the Charedi parties (Gimmel) has put out an ad banning Euclidian Geometru saying thats its terrible for Yeshiva boys to learn Euclidian Geometry instead of Mishnah.
Considering that one of the Students of the Vilna Gaon put out a sefer on Euclidian Geometry, During his lifetime (The Vilna Gaon’s Lifetime)
zahavasdadParticipantThe victim from his sins wasnt the only victim, more and more are coming out
zahavasdadParticipantBH enough Unemployed Homeless Drunks could perform the Mitzvah of Shofet
zahavasdadParticipantNot every juror wants “out” some work for employers who will pay all their pay when on Juror duty (Like City Workers) and The trial only lasted a few weeks, its wasnt like a 6 month trial where they actually let you off
zahavasdadParticipant12 jurors whose qaulifications to judge someones life is their being unemployed or homeless or drunks
And where do you have even one shread of evidence of this
zahavasdadParticipantAfter the Mumbai terrorist attack the Holtzbergs if you remember got a huge state funeral in Israel. There was massive sympahy for the surving son (and the other son who lived in Israel) and the state promised to take care of them
The Holtzbergs were not the only victims of the attack, there was a Satmar mashgiach who was staying at the Chabad house because he was on some supervision. He did not get a state funeral and the death went widely reported.
Chiloni Israelis do appreciate very much the chessed of Chabad, The appreciate when they go abroad the Chabad houses are a welcoming site, the appreciate that Chabadnics will deliver Latkes to the Soldiers in Lebanon or will Blow Shofar for a loney Solider in the Negev.
While they might be be Chabadnicks, the do appreciate all the chessed they do.
zahavasdadParticipantThe proper term is BD”E
She was Born Pauline Esther Friedman
January 17, 2013 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm in reply to: Mice vs. Large Bugs, a question for the girls #920781zahavasdadParticipantMice and Rats Carry diseases, The Black Plague was caused by a Flea that lived on Rats and killed 40% of the Worlds populaion in the Justinian Plague and 75% of the European population in 15th Century
zahavasdadParticipantUnless we pass a law that they can’t leave and have to keep the torah.
🙂
That is possible then people will be forced to smuggle out of the country if they want to leave
zahavasdadParticipantCan someone help me find that article within the past year here on YWN about the Israeli who was worried about Chareidim taking over the country and forcing the Chilonim into the diaspora?
The birthrate of Charedim is much higher than Chilonin and in about 50 years they will become the majority of the voting population
As majority you can pass any law you wish including Torah Tax(Taxes to pay for yeshiva study) Malkos for disobeying Yom Tov, Skliah for breaking Shabbos etc.
The Chilonim at that time can either decide to obey these laws and live within them or leave the country
zahavasdadParticipantmogold
Items that I consider greater wrong doings are not allowed to be quoted, This was on the YWN website.
zahavasdadParticipantHanoch Teller is considered a reliable source, If He wrote it, Ill believe it
zahavasdadParticipantIf this is what you are talking about
Its wrong plain and simple and should be prosecued to the full extent of the law
zahavasdadParticipantI did not see any article about fraudlent Simcha, I am sure it was there, Fake Simcha is not a new thing. Hebrew Union gives it all the time, should I comment on that too that I think its fake.
I dont read every aricle nor do I read every thread
zahavasdadParticipantGAW
Most people I know in Lakewood do not work (The wives do work and some even commute to Brooklyn) and they joke how they are a “Programmer”
zahavasdadParticipantUltimataely this debate wont matter anyway.
The Charedi population has a much higher birth rate than everyone else and shortly they will be the majority of the population in Israel (no more than 50 years from now) and either they will go to the Army and fight or they will become citizens of Palestine
zahavasdadParticipantThe American government, like most civilized societies, exempts people learning in yeshiva to be a rabbi from the draft
So the US draft board would draft people and suddenly notice that almost everyone in a place called Lakewood, NJ is studying to be a Rabbi
zahavasdadParticipantWhat did the Charedi population in the US do when there was a draft?
