Egypt-Israel Pipeline Targeted Again

The gas pipeline running from Sinai to Israel was targeted once again, compelling its shutdown. The latest act of sabotage is the seventh attack this year, occurring 18-20 miles from el-Arish. The pumping only resumed in the end of October following the last act of sabotage.

Foreign media reports indicate the explosives were detonated from a distance.

While the 20-year natural gas agreement was signed with Israel by former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, many Egyptians are not pleased over it, insisting the price being charged to Israel is too low, while others simply no longer want to deal with Israel and oppose Egypt selling natural gas to Israel at any price.

Egyptian officials have promised to significantly step up security for the pipeline but it appears this is not yet the case.
