White House: ISIL’s ‘Barbarity Knows No Bounds’

isisThe United States is condemning the purported killing of 21 Egyptians by militants in Libya affiliated with the Islamic State group as “despicable” and “cowardly.”

White House press secretary Josh Earnest adds in a statement Sunday that the group’s barbarity “knows no bounds.”

Earnest says the killings underscore the need for a political resolution to the conflict in Libya. He says the situation in Libya only benefits terrorist groups, and he called on the Libyan people to unite in opposition to terrorism.

Also Sunday, Secretary of State John Kerry called Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. He offered his condolences on behalf of the American people and strongly condemned the killings. Kerry and the foreign minister agreed to keep in close touch as Egyptians deliberated on a response, according to a release from the State Department.

Video purporting to show the mass beheading of Coptic Christian hostages was released Sunday by IS.

The Associated Press could not independently verify the video. But the Egyptian government and the Coptic Church, which is based in Egypt, have said the video is authentic.

  1. And the Democrats want to do what about it? It should be noted that all western powers thoroughly condemned the German anti-Jewish laws in the 1930. They made it clear they didn’t approve.
Disapproval unless combined with military force is a bad joke.

  2. I can just imagine Isis sitting in their (high tech) tents listening to Obama calling them “despicable” and “cowardly”. They probably laugh and take another sip of Turkish coffee.
Hello Mr. President you must do something not only talk. Talk is cheap.

  3. This is just a case of bad folks, killing other folks. Workplace violence is not nice.
It is time for diplomatic talks
and discussions about peaceful coexistence. Folks ought not behead other folks. The unkind ones deserve a not nice lecture

  4. akuperma says: “… all western powers thoroughly condemned the German anti-Jewish laws in the 1930.” Really? Can you bring a source for your statement? All the governments that came to power in the 1930’s except for Czechoslovakia enacted anti-Jewish laws. No one challenged or protested Germany’s anti-Jewish stance. The Jews were made the scapegoat for the economic, social, and moral bankruptcy that resulted from WWI.

  5. Dovid is wrong. France did not enact anti-Jewish laws in the 1930s, and in fact elected a Jewish Prime Minister in 1936. Not only did Ireland not enact any anti-Jewish laws, it enacted a Constitution in 1937 that singled out its small Jewish community for protection. In fact most countries in Northern and Western Europe took no anti-Semitic actions until the Nazis occupied them.
