Former PA (Palestine Authority) senior negotiator, Dr. Saeb Erekat, announced the PA is planning to file charges of war crimes against Israel in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Erekat refers once again to the “Settlements in the West Bank”, meaning the yishuvim throughout Yehuda and Shomron, which the international community prefers to label the “West Bank” of the Jordan River.
Erekat added in his statements the decision to move ahead on the International Court front was approved by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and other senior PA officials. They explain the opening of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem and the deaths of so many Gazans in border clashes were the straw that broke the camel’s back, compelling them to take their case to the international forum.
With both Israel and the White House calling on the PA to renew talks to reach a peace agreement, it would appear the PA’s move to the International Court will further distance any chance at a sustainable peace between Israel and the PA.
