BREAKING: Olmert Announces he Will Step Down Following Primaries

olmert b.jpg8:25PM IL: Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has announced that following the September primaries in his Kadima Party, he will step down from office.

Mr. Olmert stated that once a new party leader is elected in the September 17th primary election, he will resign from office.

He also stated he does not plan to see reelection and as such, he will not compete in the party leadership race.

It is interesting to note, that just one hour ago, YWN reported a story headlined “Olmert Continues Stall Tactics” (YWN Israel News Section). Below are excerpts of that article:

Police report that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert continues to ignore their most recent request to set aside time for another questioning session.

On Friday, he will be questioned ‘under warning’ for a fourth time, but the meeting was only arranged after police wrote the prime minister’s legal team three times. Not seeking to waste time, police already tried to set aside a date for a fifth session, but this has still gone unanswered.

Police are hopeful that Friday’s session will be the last regarding the Olmert Tours and Talansky cash envelope investigations, despite the fact Olmert has only blocked two hours for questioning when police requested significantly longer. That leaves investigations into the prime minister’s real estate affairs.

Police add that they do have solid evidence, such a documents signed by Olmert attesting he knew that his travel tickets abroad were being billed to numerous organizations, resulting in his profiting over $100,000.

NOTE: Being questioned ‘under warning’ signifies police are confident that a criminal indictment will follow.

  1. joshqueens,

I too am relieved that this low-life is resigning. However we must remember that lev melachim byad Hashem. The key to security is not in getting the right PM into office (although we should try to) but to daven and say tehillim.

When Sharon was elected, the right wing rejoiced. One of their own was in charge and he wouldn’t follow down the delusional path of oslo. Yet he was the one who destroyed gush katif, created Hamastan in gaza, and became more of a peacenik than anyone from the left.

    Hashem is obviously in control.

  2. Good Riddance !!!! However before anyone rejoices, with Israel track record for selecting PM …. chance are they are going to elect another appeaser

  3. So now he is PLANNING to step down. When? the sooner the better.Who will replace this character?
This is happening during the 9 days?
So O’bama’s political gestures towards Israel will now mean nothing

  4. Unfortunately the next clowns throwing the name in the ring aren’t any better. Tzipi livni..washed up Ehud Barak…? I think they should have a national election. It’s time for new blood to enter office someone that has the guts to stand up to those dirty towel heads, someone that has a fire in his belly. Enough of this politics as usual.

  5. the only way the frum parties could join is if Mizrachi would respect the authority of the charedi rabbanim, and that ain’t gonna happen so fast.

Read “In Their Shadow” by Rabbi Lorincz…

  6. איזהו חכם המכיר את מקומו
Olmert finally figured it out that he doesn’t belong at the head as prine minister.
