☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
I am not referring to wealth, rather admission policies.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy can’t the “elite” be those who pay in full
You mean like MO?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFlatbusher, I said if, and my point was your last sentence. Seminaries are geared towards everyone, even if they do offer teaching courses.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAh, so:
Easiest way to fix the shidduch crisis would be for average or short girls to stop going to seminary.
FTFY
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhich shidduch crisis?
February 17, 2016 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm in reply to: Inviting other young couples over for a seuda #1170726☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFTFY = fixed that for you.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThis is gavra l’shitaso (hamut’ah) that yeshiva/BY is a luxury.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo if my daughters’ seminary has computer courses, does that mean it is geared towards computer programming?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt stands for “laugh out loud, what?”.
In this context, it means that seminaries are marketed to all girls, regardless of career intentions.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOld man, take a look at the Orchos Shabbos. The poskim seemed to very aware of the facts, but the absorbency of the lenses makes them comparable to leather (at least) and although we don’t say shriyaso zehu kibuso on leather, cleaning agents are still assur.
The lenses were never in need of repair, only maintenance, so there is no tikun mana.
Dnetsk, So basically no one knows what issur they are discussing here
Melabain/Kibus
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, if done properly.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOld man, are you aware that contact lenses absorb large amounts of water?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI have always understood the situation to be that were only worried about bugs that are visible to the human eye
He said difficult to see, not impossible.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAren’t soft contact lenses softer than dishes?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPos’tiv.
February 16, 2016 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157177☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe money going to private schools is mandated. If they’re going to change the law, they might as well just fix the flawed funding formula.
It’s illegal to raise taxes more than a certain amount, so they can’t force a tax increase, again, unless they change the law.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe chosson had promised the kallah her own slave. When he turned out to be a midget, she went to the dayan. He paskened that even though, technically, he fulfilled his obligation, it was a little bitty eved.

February 15, 2016 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm in reply to: Can folks who celebrate Valentine's Day be counted for a minyan? #1139364☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAre people who observe Easter bunnies?
Are people who observe Lent bankers?
Are people who observe Xmas ex’s?
February 15, 2016 2:30 pm at 2:30 pm in reply to: How do you address people of the opposite sex? #1138089☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTarud b’umnaso
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNu… What is the answer you had in mind?
February 15, 2016 2:46 am at 2:46 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157169☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs that relevant to what we were discussing?
February 15, 2016 2:08 am at 2:08 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157167☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFirst you said: When East Ramapo takes in more in government aid than it pays in Taxes, its not their money.
Now, you’re saying that they’re not supposed to benefit from the money they pay, regardless of how much?
February 15, 2016 1:57 am at 1:57 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157165☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOkay, so I googled those numbers, and what it’s saying is that E. Ramapo received over $50 million in aid. On its own, that number doesn’t tell us anything.
February 15, 2016 1:52 am at 1:52 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157162☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWithout table formatting, I can’t tell what it says.
Whatever the numbers in aid, you need to show taxes paid for it to have any meaningful, and you need to break it down by amounts paid and received by the private school community.
February 15, 2016 1:42 am at 1:42 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157160☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBut you don’t know how much money comes out of East Ramapo (or its private school community) in taxes, or how much state money it receives.
February 15, 2016 1:30 am at 1:30 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157158☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo pure conjecture on both of your parts, without any numbers.
February 15, 2016 1:16 am at 1:16 am in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157155☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhere do either of you get your information from?
February 15, 2016 12:36 am at 12:36 am in reply to: How do you address people of the opposite sex? #1138074☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat was my way of expressing exasperation, the same way you did over there. I just though the cross reference was cute.
February 15, 2016 12:09 am at 12:09 am in reply to: Why Doesn't YWN And Aish Report The Root Behind Jihad Terrorist Attacks #1137341☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGiven the actions of Mohammed, it’s pretty easy to think they’re wrong.
That’s silly. They’re all wrong.
February 14, 2016 11:31 pm at 11:31 pm in reply to: How do you address people of the opposite sex? #1138070☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhats the difference between this and a chat room?
February 14, 2016 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm in reply to: How do you address people of the opposite sex? #1138067☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh, for heaven’s sake.
You are fully aware that neither the OP nor subsequent posters were talking about a spouse (or certain other relatives).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLefty, correct, so nobody will buy. Perfect.
RV, should I be surprised that a poster whose account is an hour old is so familiar with the CR?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGood, now I’m not worried, because b’nei Torah wouldn’t buy from you, so you won’t be machshil anyone.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPersonally, I would not purchase stam written by someone who learned from YouTube.
February 14, 2016 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm in reply to: Can folks who celebrate Valentine's Day be counted for a minyan? #1139345☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWaiting for Sam to opine whether it’s chukas akum.
February 14, 2016 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm in reply to: Inviting other young couples over for a seuda #1170696☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m not sure how much a large group changes things, but I agree with flatbusher that there is an issue here, and particularly if it’s done often.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNow answer using a different screen name.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere’s a long discussion about soft lenses in ????? ??? ??? ?”?, ???? ?”? and ‘?, and in the ‘?????? ????, ??? ?.
Not only is it not a chassid shoteh question, he quotes R’ Elyashiv, R’ Vosner, and yl”t R’ Karelitz as all assering using cleaning solution.
Plain sterile water or saline solution, with no added cleaning agent, is okay if the lenses were clean before Shabbos.
??”? ??? ?”? ?’ ?”? allows soaking soft lenses to prevent them from getting ruined, and doesn’t mention cleaning solution.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOr perhaps there’s a concern for melaben on the lenses which are permeable.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe issue is with someone who is not a pure lefty. The kesiva of an ambidextrous sofer should be done with the right hand l’chatchilah.
http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=14170&st=&pgnum=82&hilite=
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m not forgetting it, I just think the effect is probably negligible. Even if we assume that the 19 year olds who are left over are the “financially challenged” ones (which I actually don’t think is true for the most part), by the time they’re 21, they should have money put away, plus more earning power, giving them an advantage over the 19 year old who is in the same position as she was.
You are also just finding another contributing factor to age gap. Would you agree that if the standard age for boys became 21, the problem would mostly be solved?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantApushatayid, that’s ridiculous. The only thing that would change is which girls get married, not how many in relation to how many boys.
You are aware that there are precisely as many married men as there are married women, aren’t you?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy friend taynas that Hillel’s korech was lamb shwarma.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou seemed to be unaware. Despite your now recognizing it as a problem which affects girls’ ability to get married more than boys, you blame it on a something which affects both equally.
Maybe squeezing girls (and their parents) is a huge problem on its own, even a crisis, but it’s got little if anything to do with there being more unmarried girls than boys.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAt least you’re an equal opportunity offender.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY: It is certainly part of the problem.
That depends what you think the problem is.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAsk around. How many currently in the U.S. are opposed to it? How many have a public position (either way) on it? Does Rav Miller count in your book? Isn’t the new position just announced by the Litvish gedolim suggest there is movement in this direction?
In other words, none.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIsn’t that exactly the problem with the shidduch crisis? That unless the Tatty is willing (able) to pay the bills the daughter can’t find a shidduch???
No.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRav Miller suggested it. Other Litvish gedolim (especially in EY) are also in favor of it.
Any currently in the U.S. recommending it?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant17-19 is more reasonable for our dor
So why aren’t any roshei yeshiva suggesting it?
Litvish boys are made up of different DNA from other boys?
Different culture. This cannot be ignored.
In the IDF you have 19 year olds making life and death decisions
My 3 year old knows how to put his shirt on. Does that mean he’s ready to get married? You can’t compare one skill set to another.
And went straight to work, which is DY’s point.
That’s closely related to one of my points, which hasn’t been answered.
