when in fact he should not be considered Jewish simply because he is on a technical level
Not sure why the “technical level”, i.e. halachah, isn’t important to you.
On a technical level, Im sure there have already been US presidents who are Jewish as well- we just don’t know they were Jewish.
I’m sure not, because halachah does not assume someone to be Jewish without a chazakah.
As an aside, no president, AFAIK, has ever claimed to be an atheist, so my point would still stand.

February 24, 2016 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm in reply to: If Bernie Sanders is Jewish, I'm a Christmas Tree #1139577☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI care because I think it would be a big chillul Hashem if the the first atheist president were Jewish.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIs that how eid echod neeman b’heteira works?
FTFY
I don’t think you need to be yitayningwut to not worry about block oil.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOr the block oil. You are not actually putting it into your food, and it’s essentially a kosher item.
February 24, 2016 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm in reply to: If Bernie Sanders is Jewish, I'm a Christmas Tree #1139572☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThose ornaments hanging on you are very nice.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat would I reseason it with? The block oil doesn’t have a hechsher, and there’s no eid echod.
Mineral oil.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant1) I can’t imagine they wouldn’t add pagum chemicals to prevent the pigs’ oil from stinking worse than a cow’s stomach.
2) Even l’shitascha hat’uyah, apushatayid’s eitzah would work.
3) I hope your stomach is stronger than a cow’s.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantProbably ground up lobster shells.
So like the oil in cutting boards, it’s nosein ta’am lifgam.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think a better way of saying what you’re saying is that there’s a very strong rov?
No, I think the way I said it is fine. I don’t think your case of the meat sack is a rov either.
Are lobster shells food?
February 24, 2016 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm in reply to: Should Yeshiva's (all of them) say Mishberach for Israel soldiers on Shabbos? #1139720☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI personally find it to be a lack of Hakoras Hatov in the heigest degree when klall Yisroel -and that includes the Yeshivishe velt in Israel and Golus- refrain in saying on Shabbos the Prayer for Hatzolah.
After all, in Hatzolah are not just non-yeshivish or chassidish members, but yeshivish and chassidish as well with all kinds of Hashkafos. Is this not a lack of Hakaras Hatov to our Hatzolah members who give their time and effort every day even giving up their Shabbos and Yom Tov to protect every Yid no matter where or who he is from Meah Shearim to Tel Aviv to Monroe to Teaneck? Isn’t this a Hillul Hashem on the part of the Yeshivish community who 100 years ago said a prayer every Shabbos to every anti-semitic Tzar and tyrant and now when we have a volunteer ambulance service of our own we cannot ‘fargin’ a prayer that calls for Hashem to protect our Jewish EMT? I ask you, isn’t it about time we wake and realize we are only shooting ourselves in the foot, literally, by not beseeching Hashem to protect us? Anyone?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRefuah sheleimah. I will bl’n add his name to the added yehi ratzon in Refoeinu.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSo you think there’s a rov that paskens the cutting board in front of you was finished with mineral oil?
I think you would first need to establish that animal fats are ever used in order to even need a rov.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant?????? ????? ?? ???????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMederma
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIn other words, yes, it’s a troll post.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf you’re single, the Mir bochur in case you end up marrying him.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSorry, flatbusher, her tone was fine. On the anonymous internet (which you are on, so if you think it’s wrong, you shouldn’t be here either, and if you think it’s okay, it’s okay for her) nobody knows how old you are, and nobody deserves more or less respect than anyone else.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWritersoul, you don’t think that if on some random day you walked outside wearing a cowgirl outfit or a pink wig it would draw attention?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBecome a mohel.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantShuli, perhaps that’s true.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh my gosh, I agree with Joe.
Not to worry, you don’t.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe fact that is doesn’t seem logical is not the issue.
It is an issue to me.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWho is eligible to vote and who is eligible to run are two different questions.
I’m not saying that you are not correct legally, I just think it’s silly to have different standards, and that the issue should be considered ripe, because the states should definitely know whether a candidate will ultimately be eligible for the presidency to determine if he should be on the ballot.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThey should get their acts together. It makes no sense for states to have different standards than each other or than the federal government. If he is ineligible, it would be dumb for any state to put him on the ballot. If he is eligible, he should be able to appear on all state ballots.
His eligibility is relevant right now to determine whether he should be on the state ballots. Therefore, the federal courts should consider it ripe.

☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant???? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ???? ?????, ??? ????? ??? ???? ??? ?????? ???? ?????

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, just that the bein Adam l’chaveiro thread reminded me of this.

February 19, 2016 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140160☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantB”H, Avram and popa share gavra’s chumra. Mi k’amcho Yisroel.
February 19, 2016 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140151☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGavra’s post was an example of a chumra in bein adam l’chaveiro.
He was going to write something which was probably benign, but deleted it because there was a slight chance that someone would take offense, so he was machmir.
February 19, 2016 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm in reply to: Orthodox hats for Shabbos — what do you wear? #1151983☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s a Taz, which applies to today’s hats, which are not what the Mechaber was referring to.
February 19, 2016 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm in reply to: Orthodox hats for Shabbos — what do you wear? #1151980☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt probably wasn’t. She probably wore a man’s hat; she was notorious for wearing men’s clothing.
The trilby, which is pretty much the same hat with a narrower brim, was around before. The name fedora was from her role, but the hat pretty much existed before.
By the time Jews wore it with the name fedora, it had already become a popular men’s hat.
It’s not a symbol of holiness at all, it’s a hat, for crying out loud.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, I don’t agree. There is little or no demand (v’ho raya, it doesn’t exist).
February 19, 2016 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140132☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCare to give examples?
February 19, 2016 1:24 pm at 1:24 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140127☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant29, it was a good diyuk. How many non chareidim do you know who care about looking frum?
February 19, 2016 12:22 pm at 12:22 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140123☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, one chumra in bein adam l’chaveiro would be to not start a thread designed to malign a group of Yidden and hide behind “tochacha” when there’s zero chance of it being productive.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’d endure 4 years of a joke as president
We will have already endured 8…
February 19, 2016 12:34 am at 12:34 am in reply to: Orthodox hats for Shabbos — what do you wear? #1151962☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantClassic fedora. The one charliehall says is beged isha.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat’s the frum population in Lakewood?
There are wealthy people in Lakewood, and even not wealthy people occasionally splurge. With a large population, you can’t really say that a nut bar (uch’domeh) shows that the overall character is one of decadence and wealth.
February 18, 2016 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm in reply to: How about being machmir on ben adam l'chaveiro? #1140118☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat about chumrot regarding honesty in monetary matters?
What about them?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI would imagine there is a nice percentage of guys now in bais medrash who would like to be one of those guys, but are under pressure to learn instead.
Where’s that pressure from? If from the (seminary brainwashed) girls, were going in circles.
Either way, if those guys are in the Bais Medrash (which I agree to), that’s where the girls should look for them.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat type of girl do you think is generally looking for that guy?
The Shopping613 type.
But more importantly, what type of girl do you think the guys think is generally looking for that type of guy?
The same type as his long term learner friends.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWait, so are you agreeing or disagreeing with me that there aren’t many such guys?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you, popa and flatbusher, really think if a guy was in school or working and taking his learning seriously he would have a hard time with shidduchim? It seems, at least from the CR, that there are an awful lot of girls looking for such a shidduch…
Is that not a reflection of real life?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSadly, there is a shortage of guys who do work and are serious about learning
So, when the seminaries try to convince girls that they must marry a guy learning in kollel or risk not having a Torahdik home, they’re not necessarily wrong.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI have not heard of either.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWho holds that way and why?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRight. Like MO.
The problem is that those parents want their kids in the same class as the kids from klei kodesh families with no internet (and frankly, I don’t blame them for that), otherwise, they would have done what you suggest.
