    DaaYochid,

Excellent point, it is not at all satisfactory.

Seemingly, we are meant to live a life lacking in understanding.

    DaasYochid,

Pig is treif because the Torah says pig is treif. What’s not to understand?

How can you say we don’t assume we understand anything 100%?

We understand with certainty that Jews were taken out of Egypt by Hashem. We understand with certainty Hashem rested on Shabbos, and instructed us to do likewise. We understand with certainty pig is treif.

    Gavra,

Sorry, I fail to see the relevance even if your thoughts are 100% accurate. Not trying to put you down, I simply don’t understand what you are getting at.

Why should we “accept our limitations in understanding” in some parts of the Torah, but assume we have all the answers when it comes to other parts?

Maybe we don’t understand the parts we are certain to have said understanding.

    DY,

Perhaps you can tell that my response was not allowed through moderation, understandably.

But suffice to say your explanation is insufficient. I would gladly concede to you that the word eved does not equate to United States antebellum style slavery, though.

    Zev7,

I am in the same boat. When I tell the person offering answers that said answers were insufficient, I was rebuffed as having something wrong with me, or that I am lacking. There are integral parts of life that need answering and so far, unfortunately, I have yet to come across someone with whom I can really discuss the “big” topics (I’ve only been able to discuss with contemporaries, ie friends, never superiors, ie rebbes/mechanchim/parents, without being rebuffed).

    Catch yourself,

How can you say, “perhaps never” when there are examples of individuals on this very thread that have been ostracized for questions that they have asked?

Why don’t we protest outside Red Lobster and all restaurants that serve shellfish? It is an abomination as well (Vayikra 11:9).

    Joseph,

At an MO school, most rebbes/morahs are only there from davening in the morning until the end of limudei kodesh(approximately noon or 1PM). These folks can expect to make 15k-25k, depending on the individual’s credentials/education and the school itself.

There are some Judaic studies teachers that stick around all day, but they tend to have more than one role in the school (e.g. a Israel yeshiva guidance counselor). These people should expect to make in the 40k-50k range, but also tend to be more modern themselves, as they have a role in which student interaction and student relatabilty become vital characteristics. There have been frummies in these roles as well, though.

We combat it by pointing out the foolishness in their behavior. Once that happens, even the members of the group will begin to dissent. That is what the internet is for.

I heard about this rumor, so I asked my Korean classmates (I had 2 at the time). One said that she may have heard of it, but was certainly not familiar at all with what it was.

The other one said he had no clue what I was talking about whatsoever. He was born in South Korea and live there until he was 10.

No different than today’s malchus. You think Queen Elizabeth is special? How about baby George? They were just lucky that their great great great (…) grandfather was a ruthless warmonger know as William the Conqueror, later known as William I, king of England (Year 1066).

We hope that the people born into situations like these will be great leaders, but unfortunately for the followers it’s not always the case.

After seeing the evidence of the lack of intelligence he has to speak about certain topics, why can’t you come to grips that he may also be very misinformed about politics and the social issues he discusses?

The guy is just there for entertainment, not to discuss anything in an intelligent manner.

He has a very limited understanding of politics, but you are free to subscribe to those ignorant views and hold them as intellectual.

And have you heard his views on autism?
