“…I don’t think I would have been able to sit and learn all day in 9th grade. even now, 4 years I have a hard time sitting through all 3 sedorim.”

“…I don’t find the time i spent on secular studies “Bitul Z’man” although some of it may have been. i hope to pursue a college degree soon…”

this was said by my son.

perhaps you should logout when you are not posting, your son is killing your reputation. If you wish, have your son create his own screen name. you can email the mod of your choice with that name and that mod will share it with the other mods.

KOLLEL is the reason why i get so much tzedaka mail everyday. WHY do WE, WORKING PEOPLE, have to support kollel, its enough supporting our own families?? When someone is in kollel and there is no money he opens up a yeshiva with 10 guys. why do we need so many yeshivos??

TRUTHSHARER, you are actually a FALSESHARER because i was by 19 a long time ago, before you were probably born.

NYMOM, the way you said it, it seemed like you learned eiruvin, sorry for the assumption, mochel?

YES< i know eiruvin, and i have no problem with a private eruv, but an eruv for a city??? The gemara (if i recall corectly does’NT talk about it, and it shouldn’t be done. MOM, you learned Eruvin?? since when do they teach gemara in BY?

so… now you claim to be the worlds foremost authority on eruvin? What about all the Rabbonim in cities around the world that have approved of their respective eruv… If only they knew enough to consult with you first… go figure. YW Moderator-72

wolfish (i addressed you),i don’t either have the sefer handy but someone of authority told this, and YOU don’t have the right to challenge authority.

bein hasidorim- when people are playing with issurim d’airaisa, then i would call them mechalel shabbos because even if it was mutar to rely on this eruv, do you think it was made one of the 39 melachos (CARRYING) for no reason? it was done with a cheshbon, and now you are going and making it (supposedly) mutar to carry?? Shabbos was made as a day of rest? hetairim can be found for EVERY ONE of the 39 melachos, but l’maisa it is a day of rest??? WHY DO WE LOOK FOR LEEWAYS? (I’m not sure if my point was brought out but i have to go so, this is it for now)

    “TALK about stating the obvious”

Mod 72 what in the universe does that statement mean???

it means that it is apparent that you have a tendency to post on the fly and rarely do you let trivial little things like facts get in the way of you making your point… YW Moderator-72

I went to a top MESIVTA in brooklyn, which also happens to have a top secular studies program. I don’t find the time i spent on secular studies “Bitul Z’man” although some of it may have been. i hope to pursue a college degree soon. i know many boys who go to lakewood yeshivos which DONT have secular studies and MOST of them aren’t cut out to learn a whole day. When these boys get older and have iy’h a couple babies and there wife can no longer work and their father-in-law can no longer support, where will they get the money to support their family? What many are doing today UNFORTUNATLY is when challenged by this situation they open up a yeshiva with around ten bochurim and then they go fundraising to support it and they pull off a living from that. Is that right to all the ballei batim who then get the fundraising letters in the mail? there are enough worthy mosdos out there which ballei batim have on their lists? why do ballei batim have to get so many fundraising letters because every day a new yeshiva is opening up with five bochurim? The economy is bad enough?? TAKE THE LESSON AND GET AN NORMAL EDUCATION ATLEAST IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!

Getting back to the original topic, I personally don’t think that every 14 year old can sit and learn all day. Secular studies is a change for them. I don’t think I would have been able to sit and learn all day in 9th grade. even now, 4 years I have a hard time sitting through all 3 sedorim. I would find it easier to leave 2nd seder early and skip night seder and instead go to college.

Now, I just feel bad for those kids who aren’t cut out for learning all day, but are sent to a mesivta where there is no secular studies, and are essentially on a B”M schedule at age 14.

mdlevine, i didn’t hear his shitah on that.

and even if you don’t hold of the eruv, do YOU know the halachos, did you look into hilchos eruv, well I DID, and since Boro Park is well connected to OCEAN PARKWAY, YOU are playing with ISSUREI D”AIRAISA. This is not a matter of who is better rav. this is a matter of being mechallel the day of rest. Why does everyone have to look for loopholes to be able to carry everywhere, WHY? one of the 39 melachos is that your not allowed to carry, so WHY DO YOU CARRY? WHy don’t we make an eruv around the world???????

I AM SAYING THIS B’RABIM BECAUSE I KNOW IT IS TRUE. Anyone who uses The Flatbush or boro eruv is being MECHALEL SHABBOS for every second of it. I didn’t appoint Rav Belsky Gadol Hador. The Tzibbur did and 99.99% of the rabbanim in america DON”T know as much halacha as Rav Belsky. (and btw, rav Belsky usually goes lekula, and some are machmir, but when Rav Belsky says no YOU are playing with ISSUREI D”OIRAISA!!.
