Maybe look into the Denver Yeshiva. I don’t really know much about it, but I just know that its a smaller out of town yeshiva, I think that most of the boys dorm there, and the Rebbes have a reputation for being very warm.

I always think that outdoor pictures always come out looking much nicer. The photographer is able to pose everyone professionally like he would do in a studio, as well as get pictures that show the kid’s personality and just having fun (think hanging from tree branches, get them to build a sand castle together and get shots of them doing that when they are not looking at the camera, a picture from the back of two or three kids holding hands running on the grass towards a park or on the beach towards the ocean, etc.)

However the best time to do pictures outdoors is right before sunset when the sun is not at its strongest anymore but still there. That is when the lighting will come out the best.

I did the same thing as you, but I knew that if I would put even a few non-Jewish songs on my ipod I would just end up wanting to put on more and more and eventually get right back to where I used to be. So the middle ground that I got to was that at the beginning ever time I heard the any English music I wanted more, so I completely stopped. but now I am able to go places that are playing the music and be with people who are listening to it without wanting more and wanting it on my ipod.

I don’t know about you but for myself I didn’t find it so possible to just keep “some” of it.

I have never been to Shira, but a friend of mine who went there told me that they did have to wear shirts with collars. We went to the mall before that summer, and I remember her getting polos and some tops that had collars from areopostale. I think that most of the girls (especially in the older age groups) end up wearing mostly long black slinky skirts.

Danish123, I don’t know u personally, so I cant tell u what u are able to do. Only u know yourself well enough to make those decisions. However, I do think that you sound like a pretty strong girl, and hopefully u will make the right decisions for yourself. If you are realizing that this is hard for you, an have already tried to stop, this is probably a test that God is giving u – and He doesn’t give anyone tests that they cannot handle and pass. You can do it! I’m rooting for u!

Also, about your inspiration dyeing down, there is a 5min video on torahanytime dot com by Charlie Harary called “The Secret of Inspiration.” Hes a great speaker I really recommend that you watch it.

    danish123,

ya, I totally hear u and u def made sense. it just sounds like ur trying really hard to do the right thing, and that little yetzer hara inside u is getting real mad because you’ve succeeded for a week already. no, ur never gonna b able to avoid it completely, cuz we don’t live in that sheltered perfect world, but our job is just to try our best. God doent expect any more then that and Hes very proud of the effort ur putting in. Those friends don’t sound to sensitive rite now, and it cud b bc they subconsciously feel guilty that they arnt a strong as u r or it can just be bc they don’t realize how important this is to u. wtvr their reason is, don’t let them bring u back down. its hard now, but it will get easier. and just don’t stop forgetting how much Hashem loves u and how proud u r making Him up there!

If you have certain apple products like an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, you can get some apps that have texting and calling for free. I’m not sure of all the different apps but 2 of them are Pinger and Textfree. However you might need wifi to use them.

    Hey Revooh16!

Just wanted to let you no that I really admire you for trying to stop listening to English music. I know that it can be very hard, especially since I recently stopped myself. At first, I tried to slowly stop by taking some of that music off my iPod and adding some Jewish songs. That didn’t last very long and I went right back to listening to the English music again.

A few months later, I again decided that I only wanted to listen to Jewish music. This time however, I did not want to slide right back like I had the last time. I decided to stop cold turkey. I deleted all of my English music and got lots of Jewish music. I did not let myself listen to certain songs from the Maccabeats and AKA Pella that I knew the original songs, because I knew that would only make me want to go back to those songs.

I have to say that b”H this really worked. I have not listened to English music since the beg of the school year. At first it was really hard, but as time went on it became much easier and I learnt to appreciate the pesukim and the inspiration of the Jewish music.

They say that you have to go from one extreme to the other to get to a middle healthy place. So at 1st I was listening to all English music, then I completely stopped. Now I believe that I am in that middle area. If I am at a store that has music blasting, or I am with some friends who are playing their music or in a car that has it on, I no longer feel like I need that in my life. Additionally, I now can listen to the maccabeats and groups like that without wanting the original versions.

Basically, just thought that this might give you some tips on how to stop like not trying to slowly stop, but by stopping all at once. Good Luck!

It definitely is. The point is that you don’t know what others are paying for their belongings. You are accusing people of spending crazy amounts of money on certain items that can instead be used on better things such as tzedakah. However since you are not behind their computers as they are doing their shopping, there is no way for you to know just how much they are spending in reality.

This is ridiculous Daniel! If someone wants to spend money on a Gucci bag, that is their business and completely not yours!!! Maybe if you were a gadol hador or were a complete tzaddik that was perfect in all areas you would be able to go around telling people that they should try to fix their bad middos (or in your case not spend so much money.) Until then how about sticking to things like working on yourself and not trying to work on other people.

I have a friend who is very ‘at risk’. She tells me that she feels like her parents don’t care about her at all. One of the big examples that she uses it that when she comes home at 3 am most parents would question their kids about where they were etc. but hers don’t. She prob would get defensive if they did ask, but even tho she puts on that tough exterior for them that’s not how she feels. No, they wouldn’t be able to stop her, but maybe she would think twice before going and doing whatever she is doing.

However, she is not close with them, so if they would just randomly start asking her questions about her friends etc. she prob would get annoyed with them and not want to answer.

As I said before, u mite think that u no wat is good for u even tho it mite not be. I probably shouldn’t be answering this since I’m just in hs myself, but I just think that if ur trying to become a better person it should be for yourself and not by trying to make deals with God.

What is the difference between borrowing CD and borrowing a book? If I borrow a book from someone and read it, I will probably not go and buy the book the same way that I wouldnt be buying the CD. So in both cases, the author/publisher/singer will be loosing money, so according to this is it also assur to borrow a book?
