MP: It is not derech eretz to give up learning for comfort. And wanting to learn more Torah is not selfish whatsoever.

(I also understand where you are coming from. Since you are not giving up Torah learning by going to date, your thought is understandable.)

whatrutalkingabt: You can’t learn as well outside the beis medrash.

It IS derech eretz that she give up a little comfort for Torah. It is derech eretz that he learn more rather than less. And learning shouldn’t be given up for comfort, comfort should be given up for Torah.

So when she comes to him so he shouldn’t have to leave the gemorah so much, that is derech eretz. AND she is happy and comfortable to do so. Especially since she knows she is getting schar for the additional Torah learning she enabled. A good girl is the one who wants it this way.

I respect Skvere for their tremendous Hachnosos Orchim (as anyone who ever spent even one Shabbos in New Square can easily attest to.)

MP: You aren’t correct. Torah takes precedence. Any good girl is more than willing to give a little comfort for more Torah. That is derech eretz.

Any girl who would want to marry him would much rather give up some comfort for herself so he could learn a little longer.

I’m familiar with that incident. He called the police after a big rov advised him to. 1+ for the rabbonim.

They use Cholov Yisroel milk in your coffee if you ask them to, but I don’t know that their equipment is Cholov Yisroel anyways, since they also serve non-CY.

She comes to him perhaps to make him feel as comfortable as possible. Especially if he is learning and her coming will reduce his time away from the gemorah.

According to the statement the Agudah released last week by Rav Avi Shafran, the psak of the gedolim, including Rav Eliashev, that the Agudah bases their position on says that a Rov must be asked on each specific case to determine if the halachic parameters have been met, since the halachic parameters are complex.

I respect Chareidim for their strong Emunas Chachomim and following Talmidei Chachomim even if they don’t understand or agree.

I respect Sefardim for their strong sense of Kovod HaRav and deferring to their Rabbonim’s say on whatever matters.

I agree with the consensus above. I am in my 30’s and have many friends in their teens (14, 15, 18, etc.) I think it is beautiful. Although I don’t have as a wide range of aged friends as Wolf and Sender Av indicated they do, as I get older I will continue to have teenaged friends, so the gap will widen (and iy”H I’ll match Wolf and Sender Av 🙂

What does the Gemorah’s principle of Nashim Daatan Kalos teach us today; how would we apply it?

Gedolei Yisroel have been crying against divorces for many many years now.

I’ve heard from several gedolei yisroel that most divorces are preventable and should not have happened.

And, yes, the children are the greatest korbonos of divorce. Especially the fighting between the parents after the divorce.

I always heard that it is recommended that the layoff take effect immediately (perhaps so they can’t mess up things after they are notified) and you give them a certain number of weeks as severance pay.

If a guy and girl want to get married, it’s no one else’s business that he’s much older than her. No one’s forcing anyone to marry anyone else.

It’s a misdemeanor. As first time offenders they will get a fine and probation.
