wow – the reason I asked is as follows. You have said

    – he grew up in normal home

    – he wants to hang out on the street and not do anything (essentially, that’s how whatever the problem is is manifesting itself)

So we have a kashe (subject of the last 600 posts), what is the issue (and also probably what is his friend’s issue)?

    So I was thinking (it’s a thought – that’s all) as follows:

One of the foundational concepts of Transactional Analysis psychotherapy is the script. That is, the subconcious life plan of the individual.

This is formed early in life (about the age of 6) and goes through various permutations and combinations as the child tests reality and determines their possibilities.

It sounded like your child does not have a script, which would be a psychopathology. Becuase he has told you virtually explicitly that he does not know where he is going.

So he would be now testing a random process of seeing where he will end up in life if he lets go of everything he knew and only sails in unchartered waters

Choppy – Rabbi Mordechai Miller of Gateshead said if a person was pulled away from bowing before the altar in a church because the Nazis found out his grandmother was Jewish and they killed him for being Jewish while he is protesting that he is not, he is going straight to olam haba

here to help – “these kids are very often not willing to go for therapy”

    so ask him

“I STRONGLY believe that no one can help him more than his parents can” – there is a multi-billion dollar psychotherapy industry that says otherwise

The passuk says – atem eydai – you are My witnesses.

This means that as the chosen people, we very often do not do what we are meant to do, but still kol yisroel yesh lahem chelek leolam haba becuase the purpose of our existence transcends the limits of olam hazeh.

If someone dies becuase they are Jewish, that means they have left an indelible marker in history that there was such a thing as a Jew.

Bipolar is a word – let’s forget about that, words are irrelevant. The point the freeze is making I think is that to be fair your son is dysfunctional, that needs therapy.

Fair call, 200 years ago we weren’t all living in cramped city quarters, we had something called sky and grass and sheep and birds and laneways.

Who says everyone can stay spiritually attuned and live in a blaring psychadelic mind-numbingly functional society, it’s not easy

I don’t think you can understand this inyan with a “hagashah mussari”. This relates to a sog from Rav Hutner, ‘The darshanim said mihr dahr arein legen in die pessukim’, the baalei mussar said, ‘Mihr darf nicht arein leigin, nur mihr darf arus nehmen fun die pessukim.’ Rav Hutner said, it comes out, diese legen arein und diese nemmen arois ober keiner sogt peshat nischt!

(shaygetz – apologies for my german yiddish)

The kevius ha’halacha has got nothing to do with a “ramah nisgavah” of adinus hamidos.

Sam2 – I think the Torah view of the world is Torah centric and the understanding of the nature of the world by someone who is coming to determine the halacha is the havanah of the world that is valid in Torah discussions.

Therefore if we have a hishtashelus in halacha so that prior generations were kovea halacha at a level that is locked out to us (for whatever reason – various discussions around why you can’t argue on a gemara) then we are also locked out of the dicussion around the havanah of the world that relates to that discussion essentially

Just to re-iterate a point that has been mentioned a few times. Lephi aniyus daati the answer to the question asked at the chasuna (a few posts ago) – what is going on? Is that if shamayim (ruchniyos… whatever you want to call it) is painted in such a demarcated gridlike fashion that you absolutely have to fit in in a very particular way to be called a good person, then that will drive away normal children who simply don’t relate to / can’t relate to such a circumscribed mode of existence.

I am not offering any solutions becuase I don’t have any, but I am absolutely convinced that that is the answer to ‘what is going on’

Vechi mah inyan shemittah etzel har sinai? This means that Hashem empathizes with us kaveyachol, to say that we daven for Hashem chas veshalom that He should not experience the tzar he has from empathizing with us through our redemption is just Polish and the wrong way round.

he wouldn’t do it, and he wouldn’t be interested – ask him

I’m not sure it would be right to force him to daven when he hates it – hergel naaseh teva – people get used to doing the things that they do

I’d rather ‘bribe’ him to stay with counseling – there is no tachlis in that

please ignore if off the mark
