Nat bar nat might not apply here – as the popcorn could have some of the actual oil on it and this oil touched the parve pot. But, it probably wasn’t hot enough anymore and also it would be botul – considering the amount of the oil to the size of the pot.

Epis – What does single have to do with this??

I am not a chosid – I am ashkenaz…and most of the people who I know [none are chassidish] wear tefillin and make a brocho.

I’m not a ‘Litfak’ and I wear, with a brocho.

How can a bais din convene on such a matter without the husband, the ba’al din himself, being there or being asked his side of the matter?

jewishfeminist02 – “So according to your opinion” – what I am saying that one needs to look at Halacha, it’s not my opinion.

Halacha makes a difference between adult and child and between one-and-one and where are others are present. This halacha is brought in Shulchan Oruch under Hilchos Yichud.

jewishfeminist02 – a college is not a one-on-one situation; and there we are speaking of adults.

We’re speaking of one non-jew taking care of a child [or children] – that’s not the same as an adult in college.

The OP is correct. Based on Shulchan Oruch E”H 22:4 one is not even permitted to give a child to a non-jew even to teach him a profession [reasons: chashad of killing, teaching meenus, a.o.] – never mind having the non-jew take care of the child all day.

On a related issue, if the care is done in the Jew’s house, the keilim might need tevila [and perhaps even kashering].

jewishfeminist02 – we live by halacho, and not ‘our feelings.’

Emuna Peshuta is definitely NOT enough.

A great resource for this is Rabbi Dovid Sapirman – Ani Maamin Foundation [google AniMaamin or Dovid Sapirman]. His lectures [24 in all] are available in both mp3 and CDs.

Besides proving that Hashem exists, runs the world [debunks evolution], he proves that Hashem gave both the written and Oral Torah.

He also has a little booklet on Emuna [published by Torah Umesora]

    Great reading and necessary listening.

    Highly recommended.

    <<Kozov –

Where do you see that? It mentions a “kova shebarosho” a [single] hat…where do you see 2 hats?

One of our married children had no children for many years – and unfortunately still doesn’t – even though we gave a lot of money for this ‘segula’ a few years back. No guarantees.

Actually the opposite might be true.

There is a halacha in Hilchos Safrus that states that one is not allowed to be mekadesh a name that is not intended to mean Hashem.

None of these names are meant to be Hashem’s name, so they should be written out completely.

I am deeply disturbed by this thread. I agree whole heartedly with the OP.

While I am not in the kashrus business, I do have semicha and keep myself informed regarding kashrus issues.

One only needs to read the monthly magazine Kashrus to be aware of some of the many reasons one needs to rely on hashgacho and not just checking ingredients..

[1] not all ingredients need be listed

    [2]
    [3]
    [4]
[5] same as 4, but for any other listed ingredient

[6] every person working in the plant is trusted that nothing else gets placed in the product?

    [7]
[8] who knows what this plant produced in the same equipment before this product was made?

    Agree fully with aries.

Rav Schwab, zt”l, who was part of the Agudah, would NEVER have agreed to this. His motto was always that Torah Values cannot be compromised for money. He mentioned this many times. Shame on Agudah to sell our precious Torah for $$$.

Having a son in the parsha, who is learning and going to college, who plans to go to work after marriage, I know what this is like. He was rejected for a shiduch recently because he was not planning on learning full-time after marriage. He is very serious about his plans as well as busy with chesed work.

So, instead of talking about this, let’s try to start something new – shidduchim for only those boys who want to work/koveah itim and those girls who want such a boy for a husband.

Please get my email from YWN editors and send me your information. Let’s see if we can help each other…
