Explanation:
*Goyishe* places selling X-mas Chocolate do not all sell chocolate coins. They have many different shapes and designs, different colors and decorations etc. but not coins.
One place that had coins – advertised them as *Kosher*. This means a Goyish boss wanting to give a Jewish employee an Present – along with all his other employees getting *X-mas presents* can give him something *Jewish*/Kosher.
That does not make it a Jewish custom by any stretch of the imagination. Nor does it turn *Chanukah Gelt* into a goyish custom because the Goy gave it to the Jew.
If for example , a Goy gave you a present Shabbos Candles. Does this mean from now on Goyim light Shabbos Candles? The Goy purposely chose a present to give to the Jew that he can use. That doesn’t make this item a Goyish custom.

By us the minhag was coins ‘davka’. That means it started with pennies then increasing with the yrs. After a quarter came 1/2 dollar coin then one dollar coin. Additionally it stopped once i was old enough to earn my own $ with the explanation “I was no longer a child and understood the value of mitzvos without it”.
I was also told, as mentioned earlier, the concept started in order to encourage the children to learn(like the concept of allowance). And every time i got a coin i was told “This is a reminder to learn”. Which is not doable with presents. Additionally, the money can later be used for anything including tzedaka of my choice. A present is much harder to do a mitzva with unless its a sheep being saved for Korban Pesach.

I know of yekkes who used to walk down mother/mother, father/father back in germany. The yekkes i know who made indoor Chupas made it in a hall that the roof opens(sort of like a built in succah).

Other minhagim like gebraks, The Ch”S himself did and as far as i know most Oberland did but ‘Yekkes’ (like Schlesingers in London) do not cook or bake with gebroks, dip and eat they do.

Sfardim did not always cover their heads. But they ALWAYS covered it when davening, making brachos and eating. And of course learning – for those who learned.(It was less common for Sfardim to learn)
