☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
It’s not on their website.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s actually marjoram, and would probably be good on pizza.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI still think there’s something very wrong with someone who thinks he is being more compassionate than Chazal.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBen, ironically, I understand the S.A. as Sam does, but for some reason he decided that I meant you can justify anything with it, which I didn’t.
PAA, what you think “might be problematic” certainly is, and although they’ll frame it differently, that is essentially what some of the “frum” vegetarians are saying.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDoes that mean you’re not inviting popa either?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, practical advise to avoid a situation where you might stumble is incredibly vague. Seems like a recipe for ish kol hayashar b’einov ya’aseh, no?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPoor example; the Torah says lo sikrivu, and the Shulchan Aruch uses the term “m’od m’od”.
If someone truly didn’t eat meat as a chumrah in ” v’rachamav al kol maasov”, we could discuss it. The people who are apikorsim have ulterior motives.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantEither which way the point that I am trying to bring out is that we see that something can be muttar yet still be considered achzorius – i.e. the fact that something is muttar doesn’t by definition make it not achzorius.
But neither does the fact that something which is muttar is achzarius. Specifically, shechitah for the meat is not achzarius, and I believe that some one who thinks it is, and thinks he is more moral than all of the fine Yidden who have eaten meat for many generations, thinks he is more moral than the Torah whether he uses the term or not, and is in fact anti-Torah, not just anti-Shvus Yaakov (how’s that for a run-on sentence?).
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant?’ ???”? ???? ???? ?’ ?’ ??’ ?”? ???? ??????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou’re correct about the location of the ??”?. Sorry.
I disagree with your conclusion, though. I think the reason it is achzarius to pluck the feathers is because of the extreme tzaar, which isn’t present regarding shechitah.
I don’t believe we find anywhere in Shulchan Aruch a maalah in abstaining from meat because of achzarius.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell then, you’re not invited.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI understand popa’s complaint, “Worst is when you get invited somewhere and then the people decide they are making early shabbos” to be against those who only tell him that they’re making early Shabbos after he’s already accepted the invitation.
He did kind of muddle the issue with his ill-conceived hashkafic tayna on early Shabbos, but I would hope and expect that he doesn’t really have a problem with someone making early Shabbos, as long as it’s not at his expense.
So let’s try an experiment: Popa, I plan on making early Shabbos next week. Any issues?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s a more plausible presentation of your theory, which is an interesting one.
It does remain a curiosity; a number of poskim have written to that effect.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant42
Good line, though 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantbump
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantas Vonnegut said, “you are who you pretend to be.”
What does that say about someone who uses the screen name “Veltz Meshugener”? 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOld man, it’s hard to accept your theory that a community loyal to halachah would make a change, even “a ‘minor’ change mid’rabanan to cut from six to three”, based only on “sociological neccessity”. There would have to be a m’kor/sevara, although the sociological necessity could definitely play a role.
It’s entirely possible that there were those who defined “seuda acheres” as the shortest seuda interval in a given time/locale (similar to Mizmor L’Dovid), and even explained at least some Rishonim’s six hours in that context.
It should be noted that the Chayei Adam (127:10 IIRC; I’ll try to find it and link it later if I have time) notes a legitimate minhag to wait “eizeh sha’os” (which would include three), and says it is legitimate to be meikil in case of necessity. He does not talk about “sociological necessity”; that expansion would be your chiddush.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant800 at last count. Probably 700 of them Joseph.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWas it the one about the homeless guy on the subway?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy friend’s friend had the same thing happen to him. I (I mean he) pleaded not guilty, claiming thay the cop couldn’t tell based on his angle. I (oops again – HE) was found guilty anyway, because the cop lied and said he was at an angle to see the light in both directions.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou could move further west.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid she at least buy salt and batteries?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI assume there are non-Jewish news agencies which are providing the news for multiple media outlets, most of which are not Jewish owned.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNotasheep, the reason I’m not getting your being open-minded is because you keep questioning how popa can’t make early Shabbos. You want to know something? I don’t either. My life experiences are vastly different. I b”H do have the luxury of early Shabbos if I want (I usually opt not to, out of halachic considerations, but I don’t live in Gateshead, so I’m not judging you, or for that matter, anyone anywhere), but I can accept that popa (or anyone) can have such a reality, even if it’s out of my realm of experience.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPBA,
If you work such long hours, how do you have time to post in the coffee room?
He has his secretary post for him. (Disregard popa’s answer. In this thread we’re allowed to assume we know more about other people’s lives than they do.)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY: that isn’t my REAL name, you know
Oh, stop nitpicking on punctuation.
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/kids-are-reading-my-posts-wwyoshkedo?#post-517659
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI would take it a step further and say that not all jobs are the same, and not all businesses are the same. Some jobs, even with crazy hours, may have more flexibility than others, and some business owners may need to be available to their clients/customers to be successful.
The point is that a person should not think that the world is limited to his/her experiences.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNotasheep, so you know people who work crazy hours and still make early Shabbos. Good for them.
Well, I know someone who works crazy hours and can’t make early Shabbos. His name is popa_bar_abba. His life is apparently not the same as your father’s, husband’s, or friends’ husbands’. You, for some reason, think it is, and that is an assumption, and frankly, I have no idea why you insist on making it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa is making a point with his use of the phrase.
The “real world” includes situations which not everyone is familiar with.
He insists that he has a job which requires him to work late on summer Fridays. Why assume he’s making it up?* There are undoubtedly aspects of your life which popa hasn’t experienced – no two people have the same life, but I would hope that he would understand and respect that.
As long as he is making it home in time for Shabbos, I can’t understand what your issue is.
*Yes, I know, his username link. But I think I’m pretty good at sniffing out when he’s serious.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt is, and that’s a great attitude you have. It’s tough, though.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh. I opened the thread thinking it was about this:
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA hard candy before?
Hatzlacha
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI did sign it; now can I argue about whether or not it’s productive? 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAnd ????? ?????? so at the very least, he gets credit for ?????.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, how many other posters have mentioned geshmake troll threads?
Improving? Vastly improved! Momish a pro!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantActually, you no longer need to log in to sign a petition, unless you want to keep track of what you’ve signed.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCharlie, you’re welcome. Honestly, I’m skeptical about the value of White House petitions, but once it’s up, I figured I’d sign.
By the way, you were right, it took quite a few hours, but my signature is visible. I laughed at your line about the site being put up by the same people as the Obama Care site.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWould you please stop complaining about my lamenting?!
🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, did you find the TZ”E I referred to?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantR’ Moshe’s teshuvah:
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSources for heter (I can’t link to Tzitz Eliezer, but I can link to some of his sources):
http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=14561&st=&pgnum=48
http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=1902&st=&pgnum=81&hilite=
http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=40774&st=&pgnum=29
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantShir Hashirim is Kodesh Kodoshim.
http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=37951&st=&pgnum=427
Also, the fact that Shir Hashirim uses the relationship between a man and a woman as a moshol for the relationship between klal Yisroel and the Eibishter makes it particularly dangerous to make songs out of it (although most learn that the issur applies to all of Tanach).
IIRC, there’s also a teshuva from R’ Moshe about it; I’ll try to find it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, it was discussed here:
It’s not on hebrewbooks, which only has the ?”? up to ??? ?”?.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant??”? ??? ?????? ??? ?”? ??’ ?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt wasn’t a complaint, it was a lament.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant?????????????? ??????? ??????? ???????????? ??? ?????????? ??? ??????? ??? ?????????? ??? ????????? ??????? ?????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFTR, I didn’t say he was conservative, just that this “psak” is shared with conservative. And my macha’ah for the kavod of Chacham Ovadiah zt’l stands.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s not a matter of merely taking sides on a halachic issue; this fellow passeled himself with his comments, and you can’t seriously claim that an Ashkenazic posek is meikil on kitniyos based on his opinion, which is, apparently, that of the conservative movement.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJbaldy22, can you see your signature on the site?
