Also the alphabet song.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI logged into my account, signed, and clicked on the email link. The page said that I successfully signed it, but my initials didn’t show up.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPAA, I do agree to that. My point was specific to this situation.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCharlie, is WQXR appreciably different than it was?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat was the Mizmor L’Dovid’s pshat?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantToi!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWould you say there kol haposel? I assume not.
Of course not. In halachah, we do weigh the gadlus of poskim when determining who is correct. Without even knowing the issue, I will say that R’ Moshe is right (especially since he uses such strong language.)
Similarly, Chacham Ovadiah zt’l gets enough credit from me (as if he needs my haskamah…) that when someone of lesser stature (about which you seem to agree with me) ch’v says what he does, I take sides with Chacham Ovadiah and call “Kol haposel” on the other fellow.
But of course, Kol haposel is not a universal rule, you have know how to apply it. And, as you seem to agree, there is an earned hierarchy in klal Yisroel.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPAA, if he wants to disagree l’halachah, that’s one thing. But just because he doesn’t like his conclusion, doesn’t give him the right to question motive. Kol haposel b’mumo posel, so I assume that he himself paskens based on ulterior motives, and he projected his own shortcomings on a huge talmid chochom. As far as I’m concerned, that’s not a posek, and popa’s right.
I also agree with popa, no matter how much you want to nitpick, that taking a psak out of context and misapplying it is naarishkeit, not halachah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt was the opposite – He was attempting to prove that someone was being disingenuous and part of his proof (whether valid or not) was via quoting his opinion.
I read it that he was supporting his position on kitniyos, but you might be right, and I can’t see it anymore anyhow.
“there’s a certain hierarchy in Klal Yisroel (earned), and you can’t compare one person or situation to another. This fellow isn’t in the same league.”
This point I actually agree with somewhat.
My other points are based on this one.
I will add, though, and clarify, that if someone is accused of being disingenuous in psak, his status as a posek has been put into serous question.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant“Aside from the fact that he contradicts himself”
Where?
You can’t accuse someone of being disingenuous and then expect to promote your opinion by quoting his. V’hamaynin yovin.
I was just responding to the claim that “no modern day ashkenazi posek calls it stupid, or suggests you can be meikel with it in any way.”
Kol haposel b’mumo posel, so you can’t expect Antone to take him seriously as a posek. Again, v’hamayvin yovin.
Also, I’m sure you won’t even need my help in finding Rishonim/Acharonim whose halachic conclusions we accept, who were disrespectful to other Rishonim/Acharonim.
First of all, it’s more than just an issue of disrespect, it’s really, although he would deny it, almost complete nullification. Second, and more importantly, there’s a certain hierarchy in Klal Yisroel (earned), and you can’t compare one person or situation to another. This fellow isn’t in the same league.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, at least they’re doing a good job on #4.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMaybe we could use it to catch herring. 🙂
Of course there’s such a thing as heimish’e ta’am. It’s the same idea as Persians liking Persian food and Hungarians liking Hungarian food, and the fact that nobody’s cholent is as good as my mother’s (except my wife’s, if she’s reading this). There’s a huge cultural and emotional aspect to food that has nothing to do with how Hashem made our taste buds (although that’s part of it as well).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid that same book say it was Chinese?
Maybe (according to Wikipedia, unsourced) it’s based on a Japanese “good luck charm” (not idol) called maneki-neko (which is also popular in China), but it’s just a fictional character based on a design used originally as a decoration on merchandise such as coin purses.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m not buying into Hello Kitty being A.Z. so fast.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantZD, actually, yes. I used to have it with sour cream, but it’s been a while. Do they still sell it? I wonder what the bug situation is with schav.
You must think I’m a horrible person for liking all of these foods.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantEditor, any progress?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantP’tcha? Yum!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantB”H for religious accommodation.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCoffee is avodah zara.
uh oh
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI saw the now deleted post. Aside from the fact that he contradicts himself, we do not accept the halachic conclusions of someone who could be so disrespectful. (Although I could nitpick, I think pba over all did a pretty good job of showing how this particular “psak” takes various legitimate sources out of context.)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf you make up the work on Motzaei Shabbos (which, btw, explains the recent dearth of geshmak’e troll threads), why is it such a great difficulty?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou’re a g’vir?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you really not finish work before then?
There are certainly some people who work a lot longer than the “typical” 9-5 schedule.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHe probably meant shlugging the shliach tzibbur with esrogim.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, the CR is open 24/6. (minus bain hashmoshos)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou work?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAs it turns out, popa’s wrong, popa’s right, and popa’s wrong, but I think still, popa’s right.
Popa seems to be wrong (unless there’s takah a different medrash) about Odom Horishon.
He’s right that HKB”H did melochoh bain hashmoshos.
He’s wrong that this has anything to do with us. HKB”H was able to be metzamtzem, which we can’t do (see Rashi on Beraishis 2:2), and, in fact, we have a mitzvah of tosefes Shabbos, and adding more time is a hiddur.
He is right, though, that early Shabbos is not really halachically ideal in most situations; there’s the issue of tarti d’sasri.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid Hashem keep ???’ ????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s because you didn’t invite me.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCan I just give directions to Schwartz’s?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant??”? ??”? ??”? ?
Under normal circumstances, you’re supposed to start right away.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, midwesterner.
