☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Just checking in. Nothing interesting. I think I’ll go to sleep now.
G’nite, all!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf someone came along today and decided that all halachah should follow Beis Shammai, we would censure him as well. Yet, that’s exactly what Beis Shammai did.
See, that’s part of mesorah – knowing which views were rejected (although not the one who presented the view, ch”v) and which not. Not everything is as black and white as BS/BH, but the phenomenon still exists.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant147, they are. Not my fault the mods are overcautious.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou mean the flag.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant1) VoIP cuts out on me too often
2) Not compatible with my home security system
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOk, I didn’t pay attention, since I have Canada included in my landline anyhow. Cell only wouldn’t work for my household. For some, I know, it does. Had I knwn about Obihai, maybe I wouldn’t have bought Ooma, but that’s water under the bridge now.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI would guess about 10% not approved, and I would estimate that about half of those are because the moderator didn’t understand what I was trying to say (amI in the doghouse now?).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLJ, if you don’t try to understand the rationale of the gedolim, you’re missing out. “Torah hi v’tzorich ani lilmod”.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTruthsharer, that’s only because they already have it; otherwise they’d manage fine, either by paying workers, or through volunteers.
There’s no reasonable cause to pull bochurim out of yeshivah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI have an Ooma already, (as a second line) but as I wrote (as you were posting), I can’t afford the instability of VOIP as an only line.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI checked Amazon; it says US and Canada is free, and international calls have “great rates”. I have that already (well, not Canada, but my landline has that anyhow, and I won’t give up the reliability it offers) by using GV as a calling card, so what’s the ma’aleh?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh, right, the Obihai box. I should look into that, but I probably don’t make enough international calls to even justify the $40 cost.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantScare tactics notwithstanding, if you’re in a society, and taking from that society, and where everyone else is giving to help make the society better, then you have to do your part as well. What is so bad with that?
Nothing, and since we all hopefully agree to Chazal”s assessment that limud haTorah is a tremendous benefit to all, and their proclamation that one who says “mai ahani lon rabbanan” (the Torah scholars are of no benefit to us) is an apikorus, we can put to rest the notion that the b’nei yeshivah who are learning are not doing (more than) their share.
And Nationa Service is not a quasi-acceptable replacement, it is an acceptable replacement.
Why is national service an acceptable replacement, when a major part of, if not the whole tayna, is that the chareidim refuse to put their lives at risk?
In the U.S., for example, there is no requirement for national service, and even if a draft became necessary, it would be to populate the military, not to run soup kitchens and sweep hospital floors.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTruthsharer, is there a way to use this combination through my home phone? Currently, I use Google voice as a calling card, so calling E.Y. or England, for example, are very cheap, but not free. Can I use your combination to make it totally free, or can I only do that with an Android?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTruthsharer, can you explain why national service is somehow considered a quasi-acceptable replacement for military service? I can; the real point is to get the b’nei Torah out of the beis medrash.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant147 -“Meanwhile, both Lapid & Bennett better begin fearing for their Olom haBo, let alone for what might transpire in the next Knesset election.”
HUH?!?! What do you mean? I thought Zionists like you agree with these guy’s policies.
Health, many Dati Leumi rabbonim have expressed great pain at what Bennet and Lapid are trying to do, despite these rabbonim’s differences with chareidi hashkafos.
It is obvious to many, even not in the chareidi camp, that “share the burden” is just an excuse; they are trying to destroy Torah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt dials out in the background.
What does that mean?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYes, squeak you got me (due to the fact that I disagree with you so vehemently about the age gap that I could imagine you believe in other conspiracy theories as well). When you confirmed to the harmless Breslover that you were serious, I considered the possibility that you really were.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJMH,the part about hanging upside down from trees wad my very own chiddush.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRav Pam ztz”l advised against OT or PT. ST was fine.
March 10, 2013 4:38 pm at 4:38 pm in reply to: For Pesach: Sweet & Savory Brick Roast (or French Cut Square Roast) #935632☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWill this work with a Solomon’s or Alle brick roast, or just Aaron’s?
March 10, 2013 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm in reply to: For Pesach: Baby Lamb Chops with Wine Vinaigrette #935628☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOkay, the salt must be kosher. What about everything else?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think the vast majority of parents have confidence that their childrens’ yeshivos and BYs do a reasonably good job of spending efficiently; there will always be malcontents, and exposing the budget won’t help much.
OTOH, there are major privacy concerns in exposing the schools’ finances; the staff has a right to privacy regarding their salaries, and parents have a right to privacy regarding their personal finances. It’s demeaning enough (although necessary) for 50% (or more) of parents to have to show their income and expenses to a tuition board. Must their finance become public knowledge?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy can’t you just use the Google Voice app? Does it use minutes?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSqueak, have you written on the subject, and if so, where can we find it?
I think SF asked a good question, and if you’re serious about this, it deserves an answer.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMazel tov, agent! May he grow to be a yarei shamayim and talmid chochom!
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant1. Technically, he can’t pasul baked matzos, but he can bake matzos shelo lishmah.
2. I agree that technically it’s next to impossible to pull it off, as I posted earlier. I’m looking at this from a theoretical perspective, as yekke2 suggested.
3. You might be right, b’dieved (l’chatchilah, the bakeries are makpid to constantly say “l’shem matzas mitzvah), but not if he had specific intention for it to be shelo lishmah.
4. I wasn’t disputing this point, but you seemed to be inferring that the acceptance of machine matzah, at least by some authorities, indicates that there’s no need for lishmah, which is not the case.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantShintzy, c’mon, it was cute.
JMH, yes, they use SeaMonkey.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI drink about four or five (large) cups of brewed coffee per day, plus the occasional decaf.
The question is, does anyone know of an inexpensive ground roast which tastes good? I’ve splurged on Gevalia, but I’d like to economize. Folgers Gourmet was horrible; I imagine the regular is worse. I tried the Kirkland Signature World Blend – I returned it. Chock Full O’ Nuts is not bad, but does anyone know of something better?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhen are we going to recognize that MOST of it seems to be counterproductive?
Oomis, when will you realize that you’re out of the loop, and that those who use the shidduch system have much better success than those who don’t? Sure, it’s not perfect, and that’s why there is such a commotion about tweaking it, but it’s far better than the hefkerus you suggest, not only tznius-wise, but success-wise.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantGoogle Voice is terrific. I though of an additional way to use it; I wonder if anyone’s tried this. If someone moves to a different city, they can’t usually transfer their phone # to the new city, but I was thinking that they can port their old number to Google Voice and have it ring on their new line.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOld man: Furthermore, the lishmah is inherent in the baking process, a la machine matzah
What does that mean? There is a shailah about machine matzoh whether or not it’s lishmah, and as yekke2 wrote, the opinion that holds it’s okay assumes that turning on the machine is the act of baking which requires lishmah.
I think you just tried to wipe out the whole din of lishmah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhether it is true or not is irrelevant – change the title from “scandal” to “shaila”.
That’s a good point.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI turned my keyboard upside down (just kidding).
There are numerous sites which allow you to input text, and it flips it for you; you then copy and paste into the reply box.
Google “flip text” or “upside down writing”.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI was unaware this idea had been done before….
That’s what all plagiarists say. 😉
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPopa, it seems she’s saying that it’s counterproductive.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI suppose whichever mod wrote that hasn’t been around for long. Unless s/he was being funny.
I see your mind has been preoccupied with other things. From the subtitle, it’s muchrach that the mod who applied it to you knew exactly what your sn means.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYitayningwut, MAZEL TOV!
May you be zoche to build a bayis ne’eman b’Yisroel!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSqueak, you’re defending your proof by repeating your assertion.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree with apushatayid.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantT613,
The boys know they’re at an advantage. Advertisements don’t add to that.
BTW, the latest round of kol korehs was about boys marrying when they’re younger, not about marrying older girls.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI changed my mind. You can have my old one.
(I’m only allowed one at a time).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSqueak, there’s a replica of 770 in Kfar Chabad. Does that prove there’s no 770 in Crown Heights?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe ones who knead, roll, and bake the matzoh are not the ones who box it, so how would he know?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCommunicate for work related issues, send and receive family pictures.
I don’t oppose occassional, supervised use by teens.
My wife and I see each others’ emails, which greatly reduces any danger.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBenignuman,
The subtitle seems to be your screen name divided: Benign Uman.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe clothing gemach of Young Israel of New
Hyde Park: 917-703-4694.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf your point is that 22 year old girls are second class, I would like to disagree.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI cant believe you buy into that conspiracy theory.
I can.
