The mezuza isn’t the reason. So covering it helps in no way.

Poster: What you are describing about yourself is almost the opposite of MorahRach’s situation. Morah is in dire financial circumstances and needs the financial assistance. And yet her in-laws are not only not helping, but they are helping the siblings who don’t need it. You, on the other hand, are in a good financial situation yourself and don’t need the financial assistance. So your in-laws are helping the siblings who need it more than you.

    Quite different than Morah’s matzav.

Buy your husband a necktie. But, really, celebrating a wedding anniversary is a goyishe zach, not a yiddishe zach.

I think it would be more with the Hebrew/Yiddish referral on the invitation “Uriso”, which to me sounds much more like the woman being the shlep along (pardon me if I am wrong, I do not know where or why this began, or if has any Halachic source. For that matter I think Mar & Maras sounds better than “uriso”, if indeed some feel it’s a lack of tznius to mention the woman’s name, though I don’t understand it.

Uriso (after her husband’s name) is the proper Jewish way to refer to a wife.

Which is why, for example, Chasuna invitations utilize that language.

Generally speaking only companies with a presence in that State ae required to charge their online (web) customers sales tax. If they have no presence in NY State, they do not have to collect sales tax from their customers.

New York decided that any retailer that pays commission to any New York person or company to refer customers to their website is considered to have a NY presence and thus required to collect NY sales tax. Amazon and others are fighting NY State in court to stop this.

When someone says they’ve tried it both ways and can only connect with the opposite gender, all sorts of red flags should be raised. That is exactly why they should not be seeing the opposite gender.

Style is what Paris decrees. It goes in cycles. After a few changes in styles, the old styles come back and are in style again.

Just wear what you think looks good and disregard styles.

There is nothing wrong with discussing benefits with others. And nothing wrong with helping others obtain benefits.

Furthermore, I find it deeply troubling that some people simply assume (falsely, in most cases) that others do not report all their income when applying for benefits. For one thing, families with income are entitled to government benefits. To assume and claim that someone failed to list their income when applying, is simply motzi shem ra.

And, finally, I do hope those who oppose these benefits are not hypocritical, and when filing their IRS and State income tax returns decline to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credits and other tax credits offered by the government. Many of these tax credits people receive even if they don’t owe taxes or it exceeds the amount of taxes they pay (usually referred to as “refundable tax credits”.) They get a check from the government for it.

Well, who here forgoes claiming tax credits they are entitled to?

    Anyone?

The WSJ is indeed high quality. But it is nowhere near as comprehensive as the NYT. The WSJ is actually more comprehensive for business coverage, but nowhere close for international, national, political and local news.

(As an aside, while the WSJ is conservative on its editorial pages, it is not conservative [or pro-Israel] by any means on its news pages. And indeed the NYT’s very strong left-wing biases completely color virtually every news story. Nevertheless, I can see right through that and still get the news after discounting their prejudices.)

Frum Jews are more likely to be in the 47%, than the 1%.

That’s a mathematical fact that is true regarding any random American. The 47% is 47 times larger than the 1%. (Duh.)

That being said, we should consider Jews as a whole for the purpose of this issue, rather than breaking them down in frum vs. frei.

I read it both online and on paper. The reason being is that there is no competition with as comprehensive coverage. It is as simple as that and it is the truth. The other papers are tabloids full of trashy pictures with little news. Only the Times has the level of international, national, political, business, and local coverage that it has.

akuperma: A treaty can only be ratified in the Senate if it is between the U.S. and a foreign nation. Since the State in question will still be a part of the U.S. at the time it may seek secession, a treaty is not a possible avenue and is irrelevant to the issue.

A constitutional amendment is indeed the only avenue to legally secede. But passing a constitutional amendment, as you know, is very difficult as it require the acquiescence of 3/4 of all the States in addition to requiring 2/3 of both houses of Congress (or 2/3 of State conventions.)

aCookieJar: Reminding folks that there will be hell to pay for going OTD is certainly worthwhile. First of all, the person him/herself may have gone OTD even though they still believe in G-d. In which case he/she can still recognize there is reward and punishment when one comes upstairs after 120. Second of all, even if the person went south and doesn’t believe in G-d, G-d forbid, reminding that he/she will be punished is still a deterrent for others who may have otherwise been enticed to go OTD but who hear the message that there will be hell to pay if they do.

Those aren’t positions of Rav Eisenstein shlit”a; those are positions of Maran Hagaon HaRav S. Y. Eliashev zt”l.

Also, the Ethiopians are gentiles (unless they convert.)

Angel is as Orthodox as Avi Weiss.

A prospective convert who does not accept all 613, his purported conversion is invalid and was never effective.

A Dayan who is an apikorus, is an invalid Dayan. And as Rav Eliashev said belief in evolution is apikorsus, that makes it pasul.

After all 50 States have successfully seceded — and the U.S.A. no longer exists, — the 50 independent states will then form a new union and call it the United States of America.
