Satmars who live in the land between The Mediterreanean and The Jordan River what passport do they hold?
I’ve always assumed they either held Hungarian (or other outside country) passports or did not travel outside the country.
gavra_at_workParticipantGavraatwork: becaue the zionists actions have made the Arab countries inhospitable for Jews.
Doubt you. Did you try? Neturai Karta did.
gavra_at_workParticipantWhy?
gavra_at_workParticipantYou’re just saying that the situation changed.
Correct. If we had Gedolim who were pro-active, then they would have worked out a compromise with Bibi & Lapid, and they would have gotten a better outcome. Imagine if the Chazon Ish would have insisted that all Charaidim remain out of the state (the original shitta), and what Torah would look like!
I don’t think they are trying to “illegitimize” Charaidim, but rather to find a way to stop paying for their choices.
I protest the statements calling halacha “bigoted” towards women. The halacha is not bigoted towards women.
Discrimination doesn’t equal bigotry.
Agreed. There is a reason why women are what they are, Hashem made them that way. An outside viewer who does not see why Hashem said that women can not be an Eid (or similar) could conclude that there is bigotry/misogyny involved.
gavra_at_workParticipantSpiderJerusalem: The Bear holds of the typical Rav Yoel Satmar Shitta that the Medinah is the Devil Hees-self.
That being said, I (and SpiderJerusalem) don’t understand (and if Bear would answer that would be great) why Satmar has not left the Medina and gone to Ever HaYarden or Suria, both which have the Mitzva of Yishuv Eretz Yisroel and are not controlled by the hated Zionists.
gavra_at_workParticipantdaniela: At this point, the MKs are not responsible to the voters, but to the parties and where they are placed on the list. Geographic representation would make them responsible to specific voters.
For example, Netanyahu does not have to concern himself with being re-elected, since his party will certainly win seats and he is on top of the list (same for Yachmovitch of Labor, etc.). The MKs have no reason to be responsive to the voters over the needs of the party.
gavra_at_workParticipantUsually your posts make sense,
Health, I want to thank you B’Rabbim.
gavra_at_workParticipantsome people are poor and they need social programs to survive
Why? Let them go on Kupah & Tamchui? Other Yidden should support them.
gavra_at_workParticipantmdd: In defense of ZD, the Torah says that Monarchy is a poor form of government. What he is saying (IMHO) is that Chazal could not discribe what Zman Moshiach will be (if it would be a democracy) since the concept of a democracy did not exist yet.
Let it be said though that Pashtus Moshiach will be the Melech, and the Gemorah uses the term “Nasi”, or Prince.
gavra_at_workParticipantThere shouldn’t be any strings.
Then why should the government pay for anyone’s education? What is the point? If anything, they should abolish universal schooling (which is Stam not a bad idea. Parents should be responsible for their children, not the state).
gavra_at_workParticipantHealth: With all due respect, I believe you are incorrect. Had the situation remained the same way that it was in the 50s (or even the early 90s), where there were many working Charaidim, Charaidi Kibbutzes, and the Charaidim generally stayed in their own communities this still would not have happened. Back then, it was a big deal when the government drove a piece of a generator (IIRC) on Shabbos, because the Charaidim (together with the Dati Leumi) cared that the Yidden in EY followed Halacha. Now, they don’t care about the “seculars” (I hate the term “chilonim”) except as a cash cow.
Unfortunately, at this point, with the explosion of the Charaidi population (Boruch Hashem), both the secular & Dati Leumi feel “crowded out”. This is due (IMHO) to the additional subsidies that have been passed by the Charaidi parties, as well as pushing Charaidi (not Halachic) ideals into the public sphere, such as pictures of (Tznius) women on busses, as well as the takeover of secular communities (by physical force if neccessary). If we would be dealing with the Charaidim of the Chazon Ish, Rav Shlomo Zalman Aurbach & the Ponevicher Rov, we also would not have gotten to the point at which we find ourselves. The Chazon Ish would have found a way to make Shalom with Netanyahu, Lapid & Bennett (just like he did with Ben Gurion), but now there is no one to do so.
??? ?? ????? ????
?????? ???? ?? ?????? ???? ???????
gavra_at_workParticipantThe Charedim are going to suffer because of this Medina and it’s beyond me how
Why will they suffer? They are not going to be drafted.
gavra_at_workParticipantBut the red birds are stunning Niflaos HaBorei.
gavra_at_workParticipantI believe in separating school from state. End the public school system, end direct funding to yeshivas and just give people vouchers. If people want chiloni schools, let them have their own private chiloni schools.
This post deserves its own thread regarding the merits of a voucher system. All I will say here is that the Charaidim would not want the strings that the government would attach to such vouchers if there is separation between church & state. If you wish to discuss further I would be happy to do so in a new thread.
gavra_at_workParticipantAnd I’d rather not get off topic. The topic being whether it is ok to make up stuff from gedolim.
Why not? The Pashkevilim do it all the time! Obviously the Gedolim hold it is muttar to make things up.
gavra_at_workParticipantakuperma: See, we can agree. 🙂
gavra_at_workParticipantphrum: Of course. However, That might not be what the Chilonim think is best. It would be interesting to see what their faces look like when they see what they have been fighting.
Besides, who says Moshiach will be Charaidi? Perhaps he will be Dati? What will the Gedolim say then?
gavra_at_workParticipantThe Hareidim desire to be left alone. They don’t want to march into the hiloni schools and take the students, or change their curriculum. They are insisting that those who go “off the derekh” be returned. They aren’t objection to the hilonim taking court cases to the hiloni courts. They just want to be left alone in their own communities.
If only. The Haraidim desire to control the purse (by taking tax money earmarked for Charaidim, as well as creating laws that specifically benefit Charaidim to the exclusion of all others), housing (by setting up “charaidi only” neighborhoods and “convincing” everyone else to leave) and society (by not allowing secular marriage, enforcing Kosher, “converting” non frum into Charaidim, enforcing their dress code on those outside their society, etc.).
Had the Charaidim left everyone else alone, we would not be having this discussion. It is easy to say “you leave us alone, but we will still control you”. Chazal called that Midas Sedom.
gavra_at_workParticipantI hadn’t the slightest idea what the point was. And now even less so. 🙂
Yup. You could say the point is that it is easy to call someone a bigot, but most of the time there is a reason behind it.
gavra_at_workParticipantI am mystified by what elements of the Chareidi community in Israel, both leadership and amcho, hope to accomplish with their tactics over the last months.
As am I. If it weren’t that the Gedolim are obviously involved, I would say it is due to a lack in Emunah that Hashem runs the world. Just as easily as Lapid can remove Kesef, Hashem can give it back. You think the money is determined by Lapid? If Hashem wanted (and we were worthy), Bloomberg would see the light, become a Ba’al Teshuva and donate his fortune to Mir Yeshiva!! Since when are we somech on the Medina for funds? Do we daven to the Medina to provide them?! Of course not! We say in Bentching “V’Lo Lidai Matnas Basar V’Dam”.
gavra_at_workParticipantAh, back to that? The dati are just as bigoted as the chareidim, what with your mechitzos during davening, not counting women for a minyan, not counting women as witnesses or dayanim, grooms buying brides for silver, etc.
PBA, come on. That wasn’t the point and you know it. The point was that the non-charaidim are not practicing Jim Crow. I do agree with you on the Dati as well.
Most of the world will see the persecution of the Hareidim (denying social security benefits, denying passports, seizing their money) as religious persecution.
We will see.
gavra_at_workParticipantso flip you and your ilk around and lecture the other side, instead of lecturing the chareidim.
Why?
gavra_at_workParticipantYou do realize that everything you just called “bigotry” is all pure halacha, right?
Correct, which is why I said I said “(although I don’t agree that it can be compared either way)”. However, an outside observer who sees this would conclude that there is discrimination and bigotry coming from the Charaidim.
gavra_at_workParticipantRule #1: Do not act incautiously when confronting little bald wrinkly smiling men!
gavra_at_workParticipantakuperma: and now they will be able to work on the books without having to go to the army. That is (one of the reasons) why it is a win.
gavra_at_workParticipantROB: Come on, I’m not that bad, am I? 🙂
gavra_at_workParticipantHealth ?
PBA: In a welfare state, yes. I’m still not sure what your point is. As we discussed elsewhere, someone who has wealth can not “self-declare” themselves Charaidi. The only way to tell is if they don’t have the wealth to be redistributed (for example, they learn full time). The government can then decide not to redistribute to a specific sect or group as per their own self interest.
It is time we realize that our relationship to the zionist rulers of Eretz Yisrael is identical to that of African Americans in the United States prior to World War II.
Yup. I just seen that Charaidi lynched on the street pole!! Next we’re gonna scare off that Charaidi girl Na’ama who just wants to live in our town and go to school!! Then we’all gonna trash that Charaidi store that opened in our neighborhood that sells what we don’t like. Don’t they know this area is ours and they aint welcome?
(oops).
The more apt comparison (unfortunately) is that the Charaidim are practicing Jim Crow. (although I don’t agree that it can be compared either way) This is with their “separate but equal” access to the Kotel, “separate but equal” bussing & exclusive neighborhoods for Charaidim only (to the point where they regulate what visitors are allowed to wear and physically assault those who do not comply).
It is bigotry, pure and simple.
gavra_at_workParticipantThank you Mods and Goq
gavra_at_workParticipanttruth: because the state forces them to pay taxes.
Taxes pay for services. If you want clean water, sewage and garbage removal, roads, etc. you need to pay them.
I hate taxes too.
gavra_at_workParticipantI also second Goq, and ask that the Mods place that word on their “banned” list.
gavra_at_workParticipantHealth: Where is the “I told you so”?
ari-free: You can leave, they just won’t take you back.
gavra_at_workParticipantakuperma: What do the Briskers & Neturai Karta do now? They live without the welfare, and so can those who are serious about learning full time to the point where they can’t do Sherut for a few years.
gavra_at_workParticipantakuperma: The whole point is that they will not be arresting anyone. If Charaidim can only learn Torah B’Osher, then that is their problem. That they will now be forced to follow the Brisker Mehalech and not take the Medinah’s Shekalim? Big deal.
Besides, you discount the Torah too much. Have Emunah that there are people out there who actually believe thay can be Koneh Torah the way Chazal says to do so. (Pas B’Melach Tochal…)
gavra_at_workParticipantDY: Much better than what many (including the “Gedolim” (quotes because I don’t believe they said it), who called it Shmad) thought would happen.
Besides, they would not be “criminals” (subject to punishment by law), but would face monetary penalties (similar to someone who doesn’t buy health insurance under Obamacare). They don’t even have to pay a fine (!!!), but are blocked from certain benefits. As I said, a win for the Charaidim.
gavra_at_workParticipantI suppose you can say that unless someone wants them to visit a place in chutz la’aretz and they are unable to leave.
I imagine they would be allowed to leave if they renounce their citizenship, but even that is a small price to pay in exchange for being allowed to learn in peace.
gavra_at_workParticipantYou’re joking -aren’t you? Since when does a Medina based on Kefira have a Din of Malchus?!?!
LOL 🙂 What do you think Shapur I (the Great) believed?
gavra_at_workParticipantgavra_at_workParticipantI have read many of the discworld books, including Going Postal, Making Money, Thief of Time, (as well as others), and am currently in the middle of Unseen Academicals. Characters that I like include Lord Vetinari,
DEATH (AND SUSAN STO HELIT)
, von Lipwig (its nice to get a second chance), and Detrius (Strong but knows his limitations.Favourite book? At this point Thief of Time (death by chocolate!), but I haven’t read all of them yet.
gavra_at_workParticipantI doubt very highly that a single “gadol” has seen this. Probably a lot of “Ketanim”, but no “Gedolim”. That is why it is in print.
That being said, since you two (or one) believe it is Shmad, what are you doing about it?
gavra_at_workParticipantrebdoniel: B’mechilas K’vodcha, I seriously have no clue what you are getting at.
gavra_at_workParticipantrebdoniel: Minhag Klal Yisroel (even Sephardim) is to be Machmir on Pesach. Period.
daniela: If I can make a few proofreading edits to your otherwise appropriate response….. 🙂

Together with shoveling snow in a hat and jacket, yes. Welcome to Flatbush (so I have heard).

gavra_at_workParticipantHealth: There is a Mitzva of Yishuv Eretz Yisroel in both Jordan (Ever HaYarden) and Syria (Suria). Those who want to be mekayem the mitzva and also have the advantage of not living under the Zionist regime should move to Jordan & Syria.
gavra_at_workParticipantOne possible solution is – I read about this awhile ago -is they (some Charedim) were talking to Jordan about moving there & establishing a Yishuv. If this would take off and Frum people would have the choice to move there -Israel would become more Charedi friendly, not because they care about Charedim leaving, but because their International status & PR, which is right now very low, would sink even more!
That would be wonderful! Please tell me you are serious.
gavra_at_workParticipantI don’t think it would solve the issue.
I hear, but I don’t think it would hurt. We agree to disagree.
gavra_at_workParticipantNo, I’m just surprised that I got one without asking.
gavra_at_workParticipantWho’s enforcing the condition, Lapid?
Who was stopping them when they were in the coalition? There certainly has to be the ability to negotiate and have some back and forth. Mine is an idea where both sides give something, but get something they want.
US English, is that good enough or would you have preferred the Queen’s English?
G-d save the Queen, long may she reign!
gavra_at_workParticipant1: Definitely the Chareidim’s.
2: Yeah it does, because they’ll just take us up on our offer, and then proceed to do whatever they were going to do anyways. It’s never smart to give ammo to your enemy.
1: I wouldn’t be so quick not to place blame on the other side. We quickly forget all of the anti-Torah laws that were passed (the most famous one being the autopsy law). There is a lot of bad blood from both sides.
2: The offer would (obviously) be conditioned on not enforcing the draft. Then it would be “constitutionalized” (requiring 2/3 majority of the MKs & a referendum to overturn).
