I havenโ€™t posted on here in years but I feel like I need to speak up. One of my children was born with a kidney issue. She has one kidney that doesnโ€™t work well. For this, we give her a preventative antibiotic, a prophylactic to prevent her getting infections. Before we started this, she was getting infections way too often and that could be dangerous for her. So now, we give antibiotics to an otherwise overall healthy child in order to prevent infection. It is the same with vaccines. It is a preventative medication you are giving your child to prevent diseases and infections which can otherwise be dangerous.

“bmyer, but I want to play. So what should I do?”

Theres a quote that goes like this. “The right thing to do and the hard thing to do are usually the same”…..there are lots of things that I want to do. But I don’t because it’s wrong. There is no tznius way for guys and girls to play basketball together. I believe you know that, otherwise the question wouldn’t have been asked. Also, speaking from experience, it’s not that hard to put together a girls team if you’re really interested in doing that.

I knew my husband was going to be proposing that night, so when he gave me a huge bouquet and a really nice letter he wrote for me as part of his proposal, I wasn’t shocked….he stood there waiting for an answer and I told him that I wasn’t going to answer him until he asked THE question that every single girl dreams of hearing at some point….he immediately got down on one knee…..

sorry, dont know the answer to your question but i do know that prediabeties is NOT necessarily a club you have to join… and if you’ve already joined, it DOES NOT need to be long term!!!! if you do what your supposed to (ie, diet and excersize…) you can drastically change ur levels….i do know also that its REALLY REALLY tough and easier said than done and all that, but b”h i’ve been there and done that and now off ALL my meds b”h! good luck with everything… and any questions, you know where to go!

    speaking for myself only.

i DO care about looks. ALOT. i always make an effort to look good, and i will NOT go out without makeup or without my hair done. i dress well, and i wear jewelry. and most people know when they look good…..yet, i’m still having a problem. and i think im gonna stop posting on this thread cuz its making me sound like i have nothing to do but complain which is REALLY not the case…. its just EXTREMELY frustrating….so thanx everyone for your comments, and i hope all you guys find the girl of your dreams and all you girls find the guy of your dreams really soon!

“Maybe I’m just naive or wtvr but how does one know if they’re not attractive? Meaning most people aren’t models but how do you know that your looks would be an issue?”

i dont know how i’m gonna sound by saying this, but i’m gonna say it anyway. i honestly dont think my looks WOULD be an issue. i usually look put together with my hair and makeup done. i make an effort to look good. the problem is that i’m not even given a CHANCE, because im not ultra skinny. and i’m NOT obese! (this is AFTER i lost about 25 lbs from when the origional post was posted…)

“Why can’t we just set up a shidduch system corresponding to weight?”

that would go over well. once we’re going that far, why dont we just set up ugly people with ugly people? one of the major problems with your suggestion is that heavy guys could and still are asking for super thin girls. i experianced it tonight. i was red a heavier guy who gave a streight out “no” when he heard i wasnt really thin. they ask for it and guess what? they get it also.

sorry popa, i find your post a bit offensive. the whole origional point of this thread was saying how hard it is for overweight girls….here you are proving the point that nobody even looks our way. i dont care if it was a joke, ur post belongs on a different thread. i think a lot of the problem is that people lump together the regular girls that went to regular schools and are looking for the regular learning guys. make sure the shadchanim know what special qualities set her APART from the rest of the lists of girls that they have.

bpt – in this case i was referring to what daas yochid was saying. its getting the guys to begin the dating process.

btguy – i would date a guy older then me, depending of course on how MUCH older….in fact, many times, the older the guy, the more mature he is and the bigger sense of responsiblity he has.

thanx everyone for your responses. some of you have mentioned that perhaps i’m looking for someone not for me, or beyond my reach. i dont think i am. i’m looking for a baal middos, a guy who will eventually be a good father or husband. i’m not looking for a long term learner and i would have no problem dating a working guy. i do have a job and $ coming in, and my parents will i’h do what they can to help me out. i would even have no problem dating a guy from a broken home, or a BT if i look into him and am satisfied with my research. i dont think im looking for anything thats not within my reach. it just makes no sense to me why i am not getting any suggestions if this is all i want.

corey- im totally open to your suggestion. how do i go about doing that?

popa – can you please translate what you wrote?

    hey princess,

so i gotta thank my mom BIG TIME for the weight loss. i know im spoiled, but she does ALL my food prep for me and without her help, it would NOT be possible. i also started excercising much more then i used to. the procedure was b”h okay and i dont need surgery as of now. the specialist put me on ANOTHER medication, and were hoping that will do the trick and there wont be any need for surgery. i’ve been struggling with pre-diabetes for over a year, but hopefully now with the weight loss, my #’s will be better! ๐Ÿ™‚ what about u? how u doin?

IMO you dont one day just decide to “be” a shadchan. you can set people up that you think would make a good match and get them to go out. eventually once you make a few shidduchim, your name will get out that you have experiance with people and you will have a title as “the shadchan.” as for not wasting your time, making shidduchim is extremely time consuming and more often then not yields disappointing results. (im speaking from experiance…) remember, chazal say that making a shidduch is as hard as the splitting of the sea. but for the one time that you succeed, its 100% worth it!! there is nothing like the nachas of watching two people that you thought of start building their home. HATZLACHA!

i skimmed through the diabetes thread and to be honest with you, it made me feel kinda stupid that i ever put up a thread called “prediabetics.” i mean, here you all are, dealing with so much more and all i can find to complain about is my stupid borderline bloodtest results!!!! but it made me appreciate all your kind words and encouragement so much more! thanx for everything and good luck with it all! you are in my prayers!

(as of now…) thanx for caring!

i’ve made one friends shidduch, two people that i set up are in middle of going out, and i’ve red tons. and im 20. and single. the above post is one thousand percent true. it’s no wonder that shidduchim are compared to splitting the sea. that said, i now have a lot more understanding towards the shadchanim and i’ts really great to see all the efforts they invest in their work. however, theres something i’d like to ask. i want to know why when i’ve gone to all the big shadchanim they all say “we will be in touch with you” and months and months go by and i never hear another word from them. granted, my parents are not rolling in the dough, and i may not be THE skinniest girl out there. but from the hundreds of boys you meet, you cant think of ONE? ONE boy that might be good for me? i know how hard it is. but i’ve been to countless shadchanim and i have yet to recieve a call from anyone.
