milhouse, the doctor does not give a heter to eat on Yom Kippur. Once he says that it is a sakonas nefoshas, it automatically becomes mutar.

Before giving the sick to eat, he should be reminded by ‘anyone’ that today is Yom Kippur.

In SA O’CH 618,1 above mentions even a non-jewish doctor (being an expert in the field) we can rely on. It does not mention anywhere a Rav.

milhouse, You seem to know everything better than anyone else, so your gaava causes you to know less. I saw the BHL and Rav Chaim Shlita interprets it as the camphor was placed in a mask to hold it, but the mask itself currently is certainly beneficial. In our shul in Staten Island, no mask, no attendance. If you want to be easily mekayem the mitzva of love you neighbor like yourself, wear a mask, so not to infect others.

To decide whether one can eat on Yom Kippur we don’t ask a Rav but the doctor and if he feels he needs to eat, he can override even 100 doctors. see SA O’CH 618,1

The reason I included the first line because it is dangerous and violates the mitzva of caring for your fellow man. It is one thing to endanger yourself but another thing to endanger others when you might infect other even being asymptomatic.

It says safek chashecha and safek eino chashecha, asks the Tosfas Chadashim on the mishnayus, isn’t it obvious from safek chashecha that it is a safek because of safek eino chashecha? He gives a brilliant answer. Safek chashecha is erev shabbos and safek eino chashecha is motzei shabbos where for each one we are concerned not to violate shabbos.

Syag, it says vatishlach es amosah, how did Bisye know that her hand will grow? They say she did her part and let Hashem do His part. Reb Moshe explains how to raise children, half should be perspiration, by doing your part and the other half inspiration, pray to Hashem that your actions should bear fruit. Do your part of hishtadlus to accomplish the desired results according to the Torah and then pray to Hashem to make it a reality.

They ask the question why does he get punished by Hashem looking away from him when he seems to do teshuva by saying that Hashem is not with me? Maybe, he gets punished because he says that things happen from nature and not from Hashem. Therefore, he is being turned over to nature by Hashem looking away from him.

2scents, did you listen to the Woodward tapes? Trump said one thing on tape and another in public.
He recognized the deadliness on the tape but down played it in public showing that he knew all the dangers on February 7th but he did not do anything about it then.

The litvishe and chasidim don’t wear a kitel but the ashkenazim who say maarovis, eat gebrochs and wear tefilin on chol hamoed (oberlander) do. A bar mitzva boy wears a talis. Maarovis is not said on shabbos because peoole needed candle light to read it, so they might have to bend it to fix it.

If someone says echta veashuv, echta veashuv why twice? They say once it is ok to say it to be mekayem the mitzva of teshuva (according to the Ramban above) but why twice, so it is held back for him the opportunity to do teshuva. Could be that if Hashem does not help, one cannot do teshuva, so this help is held back from him.

Be honest and tell the truth by not down playing its effect and don’t worry about panic as Kennedy at Missiles of October. Not create campaign get togethers without precautions. Not to open the economy and schools too early and not say it will go away by itself. Put more emphasis on testing to know whom to separate. Emphasize the wearing of masks by wearing it yourself as an example. How is it that we are worse off than any other country being 4% of the world’s population and 20+% of the deaths?

It says to do teshuva every end of the day, every end of the week, every end of the month or the end the year. The Dubner Magid sees it where you pay as you borrow or an installment plan making it easy to pay off the debt but if we accumulate our debt and pay off at one time by waiting to the last minute, it is not so easy to pay it off.

In our Shul in Staten Island it is forbidden to daven without a mask and social distancing is required. According to the Woodward tapes, Trump could have saved thousands by being honest early in February about the coronavirus and not down playing it for his fear of panic.

The pasuk above according to the Rabbenu Bachayeh describes the three ways of doing mitzvos, speech, thought and deed. Everything should turn towards the center, machshava, thought, otherwise we have a body without a soul.

I once heard that yirah is 1 and chochmah is 0. If you place a 1 before a 0, you can end up with a big number by recognizing the chochmah also, but 01 only recognizes the yirah but not the chochmah.

Therefore we should do teshuva in Elul. As the implication by the Rav Avudraham in Uvo letziyon goel ulshovei fesha leyaakov if we want the redemption, we should do teshuva. go’el ul’shovei makes Elul.
Elul is the time for teshuva and geulah.

We say in Neilah, you stretch your hand to the wicked. We can look at this where someone is sinking in quicksand and Hashem kavayochal stretches out his hand, telling him to hold on to His hand to be pulled out. The shudders of a store are on the verge of being closed and a person rushes, saying, don’t close it as I want to still buy something.
There is an argument between the Rambam and the Ramban if teshuva is a mitzva. The Rambam’s view that viduy is the mitzva. He holds that his circumstances will happen to lead him to teshuva. You can’t tell a person to do teshuva when he does not realize that he is doing something wrong, as a person does not see his own faults, whereas the Ramban holds that maybe, his circumstances whether richness or poverty should lead him to doing teshuva.

The Ben Ish Chai explains the accusatory angels by the passage Yomru hamoshlim bou cheshban, make an accounting of our deeds. What connection does it have to the city of Cheshban? The question is, how can we conquer Sichan when Maov was part of it? Once Sichan conquered Maov, Maov was absorbed in it and became null, a new nation. Similarly, when we do teshuva, we get transformed to a new person and the accusations don’t apply to us.

It says vahevel hevi gam ‘hu’ explains the Alshich Hakash that he sacrificed himself together with tbe korban similarly Adam Harishan sacrificed himself with the korban as the Ramban explains in Parashas Vayekro tbe purpose of a korban.

You know a PaperBridge falls apart as your arguments. All medical athorities recommend wearing a mask in order to protect others from being infected. It is not for yourself but it is for others. If you have the virus, you spreaded around in a crowded place. The Relublicans only care for themselves, so no mask is required.

Rosh Hashanah has three names, Rosh Hashanah, tbe new year, Yom Hazikoran, day of rememberance and Yom Teriah, a day of the shofar. There are three basic beliefs according to the Baal Haikorim, Believe in Hashem as our Master and King, believe in reward and punishment and that the Torah is from the heavens. The three names above reflect this. The new year we accept Hashem as Master and King, we remember historical accounts of reward and punishments and shofar reminds us of Kabolas Hatorah.

The Alshich Hakadosh uses the a similar mashel to expain why the Jews violated the greatest aveiros but they did not get punished until they left the learning of the Torah behind.
There was a violinist who offended the king and others but the king protected him because of his music. Once someone got so upset that he cut his hand off. Since the violinist could not entertain the king anymore, the king threw the book at him for all his previous offenses. As long as tbey learned Torah, the Torah protected them, but once they stopped learning, they were punished on everything they did. This is like Rav Itzele’s mashel above.
