    I have realized that the reason I post here might be due to wanting to get an ego boost

    And what is wrong with an ego boost? Humans naturally look to other humans for approval, and it feels good to be liked and respected. That is natural and normal, and I’m not aware of anything wrong with it.

    The mussar seforim discuss using this midda in good ways, and discuss suppressing it when it is harmful. I don’t see how this is a harmful way.

    At the time the Chayey odom lived, there were well established minhagim which held various amounts of hours, as the rema notes. It is completely probable that these are the minhagim he refers to. And that the history of their development is as the taz and shach describe.

    I note that according to no current minhag can you just bench and wash again, as is min hadin according to the rishonim of not eating in the same seudah. And therefore chayey odom does not consider the possibility that somebody might be matir neder and start just benching and not waiting at all. If, as you posit, chayey odom is referring to the alternative shittos in the din of the gemara–not the minhagim of his time–then he should discuss that as well, particularly since that is how the rema paskens min hadin.

    I see nothing in this which implies that anyone holds those minhagim are m’dina d’gemara.

    Start a kiruv organization that focuses only on boys. Boom! Just like that, the whole imaginary shidduch crisis is solved!

    My rosh yeshiva had a better idea. We could simply take the extra amount of girls each year, and kill them!

    See, if we kill them, we only take away their olam hazeh. But if we neglect to teach them torah, we take away their olam haboh. I’m sure they’d rather just lose the olam hazeh.

    Chadarim would close down if there were progressively less kids. In fact though, the principal theory for the shidduch crisis is that there are progressively more kids.

    In any event, to address OP: There is a numbers crisis, and there are more girls than guys. That doesn’t mean all the girls are open to dating all the guys though, for better or for worse. But nor does it mean all the guys are open to dating all the girls.

    oomis: It’s a bit of a mystery why we eat turkeys, since we stopped relying on the simanim several hundred years ago, and now require mesorah on it.

    The best answer I’ve seen is that turkeys just beat the clock and we found them and started eating them right before we decided to only use mesorah, and so therefore they had a mesorah from that time.

    You are incorrect for multiple reasons:

    1. If I give it to a yeshiva, and they spend the money (as they will), it will stimulate the economy just as well. (and yes, they also patronize many small businesses, and money is fungible).

    2. Amex does not care to stimulate the economy. They intend to incentivize stores to accept their card and for people to use their card, and to have good PR.

    3. This promotion is not even almost large enough to have any effect on the economy. The stimulus bill was like 1 billion times bigger than this, and may not even have had any effect.

    I’m a bit ambivalent about it.

    My intuition is that it should be avoided if there is an equal alternative, but not if it seems necessary.

    The fire grate burst into flames, lighting up the tunnel and lighting Vadim on fire. The travelers (there were two left, since Bodrick was still outside arguing with the head) leaped towards Vadim and beat him (pretending they were trying to put the fire out).

    Meanwhile, Bodrick and the head were in a full shouting match.

    Bodrick: Why did you sell me substandard beer?

    Head: ajwio nmmaolile lkmkmoioillioli

    Bodrick: That doesn’t change anything, he is MY son!

    Head: jalief mamioe mioi

    Bodrick, who had snuck up behind the innkeeper, swung a large battle ax and chopped off the innkeeper’s head.

    He ran from the tunnel carrying the head aloft. “Here!”, he shouted to the people outside, “I have slain the innkeeper.”

    The poritz’s men, who were waiting outside and had made the noises which had scared the travelers burst into loud guffaws. “Now, now,” they said…
