Akuperma: what you are espusing is very difficult, maybe harder than getting biglaw. There are no jobs waiting there for the skads of students who want to practice law in brooklyn.
November 4, 2013 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm in reply to: What time an 18-year-old bachur should be home motzei Shabbos? #985213popa_bar_abbaParticipantDepends what he’s doing. If he was out watching the game, it should be done by midnight. But if he’s out at a bar, it could be later.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat is a persimmon?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell done golfer
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAs young as possible. As we are reminded by NASI, people used to get married much younger and it was good for them
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou’ll never believe it. Now she made pancakes.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo, my wife is (popas bas ima)
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI ware a blak het becawse mi wyfe sez shee wull knot let mi gow tew shewl withowt won.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI said I could put them in my office, but she says what if I don’t get a job after I go to school, and therefore don’t have an office to put them up in???????
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell played writersoul. My wife says she’d give you an “aleph” if she was grading you.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWIY:
My wife wants to know why my gaava is more important than her happiness.
She says that would be the ultimate in gaava for me to think that.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantFor the sake of shalom bayis, I think you should hang it up.
HUH????????????????????????????????????????
I thought for the sake of shalom bayis you are supposed to put yerushalmi kugel on top of the potato kugel!!!
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWe’ve conclusively decided that there are very few students at Harvard these days who don’t have a BTL.
And those few are Touro grads.
I heard that last year there was even a Touro grad who turned down her acceptance to Harvard. Which clearly proves that Touro is better than Harvard.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’ve heard Wachtell Lipton is a good law firm. Probably if they’re good they must treat their employees well.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, I definitely have smicha. But, you folks know how much I don’t know and know, so not sure why it should matter to you.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantu’beis yosef lehava
popa_bar_abbaParticipantFirst of all, it is a real accredited degree, so don’t try arguing that it isn’t real. Second, they accept way more than 450. Closer to 800 I’d bet
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI heard anyone can get into harvard with a BTL. You just have to take some test. Basically no different from the regents.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantQuery why he is doing it.
October 31, 2013 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm in reply to: More leitzanus about ovrei aveirah. Mrs. Lopatin style. #984599popa_bar_abbaParticipantRational: The answer for the abusers, beit shemesh spitter, rock throwers, get refusers, is: I’m pretty sure I have made fun of them. They aren’t such a good target though since nobody agrees with them.
Soldier spitter: I agree with him.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantJust make it all up. Nobody will catch you, and even if someone does, you can just strenuously insist that you are correct and nobody will know who is correct. And even if they post real sources against you, nobody will care to look it up or even know how.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI don’t like to rely on heterim.
Besides, yehudi yakar, if you come on the bus to learn, where do you go to get to work!? (Or to play candy crush or angry birds)
October 31, 2013 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm in reply to: More leitzanus about ovrei aveirah. Mrs. Lopatin style. #984597popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m in favor of guilt by association. Particularly where said association is by choice. Particularly where one assumes the role of head of the association.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThanks for asking. I decided the commute is too long.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m sure I could if I studied. I have a friend who knew nothing about law and then one day he studied for the LSAT for like a month and he passed and got into law school. And not a state school like Penn–he got into Touro!
October 31, 2013 1:57 am at 1:57 am in reply to: More leitzanus about ovrei aveirah. Mrs. Lopatin style. #984593popa_bar_abbaParticipantVery thin.
But Sam, I don’t think this is close.
October 31, 2013 12:08 am at 12:08 am in reply to: More leitzanus about ovrei aveirah. Mrs. Lopatin style. #984591popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, read that entire article, and note that he is defining who is in his camp and who is not. He likes reform and conservative very much, but they are not in his camp. He defines them out of his camp. Said again, he defines them out of his camp.
That is, he defines them out of his camp!!!!!
Wait, you mean the exact same thing he is going all ape and righteously and and Rhodes Scholarly indignant at us for doing?
Yah.
Because he is as intellectually honest as he is orthodox.
What is your goal here? Are you just trying to make a funny joke? Make a joke about something else; you have plenty of material. Are you trying to make a serious critique of Chovevei? Then do it in a serious– and respectful– way.
The goal is to make fun of them. Because I find it entertaining and because it is a mitzva. And it is hard to beat an entertaining mitzva!
Why would I do it in a respectful way? I don’t respect them. And I’m not trying to convince them of anything–I’m just making fun of them. I don’t think they have enough good faith to be convinced of anything anyway.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt’s easier to just skip shas and make a siyum on shkalim when the cycle’s over.
Also, I didn’t do shabbos or brachos. So I need to do shkalim to make up for it.
Also, I didn’t finish psachim because I have the last amud left, and it wasn’t convenient for me to make a siyum then.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantShekalim is really hard.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe point of telling us he is italian is so that nobody would recommend talking behind his back about him in italian. Blazes, does every piece of a story have to be nitpicked?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m saying school matters. But then, I’m not smart enough for law school anyway. I certainly never plan on going. They wouldn’t even accept me. I don’t think I could get into even a bottom school.
October 30, 2013 12:31 pm at 12:31 pm in reply to: RCA Members to Open "Orthodox": It's your fault! #984165popa_bar_abbaParticipantV’gam ani mitztaref l’hanal,
Hatzair, hagoan, gadol b’torah u’vyirah u’bfrat ba’anivus, popa ibn abba
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, get a cat to eat the ants. And a dog to take care of the cat. And a stick…
popa_bar_abbaParticipantHeh heh agree with DY. The guy is dumb since the problem with extortion is you can always extort again.
Careful to not do actual legal extortion though. Google it.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThat is what a popa feeds you. You feed a popa spinach pie. And apple pie. And pumpkin pie.
V’yesh omrim blueberry muffins.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat do you feed a popa?
October 28, 2013 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm in reply to: Would you intervene or let nature run its course? #988514popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat’s a heron?
October 28, 2013 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm in reply to: Would you intervene or let nature run its course? #988513popa_bar_abbaParticipantBut what if the guy standing behind you wanted to save the poor hungry heron from you trying to starve it to death
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAs soon as I believe such a professional position exists.
Entry level professional positions don’t exist, and certainly without a relevant education.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantHas anyone here ever been a rebbe? What is the easiest way to become one. And please don’t say to go to the sorbonne or something stupid like that.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWiy: it must have beeb why. You can’t be fat unless you have more intake than output
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPopa bar abba in the gemara did not have big bones, he was just regular fat because he intaked more calories than he output
popa_bar_abbaParticipantObviously the one in boston is the real one. HTH
popa_bar_abbaParticipanthar nof is not in boston. HTH
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI agree with all the above posters. It boggles the mind that someone could be so insensitive as to put out benches that are not strong enough to hold a perfectly normal guest who so happens to have big bones.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantkaragnostic: Jump off a cliff. The gemara didn’t take its values from the people–that would negate the entire point of having a gemara.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantLast time I posted someone called my wife and complained.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPlease also post how much tzedaka you give.
I currently make absolutely nothing, and have not made a red cent in like a year and a half.
I’ve given a little bit of tzedaka.
I hope to start making lots and lots of money, starting tomorrow.

popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, it is a mitzva.
