It is never okay. If you have triplets, you need to hire help or ask everyone in the community to do you some chessed, or both.

As Syag pointed out, babies drown from this, even ignoring the emotional damage.

Thank you for making me look this up.

    (Quoting from the Siddur Vilna)

The Avudraham says that it is a zecher to Yetzias Mitzrayim.

The Machzor Vitri says that we say it because it was a custom in the Jewish communities of Rome, Spain, and those surrounding them, from the day we were exiled from Jerusalem until now, to sing it all year every day, and “Minhag avoseinu Torah hee”.

Also, we say this Shira which is about the fall of our enemies, and to praise the One Who does wonders, and to bless His name before and afer these praises (Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach.)

    Hope this helps!

This is all very interesting about the concept of Zivug and Sotah, I never realized they were connected.

I think there is a certain amount of hishtadlus, and it’s different for every person and every situation. Most of us are not on a level to sit in a cave and have fruit trees grow for us and a spring pop up near us.

That’s not a useful statistic because above 15 includes all people above 15 and as yehudayona pointed out, women live much longer which skews the ratio.

There are more men than women at birth, so looking at the numbers at birth is just as useless.

If you want a useful statistic, look at the male:female ratio at childbearing age – let’s say 15-50 years. Nearly all people who start families, marry within these years.

Even better, look at the dating ages of 20-35.

    Yes, privileged.

Popa: How much does each individual shidduch contribute to the shidduch crisis. Joke.

Syag: Do BTs count in the shidduch crisis.

Mod 42: Nobody will ever get married.

T613: A modest proposal in the Swiftian model that uses arbitrary assumptions and ultimately infers that the cost of leaving an individual girl single is $1000.

The Torah613Torah Socioeconomic Model For Shidduch Crisis Recovery: (TTSMFSCR for short)

I propose the “simcha rating”. The more you fix the shidduch crisis, the more simcha. And this should have economic implications.

Suppose the difference in years exactly correlates to the number of marriages. This means we can assign a “simcha rating” to every successful shidduch.

E.g. A 24 year old man marries an 19 year old woman: Their simcha rating -5, since his getting married resulted in 5 other girls NOT getting married.

Suppose a 20 year old man marries a 24 year old woman: +4.

This provides an easy way to solve the shidduch crisis: Compel every person who marries someone younger has to pay $1000 for every year the woman is younger to NASI. And NASI pays out $1000 per year for every year that the woman is older.

Perhaps Mr. Rechnitz would be willing to jumpstart this initiative?

The Goq: I really have no idea what people think. I am sure there are different opinions on the matter.

But generally, it’s not a good idea to share too much personal information with potential landlords. The impression the OP should be going for is “older single guy with a good job who will pay rent on time” vs. “older divorced man who probably can’t discipline the kids he might have partial custody of”. It could be the very same person, but which one is more likely to sound like a good tenant.

Rebyidd has it right – why are you mentioning it? Just say he’s single.

This shouldn’t be such a big issue, unless he’s looking for a specific type of apartment that usually is rented by families.

Seminary is very important for shidduchim, so that you can fill out that space on your resume. It is not so important in terms of actually getting married.

That’s why I went to seminary. So that people wouldn’t ask why I didn’t. It served its purpose.

It’s very easy to convince yourself that you’re doing what you’re doing to serve Hashem. That’s why we all have an obligation to learn Torah on our own, and also to have Rabbonim who have greater Rabbonim they consult with etc. And that’s why we have the Oral and Written Torah which tells us what to do.

Even the most misguided people don’t think of themselves as bad, but as misunderstood.

But I agree with your overall point.

That’s a very good point. I have a sibling who listens to classical music all the time. She says that certain composers are worse than others.

I personally find that Wagner, for example, often sounds destructive and crazy, whereas Haydn or Mozart are more uplifting. But maybe I’m wrong.

I think that the girls who believe in the shidduch crisis have a harder time getting married.

The proof is, that the older an unmarried girl is, the more likely she is to believe in the shidduch crisis.

    Popa, may I respectfully disagree.

Hashem created Chava after Adam was created. So Chava was younger than Adam.

So there is no shidduch crisis. Women were younger than men from the very beginning.
