Most languages with few exceptions are decended from or dialects of other languages

I am no linguist and I cant tell you the difference between a dialect and new language. Many western languages that we speak are called indo-european languages

The basically fall into the Romance Language (Decended from Latin which are Spanish, French Portguese. Romanian Ladino and smaller languages)

And the Germanic Lanaguages which are German, English, Dutch, Swedish, Norse, Yiddish and similar

Romance languages are somewhat mutually intellegible to each other, but the Germanic ones generally are not. A Spanish and Italian Speaker can usually understand each other, however an English and German speaker generally cannot.

However Yiddish / German speakers CAN understand each other.

Words , Lexicon and grammar do not come out of a vaccum.

In some cases yes, but after that semester you never have to take them again

I had some professors who welcomed debate.

I dont think you could debate Rav Kooks opinions in certain quarters

Here is the differnce between Chinuch and College

Lets say you are a Satmar and belive that maybe Rav Kook was correct in his thinking, You will likely be called chuptzadick , Apikoras or excommunicated for daring to question the Satmar Rebbe.

If you are in college and have more conservative views, you might not be looked at favoriably, but they will not excommunicate you . You will not be seen as chutzpadick or disrepectful toward the professors (assuming you disagree respectfully) etc

I heard a story of someone who from the age of 5 wanted to be a violin player. They spent all their free time practicing the violin. Everyone who knew this person said they were the best violin player they heard. At 16 this teen auditioned for the Juliard School. They did not make it and they were devestated and fell into the wrong crowd. Her mother found her and told her, Yes it was hard for her not to realize her dreams, but her mother told her there were lots of other things she could become.

He mother convinced her to go to college and become a accountant and she became a decent accountant, Ok she did not become a classical violinst but her mother realized she could become something else.

In the Charedi world its has become all about torah study. Unfortunatly not everyone has the intellect or the Stamina to learn 14-16 hours a day and of course not everyone can become the Gadol Hador. Classic Chassidism realized this and said you dont have to be a Talmid Chacham to be closer to Hashem.

Unfortunatly Today there is no “acceptable” alternate to torah study. Teens spend their time figuring out what they want to do with their lifes and figuring out things. Its part of growing up.

Wow you are doing the right things by sticking to your son. I know many in the Charedi world would throw him out.

I am against the ciggarettes, but it is keeping the lines of communication open. Hopefully you can explore things for him to do that are good. There is nothing wrong with being an accountant or being a brown noser in an office (like most people are)

Well, I guess I’m not one of those really smart people. I think the idea of a “marketplace of ideas” is entirely of western origin and has no source in Judaism. We believe in the concept of absolute wrong and absolute right, and one should not expose oneself or one’s children to ideas that are contrary to Torah and Daas Torah.

Chassidus was a new idea, and many were opposed to it like the Vilna Gaon. There was much opposition to it and many were put in Chareim

The idea of educated girls was also a radical idea and Sarah Schneier hit alot of opposition to the idea of Bais Yaakov and they were not even accepted in Hungary (They said the Poles needed it)

Torah and mitzvos protect us. We say it twice a day. Sure, bad things have happened while we had (some) Torah learning, but perhaps if we had less learning, they would’ve been worse.

How could things have been worse than the holocaust other than every jew wiped out.

It depends on the country in Europe. It is true they were “Less frummer” in Poland, but in Lithuanaia and Hungry they were “More frummer” and they were destroyed too.

And the least frum of all the US and England were totally spared.

I dont know how frum you are so I cant recommend neighborhoods.

There are nice houses in Fresh Meadows, Queens (and other parts of Eastern Queens)_ and on Willowbrook Staten Island with decent land for those cheap taxes. with plenty of restarants and shopping.

    How I am contradicting myself?

I think its a private matter about Rav Yosef’s eyes, now if he wants everyone to know the reason (I dont know or not if he does) thats another issue

In that thread I just posted public information anyone can google, Just like it acutally is no secret why rav Yosef wears the sunglasses, but the OP didnt know that. What if the OP had asked about something that was not well known and some people did know the answer. He is a public figure so its a bit harder to hide information about him

Lets make it simple If you had met Rav Yosef and could ask him directly

    Why do YOU wear Sunglasses?

If you think thats Kavod to do so then its ok to ask here , if you think its Chutzpadick to ask him directly than its Chutzpadick to ask about it here.

Would you consider it Ok to ask if a Gadol was in a wheelchair or R’L needed a Colostomy Bag?

I cerrtainly do not and I consider the sunglasses in the same league as the wheelchair or Colostomy Bag. medical issues are nobody business except the person and their immediate family.

So you agree there are limits on how much we should emulate Gadolim.

I am not discarding, One should certainly try to mimic the way a Gadol behaves to family , friends, Averchim, At the Shabbos table , During davening at a fundrasing dinner. Lots of circumstances

However if the Gadol walks 357 steps from his house to the Beis Medrash we dont need to follow that

So should one stand outside the bathroom door and count exactly how much time the Gadol spends there since he is not learning torah while there. Should one listen to him in the bathroom to know exactly what a Gadol does in a place where torah is not allowed.

If the Gadol needs to go to the Hospital for a procedure and will miss some shirum, do you have a right to know exactly what the Gadol is going through. Do you have a right to know exactly how the Gadol behaves during an invasive medical procedure.

Finally should one behave like Rav Cahana and do exactly what he did. I know what Rav told him and I know what his answer was. Should one behave exactly like Rav Cahana. None of us are on the Madraiga of Rav Cahana.

Kavod is not mimmicing every action a Gadol does, no matter how minute. In fact it shows a lack of Kavod. Invading a Gadols privacy shows a lack of Kavod

I heard the story about the Soup myself and it is lack of Kavod to count exactly how many spoons a Rav ate his soup. It IS a lack of Kavod to Rav Yosef to ask why he needs the glasses.

Do you think its Kavod to hide under the Gadols Bed like Rav Cahana hid under Ravs bed and see how to behave.

in reply to: Why Does Chacham Ovadia Wear Sunglasses? #1160578

    Does it really matter?

You dont have to emulate EVERYTHING a Gadol does.

I heard a story how a gadol wouldnt eat chicken and then all his talmidim wouldnt eat chicken either because he wouldnt eat it, One day someone asked him what is the reason he doesnt eat chicken and his answer was I dont like the taste of it.

But to answer your question, It is not a Tzniut or any other halachic reason, He has an issue with his eyes and he cant really be exposed to sunlite.

It seems there are plans to move the Charedi Populations to Vienna, because of the generous benefits there.

I dont know who are the gevrim who are supporting the Yeshivas, But I am sure at least some of them are either Dati Leumi or even Chilonim (Many non-relgious actually do support religious institutions). I doubt these supporters will be too happy if the charedim move to Vienna of all places (Its not so easier to emmigrate to US for Israeli non-Us citizens and benefits are likely to be cut here as well due to political climate)

Probably many charedim will be forced to sell their apartments in a fire sale in order to be able to afford to move to Vienna further improverting them (They will need the money to pay for plane tickets and real estate in Vienna) I doubt many geverim will pay the millions required for this mass exodus along with the money required to build the yeshiva directly.

Its one thing to complain , Its quite another to call them goyim , dogs and other names.

Its certainly fair to say that we disagree on the draft , Good torah jews do not go to the draft and we belive we should not be drafted

It’s really not that complicated: Bennet allied with Lapid, making it impossible for Netanyahu to form a coalition including the Chareidim. Case closed.

You missed the point why did Bennet feel he could make an alliance with Lapid instead of the charedi parties without destroying his own party. In Israel MK’s can leave their party and join other parties or their own party , It happens all the time.

It seems the Dati Leumi in israel would rather be with Chilonim than Charedim. HONESTLY ask yourself why. Saying they are Goyim and Hate torah is not truthful, The Dati Leumi are religious

Frankly, it wasn’t an issue that was related to the chareidi tzibbur. It was carried out by people who we know don’t listen to the gedolim, and was not sympathized with by anyone who does listen to the gedolim. We’ve been battling these sikrikim forever–they don’t care what we say.

How about kicking their kids out of the schools and kicking them out of every shul.

People did not defend it, but they didnt declared these people Reshaim like they do with many Dati Leumi Rabbis either.

Someone either sells to them or rents to them in RMS. Declare it assur to rent them an aparetment or sell them an apartment. I am sure if some Anti-religious Chiloni wanted to rent an apartment in RMS there would be mass upheval not to rent to them

I know lots of charedim. Not one would ever imagine that doing that was acceptable, much less mutar! Why didn’t the rabbis say something? The silence was deafening!!!

And Its time to end the excuses on it , Millions of dollars was spent on Asifas. Internet Bans, TV bands etc.

When Charedi Rabbis make a proclimation the Tzibur listens. They declare one must die or go to jail rather than go to the army and I am sure people will follow

How hard is it to say, We shall Banish the Sikarim who spit and curse 8 year old girls creating treamendous Chilul Hashem. They will not be allowed in our shuls , their children will not be allowed in our schools

The GOP recently comissioned a report and why they lost.

The haredim would be wise to act similary although not much research is given.

You do not win friends and influence people when some members of your community spit and taunt 8 year old girls and then claim they are not part of the community and nothing can be done. People are excommunited or put in Siruv for many offenses in the Charedi community including having a TV or using the internet. Surely you and excommunicatre and throw the children out of school of Sikirim who spit and taunt 8 year old girls.

You dont win friends when you call people Goyim, Haters of Torah etc who do not agree with you. Especially when their views are certainly within Halachic boundaries

The Charedim taking over the Marriages did not only did not stop non-kosher marriages , it made many people who could have married Kosher decide to be married in Cyrpus because they did not want the red tape. 20% of all marriages in Israel occur in Cyprus.

You dont take money from people and then act like you are doing a favor for them. Either dont take the money or at least be thankful for the generousity of other.

The Chief rabbi is for chilonim and deals with their religious issues and issues related to the government

Chessed organizations cannot raise the kinds of funds needed to feed large families

Go to KRM yourself and try buying for 8 kids. How much is the food $500 a week? More?

If you use $500 a week, thats $2000 a month

If you need for 1000 families , thats $2 Million dollars A MONTH. that is alot of money to raise

Only the government or by working can you raise that kind of funds.
