Many people use up their vacation days for YOM TOV, not even Chol Hamoed, just Yom Tom Alone
zahavasdadParticipantUS , Canadian and EU Citizens do not need a Visa if they visit any Schengen countries (Western European Countries part of the Schengen agreement)
Turkey (and Israel) gives US citizens visa upon arrival.
If you are an Isareli citizen its different and I dont know the Visa laws
About Safety for jews in Europe, Ive been there a few times including Germany and did not feel unsafe at all. In fact the first thing I saw in Germany was a Kosher food Machine.
zahavasdadParticipantThere will be change, there already is massive poverty in the Charedi communities.
As the Charedi communities become a larger and larger percentage of the population there will be fewer and fewer people earning money to pay the taxes that pay for yeshivas
The Charedim will be forced to go to work and when they realize they cant get very high paying jobs to support the large families because of limited education they will be forced to change their secular education bans
zahavasdadParticipantwhy settle for the absolute minimum amount of matzah needed to be yotzeh?
Because eating too much can make people sick. Especially eating large amounts in short periods of time
zahavasdadParticipantFellowships are private money not government money
And they just dont give it to you, you have to apply and fill out tons of paperwork to show why you deserve the money
zahavasdadParticipantThe Rabbi was on line in the Supermarket, Ahead of him was an eldery Lady who was obviously not well off.
She had only a few items as it was obvious as she could barely afford what was there. The items were mostly food except for the Bounty.
She then looked in her purse and looked at the items and mumbled (loudly enough for the Rabbi to hear) that Rabbi Blumenkratz said not to buy the Bounty and buy the Hemish Brand . She then got the more expensive Hemish brand of Paper Towels and removed FOOD from her order because she could not afford both.
Most people dont go around asking the Rav’s for every single product, they go by what the book says even if it means sacraficing food for some non-food Chumra
zahavasdadParticipantIC
As I understand it, welfare is a government subsidy for those who have no job.
I think we have a misunderstanding of the words then.
A stipend for learning (Or any other reason) from the government would be called Welfare or a handout here in the US
zahavasdadParticipantwhat if your fifteen year old is frying the noodles for the soup? They have to be drained right away, and she’s using one after the other? Old enough to cook, not old enough to realize that there could be a problem
We dont fry food in my house at all super unhealthy and usually makes me sick. I certainly never heard of anyone frying noodles before (Doesnt mean its not done, just never heard of it)
zahavasdadParticipantThe Paper towels was actually discussed here before.
http://theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/can-i-use-bounty-paper-towels
zahavasdadParticipantIts not a problem if you wash with it, If someone in your house eats Kitniyot (Like a Baby) it doesnt traif anything. You can clean the babies stuff in the sink
It might only be a problem if you soak the oil or something, but dont listen to me, Ask your Rov if its a Chumra or Halacha
zahavasdadParticipantAsk your Rav if using a Hemish brand instead of Bounty is a Chumra or Halacha (Assuming you dont use the first 3 sheets)
zahavasdadParticipantevery kid brings home these cardboard measuring things, thats what I am talking about
I dont know about any video from Oorah
zahavasdadParticipantHe hold not to buy the Bounty , Brawn or other regular brands and buy the Hemish brand instead
You can easily just not use the first 2 or 3 and forget about it
zahavasdadParticipantCan you give some examples of what you felt is being machmir in this sefer?
Paper Towels… He claims the glue that holds the towels to the cardboard is Kitniyot and should not be used
zahavasdadParticipantRegreso La Malvinas por Argentina!!!!
zahavasdadParticipantI am not poskinim here
But I do see the Sedar as a big problem comming up, Ive seen OTD people remark how they have “suffered” through a Sedar.
Perhaps this year maybe you can change your Sedar slightly. Maybe Speed up (and I mean SPEED UP) some parts and slow down others in order to get him to stay. Better to have a Speed Seder with him there and not complaining that any other option.
zahavasdadParticipantThe “Kazies” gets bigger and bigger every year. Those sheets they give out are the maximum possible size
You can eat alot less and still be Yotzei
zahavasdadParticipantIC
What do you call the money the government gives you, Its called Welfare in the US. Maybe you have a different word for it
zahavasdadParticipantWOW
How much time until the Army?
I suspect the army will straighten him out
zahavasdadParticipantThere is a Welfare Stipend of several thousand NIS per month (The exact amount is debaed anywhere from 2000-8000 NIS per month depending on who you ask)
zahavasdadParticipantThe Chazon Ish made a deal about the draft, I dont think he made a deal about Welfare Benefits
zahavasdadParticipantYou cant really make Quinoa into bread, but you CAN make POTATO BREAD
zahavasdadParticipantSometimes the difference between Torah is Purim Torah is los
zahavasdadParticipantThere is no law you have to give paid holidays. Most companies do pay for them as a benefit, but they dont have to
March 19, 2013 2:52 pm at 2:52 pm in reply to: 200,000,000 Spent Yearly by Patrons on Pesach Hotel Programs #938956zahavasdadParticipantI personally cannot afford to go away for Pesach, but I dont care if others do
Do you know many people make their Parnassah off these Peseach trips?
The spend the whole year planning and preparing for about 10 days. This is their yearly income
zahavasdadParticipantThe zionists caused the severe limitation of the ability of Jews to be allowed to go to Eretz Yisroel before the war. They also said they don’t want the old Jews from Europe to come to Palestine. And they said they preferred a cow in Palestine than a European Jew.
And, today, Israel is the most dangerous and deadly country for a Jew to live in.
Actually the truth is in many cases the Rabbanim refused to allow their flock to emigrate to Palestine before the 1937 White Paper made it illegal. They declared the land assur. Much like they declared going to America assur
zahavasdadParticipantDY
The Bain Hazmanim is getting shorter and shorter and more and more Rabbim are telling the Bochrim that Bain Hazmanin doesnt mean “vacation” and tell them to learn more and more during Bein Hazmanim.
Pretty soon Bein Hazmanim will be no different than a Zman
zahavasdadParticipantold man- Are you suggesting that we have a Mitzvah to kill anyone who is concurrent socially with Amalek?
What would you call the Nazis?
There is no evidence whatsover they are Amalek
zahavasdadParticipantThey would have a problem serving ONE DAY.
Forget about any propaganda, I suspect the leadership is afraid that many would leave the Charedi Lifestyle if given a choice. Normally a choice is not given but the army would allow a way out.
March 18, 2013 6:14 pm at 6:14 pm in reply to: Kosher L'Pesach Cigarettes: Is Something Wrong With This? #938070zahavasdadParticipantHealth issues aside, I think there is actual Chometz in the Ciggerettes, I think its the glue that holds the paper or something
zahavasdadParticipantFrom the Article
In a move that did not appear to earn sympathy points among fellow lawmakers
If I was the charedim, Id lay low for a while, not activily antagonize other parties or other populations in Israel and work to make themselves better liked among non-charedim. And dont say its impossible most Israelis have a positive view of Chabad
zahavasdadParticipantNew Roc City in New Rochelle
zahavasdadParticipantWith the comments here and treament of Dati-Leumi Rabbis in Israel its not shocking that the leadership is turning a deaf ear to the pleas of the Charedi community.
You cannot insult and defame a community and then expect them to come to your aid when your chips are down.
Perhaps if more civility and respect had occured the current result would never have happend and Bayit HaYudi would have teamed up with Shas and UTJ and not Yesh Atid
zahavasdadParticipantIt would be great if US funds are cut. When you are on the Dole, you are slave to the master who gives it to you, Cut the Handout and you are free to do what you want.
Nobody gives out free money for nothing
zahavasdadParticipantI dont think he cares what your community thinks, I know its sounds harsh, but its probably true.
zahavasdadParticipantIf you really want to know their home addresses and phone number, Just do what everyone else does, go to the Website Intelius and search for the people you want.
Its no big secret.
zahavasdadParticipantThe Dougies in Great Neck is still open
zahavasdadParticipantI dont know if the Gra used Machine Matzos or Not, but the Industrial Revolution Started in England in the Mid 1700’s so its not so far out of the question
March 17, 2013 12:23 pm at 12:23 pm in reply to: Jews Celebrating St. Patrick's Day (Parading)? #937643zahavasdadParticipantChaim Herzog former president of Israel was an Irishman, He was the son of the Chief Rabbi of Ireland
zahavasdadParticipantThere more I hear about it, the more I am convienced “Share the Burden” is not about the draft, but rather welfare burdens.
The Non-Charedim dont wont the Charedim in the Army, the army doesnt want them, they dont want to pay them the welfare benefits especially since many of them are struggling as well and can barely afford to support their own families.
By forcing the Chilonim to leave you will have a welfare state with no producers only takers. And the takers are already very poor and starvation is faily common. You cant have a Zebulin / Yissochar arrangement without Zebulin
zahavasdadParticipantGoogle is your friend. Write to them and ask for the Bracha

zahavasdadParticipantIts not a matter if your Rav has a problem, its a matter of wasting the Gedols time.
Maybe your question isnt important, but if 500 people felt the same way and asked the Gadol a similar question when it was easier to ask a local rabbi, the Gadol would have more time for more pressing issues.
OP
If you want a Bracha from a Gadol, Why not send a Kvitel to BMG and ask for a Bracha from Rav Kotler or Rav Newman
zahavasdadParticipantWIY
He asks his Rov first and his Rov can decide if its need to go to the Gadol or not.
zahavasdadParticipantI know your question is important to you, but many questions arent as difficult as you think and most Rabbanim can answer them.
Gedolim are expremly busy and are always either learning, fundraising or otherwise helping their fellow jews. Its best to minimize contact with them with other than most urgent Shailos
zahavasdadParticipantI am sure you trust the person and I am sure he belived he saw the Kaylim, But its really unlikely he did see the Keyllim from the Beis Hamingdush as opposed to Keylim for a Shul in Midevil times which is what it was likely to be
zahavasdadParticipantWhat is the difference between a Kreplach and a Raviloi or a Wonton?
zahavasdadParticipantZahavasdad, I met someone who claimed that he saw items from the Beis Hamikdash in the vatican.
Several problems with that, One he “Claimed” without proof I dont put any stock in this.
There are jewish items in the Vatican, Ive seen them myself, but many are mismarked and mistranslated. I am sure you have heard of the Famous Michaelangelo Statue of Moses (Its not in the Vatican, but near the Colesseum) where Michaelangelo thought Moses had horns and made a scuplture of him with horns.
The Terms THE Jewish Temple (Beis Hamingdosh) and FROM a Jewish Temple (could be any shul) are easy to mistake
zahavasdadParticipantBear was espousing the Satmar/Eidah HaChareidis view that the existence of the secular State of Israel is inherently a chillul Hashem. Therefore, it would be preferable for the state not to exist. However, neither Satmar nor the Eidah supports actively trying to “destroy” the state. Only Neturi Karta does that.
I hope the mods let this question though, Its not meant to be attack alhough it might be taken as such
Geting involved with elections is a major disruptment especially from non citizens. We do not tolerate it here. So why should the Israelis tolerate it. Certainly there were many reports that some election events were going to happend to prevent voting while you might not think they were all true, With all the reports some were likely true.
zahavasdadParticipantapushtayid: he meant that since it is a food which isn’t asoiciated with yidden. I am not saying that they all said not to eat it but when they were talking about the braocha they felt compelled to give an intro that implied it is really a food we shouldn’t be eating for hashkafa reasons
Id love to ask them should we be eating “Arab” food for hashkafa reasons?
zahavasdadParticipantWhile many belive the Vatican has artifacts from he Beis Hamigdosh, its very unlikely that they do. They do have other relics though from afterwards
The city of Rome was abandoned by Emperor Constatine and left to its own defenses was sacked many times most famously by the Vandals and Visigoth. Its likely that during one of these sackings, the artifacts were taken and melted by the Barbarians. The Colesseum itself is only about 20% original as most of it was ransacked as well
