Anyone who testifies against another jew in a non-jewish court and sends another jew to prison has a din of a moser and is chayiv misa.

So if you saw someone abuse a child and testified against the abuser in court, you are chayiv misa according to this “Sheeta”

Vouchers are illegal in NY because of Blaine amendments in the NY constitution, They wanted to repeal this law and they found it was almost impossible so that the GOP is for vouchers in NY is pointless.

I said the agudah was against the marriage ruling, but they did not oppose it like they should have, they even met with Christine Quinn on several occasions.

You are correct that private school kids save the district money, however the issue with East Ramapo is Special Ed and regular parents with special ed kids just send them to public school which can educate them cheaper than private schools. In East Ramapo parents dont want their kids in the public school (Except Kiryat Joel) so the district sends them to more expensive private schools in essense cancelling out the savings as special ed costs an insane amount of money.

Private schools are a hot potato for both parties, the dems because of the teachers unions and many minories who are the base of the party. The GOP generally favors smaller government and lower taxes and therefore would not be open to give them money

When the marriage law was changed in NY to allow “other” types of marriages. Why do you think the Agudah and others did not fight hard to stop it? They accepted their own “PorK’ and were told if you oppose the changing of the marriage law, you will lose your “Pork” and they had to back down, yes they opposed, but they didnt oppose as loud as they could have

Maybe what’ll happen is the public school parents will get so frustrated that they’ll move out of town (i.e. rent basements in other towns) and the public school student body will go down to a small number and the local BOE will save hundreds of millions from having less public school kids.

This is what many are hoping for. thanks for posting it

You want the laws changed to basically serve one district. We do not live in a dictatorship, the legislator branch needs to change these laws on a consensus vote. Other legislators who live in other districts will want something for their vote. They are not giving you their vote for nothing.

What are you going to offer a legislator from Utica, NY for his vote on changing the distribution formula for East Ramapo? What are you going to offer a Legislator from Jersey City in order to support changing the formula for Lakewood?

And before you say how important the Jewish Vote is, there are other consitutancies who are also important and want a different result. The leaders take these things into account. The latino vote is large too and the elected officials want their vote too. This is how it works in our governmental system

And no they dont care about Lakewood or East Ramapo, they answer to their own consituants not yours

If Lakewood gets more state aid, then other districts will also want state aid and thats what some dont seem to get. Lakewood will want and get, then Camdem, Newark, Trenton and other districts will also want as well. So for every dollar Lakewood gets, NJ would have to pay out $5 or more.

And dont say only Lakewood should get, thats not how politics works. The aid will have to be voted on in the state legislature and to get some votes they will have give them too and there are members of the legislature who will not vote for any state aid strictly on principle no matter who asks

I think you can use your imagination. But in something related, many many years ago, there were two men who were chavrusas, who learned at home, and the wife was always around and in the end she divorced her husband, the chavrusa divorced his wife and they married each other. If your imagination doesn’t suggest anything, would you want your wife to get too familiar with your friend?

I am sure this does happen , and probably happend more than once, but how about the following could also happen. Shabbos can be long and while married people get along, sometimes cabin fever sets in and they start to get mad and fighting with each other (Especially on a long winter night or a long summer day). Having other people over can calm this tension.

At least you admitted the political calculus involved here. Which is why I dont think the money is coming any time soon and the district will have to solve the problem on its own.

Special ed is mandated, however sending the special ed kids to schools in Kiryat Joel is NOT which costs more money rather than educatating them in Monsey

The monitor will find these things and make them keep them in Monsey at a lower cost (These costs have been documented). You take the money they will do these things. There might also be places that bill the district at a higher than customary costs and the monitor will eliminate those too.

There is alot of fat in mandated services and they will be eliminated before the money is given.

You can argue with me all you want, but they are not giving you the money for free. There will be a cost. The cost could be loss of board control, It could be a required tax increase for increase in state Aid. It could be mandatory cuts in some of the private school aid. But it will be something and it will be tough love.

You dont seem to understand the use of the word cost here. The word cost here is not nessasirly about money, its about what they will expect in return in order to give the money.

It doesnt matter what you think of me, that is the politics of the state. It very well might be some elected officials care about the voting bloc, but others do not . And there are others who would agree to it, if they get a piece of the pie turning off those who might agree to it.

As long as there is no school monitor with veto power over the board, the board can cut public school services to balance the budget

There are things they can cut and things they cant cut. If something is madated by the state like Math, Science, English , GYM (Yes Gym is madated)

They can cut things like band , and intermural sports which are not mandated.

What some here dont seem to get is free public school education is not only the laws in the US , it is the custom as well. You cannot eliminate it or make it barebones because you dont use it. Eldery and childless people are required to pay taxes for it even though they dont have kids

For most people an office environment is the only place they will meet people of various types and you really have to be careful how you tread.

I have a friend who worked with an “Alternative Lifestyle” person and non-verbally showed their disdain , the person complained and they were almost fired but had to take a sensitivity training class

I heard another story of someone who mocked his co-workers buddah in his own cubicle and also almost got in trouble as not being respectful of others. You are not allowed to preach about Buddah in the office, but you are not allowed to be mocked for it either. Same as a person supposedly born on December 25. A person can have a cross in their cubicle, but they cannot offer to “save” you.

Dealing with members of the opposite gender is a very fine line. While some might consider you name shaking their hand or avoidance of small talk as perfectly OK, others might take it very differently especially if they might be your superior or underling and might think you are not treating them fairly especially if you shake another males hand or engage in small talk with the men and not the women.

#2 is what the people of East Ramapo want to happen and think thats what will happen

They dont seem to realize it will come at a cost, It might even come at a cost of a combination of #1 and #2. Like they have to raise taxes $1 for every $1 in government aid. It might come at the cost of loss of control of school board (I think this happend in Roosevelt) . And like I said , If East Ramapo gets a bailout , others will want one too costing the state more money so its not as easy as they want. Its very unlikely due to politics of the entire state that #2 will occur unconditionally

in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157176
    zahavasdad
    Participant

There are basically only 4 real exit strategies

    1) Raise taxes , however the majority of the people who do not use public school are against this and it will only happen if forced

    2) Government bailout , could happen, but unlikely as there are other districts throughout the state that have budget issues and they would expect a bailout too. It would set a bad precedent from a state level. There are districts for example that most of the homeowners are either seasonal people (Like the Hamptons) or people without kids like eldery and they could say, we dont want to pay, state bail us out

    3) District merging . Merge East Ramapo with a neighboring district , this would work for a while, except the neighboring districts would likely reject as they would be afraid of being outnumbered and out voted and it would become another East Ramapo and the larger district would have the same issues over again.

    4) Cut most private school spending, Public vs Private school spending is not equal in the public eyes. People on the greater level do not equate money spent for private schools vs money spend for public schools even if the public school spending isnt mandatory. People would more support a football team or AP classes for the public schools than busing to yeshivas. That is just the way it is, its not only the law its the culture of the society. Private school spending will get cut first. The monitor and the state will demand it before any bailout. People feel private schools are a choice and there is no reason for taxpayers (On the state level) to pay for it

Unfortunatly most history classes in seminaries would not tell the students that the Bund was the most popular philosophy in Pre-War Poland. It was shocking when I first heard it (I never even heard of the Bund) and I am sure its shocking to many here who havent heard of this before (if they even heard of the Bund).

In the Smaller Shtelts, most people were still relgious. These changes occured in the big cities like Warsaw, Vilna and Krakow.

And BTW Zionism had actually one of the smallest followings of any pre-war philosophy. Most people were bundists and then alot of the rest were religous who were also anti-zionistic.

From Wikipedia..About the Bund electoral results. These numbers do not include non-relgious zionism or other non-relgious groups

In December 1938 and January 1939, at the last Polish municipal elections before the start of the Second World War, the Bund received the largest segment of the Jewish vote. In 89 towns, one-third elected Bund majorities.[15] [16] [10]

After its municipal electoral successes in December 1938 and January 1939, the Bund hoped for a breakthrough at the parliamentary elections due in September 1939, but these were de facto cancelled by the German-Soviet invasion.[10]

Some authors have stated that only about 10% of Polish Jews during the interwar period could be considered “assimilated” while more than 80% could be readily recognized as Jewish

Being non-religious is not the same as assimilationist. the Bund were non-relgious and probably anti-relgious, but they were not assimaltionist.

The non-relgious jews in poland Spoke Yiddish, married among themselves , but also engaged in Jewish culture like jewish literature, Jewish theater, jewish Orchestras and other jewish cultural things.

An Assimated jew would be someone likely married to a non-jew and not engaging in anything jewish except maybe a last name (if even that)

Yes it says East Ramapo received about $50 Million in aid which is about what other districts go. They should get similar amounts to what other districts of the same size receive. I have no problem with East Ramapo getting similar amounts to what other similar sized districts get. They should not get more that what other similar sized districts get.

Ive been to Prague and Budapest and the largest synagouges there are not orthodox. The largest and most beautiful synangouge in Prague is not the Altaneushul (Maharal Shul) but rather the Reform Spanish Synanoguge

Most people who write history are biased, and they will usually write their accounts from their own perspective and frum authors are not exempt.

One has to understand why jews were into =isms prior to WW II and zionism was not even near to the most popular (yet many frum authors seem to harp on this when Bundism which was secular socialism seems to be omitted and it was the most popular philosophy) , One also has to understand why in the Ashkenzic world the word of the local Rav was not obeyed . Why were jews attracted to the haskallah , Communism , Bundism and moving to the USA. These questions are very important to understanding pre-war Europe.

There is a video on youtube of Munkatch from 1933. It is very surprising, its just scenes from Munkatch. It opens with the wedding of the Munkatcher Rebbe and he is giving a dvar torah on the evils of America. Then there is a scene of people buying books. The 3rd scene is a bunch of children singing Hatikva with the original lyrics, its depressing since you know all these children will be killed in about 10 years and the final scene is a bunch of people dancing the Hora (Mixed Dancing).
