More relevant now as American Pharoah just won the triple crown and his owners are frum. (They are Egyptian Jews)

They rented an RV and camped out by Belmont Park so they could see the race.

It seems that either the owners or the jockey went to the Ohel and also got a blessing from a Chabad Rabbi

Is there is a difference between money gotten from working on Shabbos, Money obtained by casino (The richest Jew has gotten his money from Casinos) or money from Money Laundering or Drug Dealing?

Just remember the first Song the couples march down after a chuppah is The Final Countdown by Europe

The Song Hashem Melech, Hashem Yim loch Lolam Voed is Vivir Mi Vida by Mark Anthony

The Song Asher Borach Sasoon V’Simcha is Down under by Men At Work

So you are very likely already listening to “Goyish Music”

The Mishna Berura (53:82) says that only their religious tunes are prohibited.

The most well known tune for Maoz Tzur was a midevil Germanic church hymn

Do as I say, not do as I do

Houses in Brooklyn usually costs more than 5 Towns or Teaneck, the taxes are higher in the 5 towns or Teaneck than Brooklyn. Brooklyn is considered more deseriable than 5 towns or Teaneck. However in Monsey area the houses cost similar to Teaneck or 5 towns and the taxes are similar amounts

Houses in Brooklyn can easily cost over $1 Million dollars especially in Borough Park. You ask anyone outside of NY and they will tell you how Gashmius that is (They wont use the word Gashmius, but they will use the english equivelent)

You can live other places for alot cheaper

Most (Not All, but most) people who give Tochacha are not giving it to defend the torah, but rather out of their own need to put down others and lord over others. They get some sort of thrill by doing it.

And because most are doing it for the wrong reason, it hinders those who are doing it for the right reason

JT, in what country are there “basically no non-kosher animals?”

I think he was referring to milk, In the US its almost impossible to mix cows milk with another animal milk from the time of milking until the time it gets to someones table.. If you have ever have been to a dairy farm you would see thats its impossible to put milk from a non-kosher animal in cows milk

There is no Mitzvah to live like a Pauper if you can afford better and in fact many say you should live better.

For the simple fact If one say, Well I had an inexpensive wedding with only 50 people with a shmogasboard, why should I contribute to Chanasas Kallah for a big fancy wedding, simpler weddings shoudl suffice.

or I if I can eat day old hard stale bread so can the Annim and they deserve less tzdakeh because they are eating “too fancy”

Reading the menu made me feel sick,

I never said I wanted to eat it, I actually refuse to eat Foie Gros and I have no desire to eat locusts. But who am I to tell someone else to eat

I cant stand Gefilte Fish, Chopper Liver or Borscht and Pitcha is nausiating and I have friends who refuse to eat Sushi as they think its disgusting. Food is a very personal thing and if you want to eat a Locust Genzenda Heh and if you want to eat Chopped Live go ahead, jsut dont offer me any. Its disgusting

Mesilas Yesharim is not a book of Halacha like the Shulhan Aruch.

Im not sure where its quoted, but If a rich man decides he wants to only eat old hard bread and water, you are supposed to make them eat the better stuff otherwise he wont have any pity for the poor and be stingy on his tzdekah(He will say things like, If I can eat hard moldy bread, so can the poor)

You are getting sidetracked. My gripe is not about expansions, was about the idea of the “halachic dinner” being a seudas mitzvah of kedusha, tahara and talmud torah when really its just an excuse for people to satisfy their yetzer hara for exotic delicacies.

There is no such thing as a “Yetza Hora for exotic delacies” If its Kosher its Kosher and a Mitzvah to eat it, If its treif, then its an Averah to eat it. In the case of the Locusts, If your Rav or Mesorah hold its ok, then its a mitzvah to eat it and if not then an averiah to eat it.

ANyone can call anything an “Exotic delacy” Ive heard sushi called that by some

One is not required to eat a cheaper food in order to give more to Tzdekah.

One is also allowed to choose which Tzdekah he wishes to give.

The locusts should be a problem for those who don’t have a mesorah on it.

When it comes to Kashruth,w e generally hold that if one frum jew holds something is Kosher, you can eat it. There are a few animals which arent regulary eaten (Like a Giraffe)

The issue with locusts is most of us are disgusted by it and I think I heard somewhere that is the real issue. Eating something we are disgusted by.

I was recently in a section of Jerusalem, not sure which but it was the neighborhood after Meah Shearim. Unlike Meah Sharim there werent any tourists but the whole neighborhood was charedi and we were the only non-charedi there (We were visting a relative there)

While waiting for the bus back to the hotel, Some Charedi man started yelling at my wife who was dressed tzniut, I dont know exactly what he was mumblimg , but I did hear this is Jerusalem and not America and it was quite clear he was trying to rattle us. And it was quite clear from his gestures he was trying to give “Chizuk”

One of the reasons we have such diseases like Tay Sachs and that we need that organization that does genetic testing is because people dont want to marry outside their group. If a Ashkenaz marries a Sefard Tay sachs is highly unlikely

In California, with the current drought, many are showering once a week. That is sufficient for most people. It’s also what was common before running water – and our zaidas were fine.

Most of us dont live in California, for those of us who live elsewhere this would be a huge chilul hashem. Many dont like us already, we dont need to give them another reason to do so and think that jews are unhygenic and dirty.

1.I knew a rav (he has since passed on) who was from Galicia. He said that unlike in Lithuania, which was always poor, Galicia was well off as it had oil (also textile factories). However, the economic boycott of the ’30s wiped out many Jews.

My family was all from Galicia and they all came (From all sides) to America because they were so poor and needed income . They were not rich in Galacia

I believe it is dated in May 1940. But even in 1939 (the year WWII broke out) the footsteps of war were loud and clear. They weren’t considering to move talmidei yeshiva halfway across the globe to find a more prosperous lifestyle. He is saying that a ???? ??????? is worse than a ???? ??????

1940 is not 1948 , or even 1945, there is a big differnce between 1940 and 1945 and beyond

With all due respect to Rav Wasserman, I doubt he thought of the idea of Gas Chambers, He likely felt there would just be anti-semitism perhaps severe Anti-Semitism. In that context his statements make sense

But like almost everyone else including people who were in the Ghettos they could not fathom the idea of mass executions. I doubt he would have chosen the choice of mass executions.

The year 1948 or 2015 or whatever in the secular calender means absoultly nothing. It doesnt count for anything. According to the NT a birth occured when Herod was King of Judea and Herod died in 4 Bce so any gemetria between jewish 1948 and secular 1948 means nothing

If you use you same logic Chaim Rumkowski the head of the Judenraat in Lodz “saved” 750 jews. He was able to stall final liqudation of the ghetto until the summer of 1944 and 750 jews remained when the russians liberated the city in January 1944.

Kasner was a useful idiot for Eichman who was hopping that if he appeared to try to help save some jews he might not get executed after the war (The allies promised this)

Kasner in his defense with paying ranson was no differnet that the “Blood for trucks” idea in some charedi circles. The Nazis were not interested in saving jews, they only wanted the money from American jews. The Nazis generally were not bribeable, jews paid them the bribes and the Nazis killed them anyway.

Brisk has very similar anti-Zionism to Satmar.

Most (If not all) Gedolim before the war forbid people from going to the US or Palestine (and also Canada and the United Kingdom) calling them all spiritual wastelands, however after the war the ones who survived did go to those places so any statement by anyone before the war who did not survive it needs to be taken into context. I cant say 100% but I can say 99% that one who say things before the war and did not survive it likely would have changed their minds
