Is anyone familiar with the old game “Overturn” by Pressman. Its sort of like Othello, with forming words. Is there anything similar that can be played on Shabbos, thats an adult word game played on a board, that doesnt require score-keeping? TIA

Its years later. Does anyone have names and numbers of Shadchanim dealing with Chassidish/Heimish divorced people?

    Neville ChaimBerlin:

My friend, to my knowledge “The Shidduch Crisis” is loosely defined as the traumatic situation the Orthodox community is experiencing with a huge number of singles who havent found their Zivugim, that they are desperately yearning for, and afaik, this term is not related to the age gap issue, even though its a contributing factor.
When Shadchanim experience burnout as a result of not being treated well and feeling totally deflated after going to a wedding with hundreds of options at a Shmorg fit for royalty, and yet coming home empty-handed, this clearly has an effect on the Shidduch crisis (the huge number of singles who are yearning to get married).

Less Shadchanim + making less attempts = less singles getting married.

“AZOI.IS: you seem to have experienced brokering a shidduch and then not getting paid. Was this one isolated event, or does this happen often? By the way, you can take them to a din torah.”

People who clearly dont have extra money, who have made plain weddings, have given me $100 and I was very ok with that.
After going to a very grand, palatial affair, getting nothing, hurts.

“The shidduch crisis (if using the term properly) is a mathematical certainty. You could pay shadchans a million dollars a second and it wouldn’t change anything as long as they keep perpetuating a 4-5 year age gap between males and females.”

False! You can totally eliminate the 4-5 year age gap, and with no one interested in making the introductions, because of shabby treatment, the miserable painful Shidduch crisis will blossom.

With Shadchanim having bills to pay, how does one deal with parents who paid for a Shmorg that offered 100 hot dishes and 100 cold dishes, worthy of a palace feast, but not a penny for the Shadchan? If this doesnt cause Shadchan burnout, what does?

“The evidence of a corrupt system is that people ask questions like this.”

Not many people can afford to work for free. Those who can afford to work for free are too busy shopping, redecorating and vacationing. They have no time or energy to be involved in Shidduchim.

B”H more than a thousand parents who have been trained with the sweetness of the “Le’ehov Oso B’yoser” approach to OTD children, by R’ Avi Fishoff with his Twisted Parenting M’halach, with the blessings of Gdolim worldwide, have seen huge miracles and have not experienced even ONE fatal drug overdose or suicide.

Can this be a coincidence? Doubtful.

Its a matter of whether one aims for success or failure.

Can anyone post an updated list, if there is one, of Shadchanim who deal with “Black Hat” boys who are learning and going to college, in the New York area?

Otherwise any names and numbers of current Shadchanim will be appreciated. Thanks.

I think some shadchanim had objected to having their numbers posted in the past

Ive read about “Twisted Parenting” recommending buying jeans, etc for OTD guys.

What does “Twisted Parenting” recommend buying for OTD girls? Jeans also? If yes, how far does “Twisted Parenting” go in its suggestions that go against what is regarded as frum halachic observance for these special cases, to achieve the desired goals?

This is really amazing that Gdolim are on board with this! Very very impressive.

Can someone who is familiar with Twisted Parenting tell me how the OTD child feels more loved buy their parents, when the parents go out and buy jeans for them, etc as Twisted Parents recommends, if the child knows the parents are following a funny rule-book to get the OTD child back, and not because the parents have a new way of looking at the world? The OTD child knows the underlying reason.

All those believing that concessions to Arabs have a chance of leading to peace, need only to listen to Dennis Prager’s 5 minute history lesson easily found as a video clip, with a simple search.

They (those believing that concessions to Arabs have a chance of leading to peace) havent heard this 5 minute history lesson, they arent going to listen to it now, nor will they listen to it at any time in the future. If they would, it will show them up for not being “in touch”.

Dennis Prager mentions, among other very valid points, how can you make peace with enemies whose goal in life is to destroy every remembrance of Israel, as heard on their programs, in all Arab countries, every day?

Our options are clear- we cant give anything up, we’ll only shed more blood, not less.

No guarantees in life ever, but why rush to get married before youre independent and can support yourself? Theres so many serious Kollel boys, you will surely be able to find one when youre independent too.

The Torah-Kollel lifestyle is one that teaches us that love comes after marriage, and what anyone feels before marriage isnt the real thing. Real love is something that is born at marriage, and builds and gets greater after years of devotion to one another.

Seems from the posts here that no one has seen devastation and despair in couples who were starry eyed and thought they could live the Kollel life without generous wealthy parents. Unfortunately I have seen it a lot. Some make the best of the struggle, in differing degrees, some are unhappy throughout their lives and raise children in an UNHAPPY Torah-dig home.

    As stated here:

“To really be success in politics, you have to sell your soul to a large degree. You have to be very skilled to minimize that problem, yet it’s hard to get anywhere in politics if you don’t go along with the wishes of your party’s leadership.”

Once elected you have to tow the party line or you dont survive in politics.

Anyone elected in the big cities with a large frum population, is generally a Democrat, or a pareve Republican, with a debt to pay and a need to side with and support policies against the Torah, OR hes out 123. Its lose/lose. Either the Torah loses, or the candidate loses.

“When it comes to frum politicians, it boils down to one question: does he listen to da’as Torah. If he does, he won’t get caught involved in a scandal, and if he doesn’t, what’s the advantage of a frum politician?”

    1. Id agree if Id know that “Daas Torah” that the politician listens to, is aware of everything the politician does behind closed doors. Unfortunately “Daas Torah” these days are not on that Madraiga.

    2. Often the greatest of “Daas Torah” support candidates who have goals opposing Torah and Halacha and warns not to vote for those who share our goals, and gives blessings for victory to candidates with totally opposing goals. Historically, the frummest communities of NYC vote in candidates with totally opposing views, on very important issues.

    IF, THEN, AND.

Everyone at the party writes a few complete sentences, each sentence with one If, one Then, and one And.

All the Ifs get collected and mixed up, same with all the Thens, and all the Ands, keeping the ifs thens and ands separate, and you end up with three piles. Better if you mark the wrong side of the paper with if then and and, to identify it easily from the wrong side. Someone chooses one if, one then and one and, and you go around the table reading the new sentence. Some are really funny.

    For instance:

    If I was a millionaire

Then my mother wouldnt talk to me any more

And Id eat steak for breakfast…

Sorry, I couldnt remember the really funny ones. The above was for example.

WHY TIE THE HOLOCAUST TO THE HOUSING CRISIS?

Im well aware of some of Hikind’s efforts and successes over the years, but those in the know know, we’ve witnessed 30+ years of his goal of milking his job for hi$ benefit Big-Time, where merit has always taken a back seat to fund$ gained!

This film/advertisement is ONE BIG Caller mistake! Nachman Caller has a sterling reputation as a uniquely brilliant, honest, hard-working, caring, sensitive lawyer, so why use the saddest of our saddest era in recent history, the Holocaust, for shock value? This is about as bad as the Hikind team telling people theres only one worthy candidate. MY FOOT!

Has Hikind even made any serious efforts?

“How do people even breathe in Boro Park?”

As opposed to breathing car fumes, I guess?

I had BP friends who tried living in Monsey for a year. They came running back to BP. They said they had a beautiful home but spent most of their waking hours in their car, the husband commuting, the wife carpooling and taking the kids places. In BP you can actually let older kids walk in the street, from one side of BP to another, by themselves, while the parents do other things.

While I like his outspokenness for Israel, one of his most successful projects has C L E A R L Y been a$$orted fund raising tactics to fill his election coffers, and I mean a$$orted.

If the train tracks location works, that wouldnt overcrowd Boro park, it will just extend the lines of Boro Park, as we know it. Theres potential for more parking spaces, not less. What do we have in those locations now? Lots of garbage and weeds! Its about time!

Please offer locations less than an hours drive from Boro Park, that are safe neighborhoods, where rents are affordable, that religious newlywed couples can move to.

Kensington is getting crowded too. Lakewood is much too far, it takes 1 1/2 hours each way, with the slightest bit of traffic, and is an expensive commute, with less jobs nearby, and is getting crowded too.

Theres also another issue for Chassidim who want to daven with their Rebbe and want to send their kids to the schools of their Chassidus.

But I think the special programming, special davening, Motzei Shabbos Ruach, and the fact that the whole community was involved together made it even more meaningful. Potential BTs might not click with most BP Shuls regular goings on, with Rebbes speaking in Yiddish, etc. Some of the mostly Chassidish Shuls in BP would have to have English speakers, more in tune with potential BTs.
