The Coffee Room is the best, and though I’d rather say that I’m not addicted (like any profesh addict), I think I truly am. Well, I must say, that IMHO it’s WAY better than any other shtus that one may be addicted to on the internet… πŸ˜€

Hmmm, thats an interesting one brotherofours, I’d be interested if someone answered. That would include all songs in music books when you’re learning how to play an instrument, such as Bach, Beethoven and Suzuki.

Also, I’d like to know what is the purpose of taking such very inappropriate sonds and putting Jewish words to it? It doesn’t seem to fit.

Sometimes when a CD is playing, I don’t even know that a tune to a Jewish song is really from somewhere goyish, and someone walks into the room and tells asks me why I’m listening to “such” music, before they realise that it’s actually not the song that they thought it was. The thought disgusts me- I don’t know what the original songs were, but when you can hear just the music, it could be sort of maras ayin, dont you think?

OK, since I’m not yet in the stage of life where I’m thinking about the price of living (although, now that you meantion it, it seems pretty scary), it may not be fair to write this; but I’ve always been taught and therefore believe that Hashem doesn’t give someone a nisayon greater than they can handle.

Well, although that’s all fine and dandy in theory, It sounds very hard to understand in practice…

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. So, it seems as though my issue here doesnt make sense to some of you, and thats totally fine. Thanks to those who understand what I’m saying and those who gave suggestions. Now, here goes:

eclipse- oh great, I’m a BAS Yisroel, now what do you say?

PBA- Thing is, that I DO want to learn meforshim, I just find it so difficult!

MDG, Binahyeseira, mytake and all you who suggested artscroll- but artscroll just tells you the ‘answers’ so to speak. If I’d want to actually learn the loshon hakodesh, then what?

Derech Hamelech- sounds like a plan

mytake- like smile66 says, it feels much more accomplishing to do it inside

smile66- There’s someone out there who can relate with me!

“The thing is, with all these interlinear Rashi translations – those just help you understand that Rashi that you’re reading, but it doesn’t teach you HOW to “do” meforshim. I wonder, is it just something that some are good at and others are not and will never be? Or do we just have to work harder? And if so, how, exactly?” — I have this exact question, please someone answer

bygirl93- Thanks for stickin’ up for me, there πŸ™‚ and I really like your suggestion- though, in that case, do you know a good way to learn dikduk?

ItcheSrulik- thanks, I will write those names down and try find them!

hudi- to tell you the truth, I had no clue what else to put it under πŸ˜‰

Wolf, I agree with you whole-heartedly. It is terribly frustrating to go through davenning with whispers (not all people are so kind as to whisper, there are very often LOUD conversations) going on, like you say- less than 5 feet away.

My question is, how do you stop such things? People can be told a bazillion times to stop, but from my experience, people just don’t listen. Any suggestions?

I commend you on you holding back, and that you asked nicely- I know that both are very difficult for me. I either snap, or I hold it bottled inside me while the annoyance eats on my insides… So, sh’koyach to you πŸ™‚

Meanwhile, any suggestions for me? What do I tell davenning chatterboxes?

“When you’re davening you’re talking to Hashem, when you’re davening you’re talking to Hashem- our King, it’s a very special thing, when you’re talking to a King, when you’re davening you’re talking to Hashem!” (I love that song!) πŸ™‚

    Stickynote, abcd2, Kapusta–

    I loved them all!

Now, my friend told me this yesterday:

A new chassidish boys school opened, and in order to get government funding, they had to have the English Language as a subject at the school. The first day of school, the teacher sent the boys home, telling them to write a short essay on the word ‘devout.’

Now, little Shloimele went home that day, and being so confused, not knowing what the word meant, went straight to his older sister, Yittel, asking what it meant. Since she didn’t know either, so they went to look it up in the dictionary and it says… ‘Pious’

Shloimele, now knowing what to write, happily does his homework and brings it back the next day, and turns it in to the teacher.

The teacher looks at the paper, and asks him to read out his essay out to him. Shloimele reads it:

“My essay on Devout, by Shloimele:

My older brother has very long devouts, my middle brother has medium devouts, and I have short devouts.”

Teacher asks him to explain it since it doesn’t seem to make any sense. Shloimele responds, “well, I went home yesterday and since neither I nor my sister knew what the word meant, we looked it up, and it said pious.”

He continued, “So thats what I wrote about- My oldest brother has long payos, my medium brother has medium sized payos, and I have short payos”

    Cute, huh?

It made me laugh, and I hope it does the same to you πŸ™‚

    Hope you enjoyed πŸ˜€

    Mischeifmaker- I agree completely

But every day we must think– If moshiach DOES come today, I can’t get any more mitzvos! I can’t get any closer to Hashem! I no longer have free choice, got no Yetzer Horo!” It’s really serious, we NEED moshiach urgently, but we NEED to do more mitzvos before he can come!

Shoutout to the world- gotta do mitzvos so moshiach can come- we need him to come!

Bochuratheart- Is it the marvelous middos machine song that you were looking for? Or is there a different song on the magic yarmulka tape?

I know that we have the CD somewhere, and I’d be glad to write it out, if you’re looking for a different song- I’ll ask my bro when he comes home from school…

I agree, they should wrap it up- yes, Poster, I’m sure they do encourage the authors to make them as long as possible, but hasn’t it been almost a year with fools gold already? (I could be wrong on that) It seems like it’s taking forever! Though, I do like it, so I’m not complaining πŸ˜›

    The Banking Crisis simply explained…

The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day…

The next day he drove up and said, ‘Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey’s died.’

Paddy replied, ‘Well then just give me my money back.’

The farmer said, ‘Can’t do that. I’ve already spent it.’

Paddy said, ‘OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.’

The farmer asked, ‘What are you going to do with him?’

Paddy said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’

The farmer said, ‘You can’t raffle a dead donkey!’

Paddy said, ‘Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.’

A month later, the farmer met up with Paddy and asked, ‘What happened with that dead donkey?’

Paddy said, ‘I raffled him off.

The farmer said, ‘Didn’t anyone complain?’

Paddy said, ‘Just the guy who won.

So I gave him his two pounds back.’

Paddy now works for the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Thank you both charliehall and Daas Yochid!

The reason that I have heard, why you shouldn’t listen to non-Jewish music, is because of the reasons that ‘Acher’ became an apikores is that he listened to Greek music.

I’m not saying that we’ll all become apikoreses from listening to goyish music, just wondering if anyone else has heard that there are ‘7 heavens,’ and listening to goyish music, goes through, ’till the 8th, and thats ‘so terrible’.

By the way, I’m sorry that this is off topic, but is there an easy was to find the threads that you write on? Also, if you mark something as a favourite, where can you find the ‘favourites’ link?

Ps- Modirator: I hope that this question doesn’t go against the coffeeroom rules :-/

Who has tips on blow drying hair, straight? It takes me forever to straighten my hair, though I like it much better than my natural curly. It never straightens as nice as it does if I’ve blow dried it first, but the issue is that I donno how to hold the brush and dryer at the same time, with trying to catch it on the hair so that the hair gets ‘stretched’ straight. (I don’t think I’m making much sense here, but someone who understands- or can at least try to understand- PLEASE help!)

    Thanks!

Hi, I see that this post hasn’t been visited for a while, but since I’m new to the coffee room, I just had an archealogical find…

I’m just a bit confused by whats been posted: Is goyishe music really ok, if it doesn’t have “bad” lyrics? I’ve heard that any music, connects you to the composer and that it’s a terrible thing to be connected to these goyim, and yadayadayada. But, I really dont know. Who will dare to enlighten me on this matter.. Please? πŸ™‚

    Thanks!

I think that both iTunes and MostlyMusic sell it. I bought it off iTunes at the end of last year.
