Thanks, but do you mind explaining the iffy part?
HealthParticipantMDG, old man & Sam2,
The three of you have no comment on my post about Vaday Yoshon ? (That it is another Chumra to bite the dust.) So you all agree with me?
HealthParticipantTo all & MDG -“Most (about 2/3) of wheat grown in the USA is Yashan, BUT about 80% of durum wheat – used for pasta – is summer wheat, planted in late April.
Barley and Oats are also summer crops.”
IMO, let’s say everything MDG posted is correct and that the opinion of the old man is correct about wheat that it’s Chitah, I see No reason to be Makpid on Vaday Yoshon in America.
The wheat for bread here – Al Pi Rov is Yoshon. And the others, even if they are Chodosh, there is now a third Suffek on top of the Bach’s other two. This Suffek is – are durum wheat, barley and oats from the 5 types of grain (Chameshes Minay Dogon)?
HealthParticipantadorable -“is it that important to get the perfect cup of coffee? sounds like an iffy situation”
First of all, I don’t drink coffee. I want to go there for the food and mainly the Donuts!
Second – What’s iffy about it?
HealthParticipantyentemonkey – While I agree with you what you did then pales in comparison to what you do now, still there are others besides you in the school. The kid did the right thing in snitching and the prinicpal did the right thing in throwing you out. He could have given you a warning, but he isn’t/wasn’t required to. There are posters above who don’t like this, but it doesn’t mean they are right.
“NOW i’m on the street with a bunch of bums that im aware aren’t my friends they are just users and drug abusers !”
Now I understand that you are angry and frustrated and I would be too, but why hang out in the streets? Hanging out in the streets will only lead to you losing any Jewish identity you still have.
Why don’t you go to a modern orthodox school? I’ve posted this many times in the CR. They have normal Torah learning. Most of the students keep Shabbos. And being that most of these schools are mixed, you won’t get thrown out for talking to girls.
This I think is the problem -most parents are only out for themselves, so they won’t do what’s best for the kid. A lot of parents will waste time trying to get their kid into another frum school for their own reputation, instead of putting the kid in an MO school. In the meantime the kid is hanging out in the worst places. I don’t want to sound Sharf, but these parents will have to give a bigger Din V’chesbon than the school because their kid is OTD. Let them get off their high horse and put the kid in a MO Yeshiva!

I’m sure he ain’t the only one. But I can see her frustration and that’s why she won’t stop. Maybe she shouldn’t if she is right about the guy. People have to start doing the Mishna of – Al Tistakel B’kankan, etc. Why do these types have the capability to fool so many people?
HealthParticipantyitayningwut – I asked you a question in the topic -“I’m hungry”.
August 23, 2011 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm in reply to: Divorced and Remarried Woman–didn't cut her losses #801434HealthParticipant“As for help/therapy–my experience is that there are people who strive for improvement and others who are shallow, in denial, and are so full of themselves that there is no room in their lives for anything but themselves and the drama they create. They wallow in their mire and emit toxicity like a contagious disease. Those types almost never seek help–how unfortunate that sometimes the people who need therapy the most are the ones who are oblivious to it or think they are above it.”
This is an old story. That’s why they say “denial” isn’t just the name of a river in Egypt!
HealthParticipantyitayningwut -Now that I see that you’re around, any news about DD’s kashrus status?
HealthParticipantOld man – Could you answer the question I posted to the other guy?
“Does Barley & oats have to be Yoshon or is it just wheat?”
August 23, 2011 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm in reply to: Divorced and Remarried Woman–didn't cut her losses #801430HealthParticipantFrom my experience, there are a lot of bad people out there. For s/o like this, the best thing is not to give her an audience. She needs help and unless you’re a mental health prof. you can’t give it to her.
I never was really upset with my ex speaking bad about me, I understood why she was doing it. On the other hand, the people who spoke bad about me to her and convinced her to divorce me, are evil and insane. I’m sure they had/have sick mental reasons why they do/did it and it has nothing to do with me. These people will never have a cure to their sickness!
HealthParticipantGoq – I’ve been in many situations on busses over the years, including physical fights. As I’ve matured and grown older, you learn how to deal with all types of situations. Usually, when s/o is being loud and obnoxious, I either ignore it or just listen. Some of the things that they say are quite interesting, like what kind of crime they have committed.
But if the situation is unbearable, the first thing to do is ask them politely to stop. If they ignore, ask again. Usually if you shshh, the other passengers join in and they quiet down. If this doesn’t work approach the driver. He can make them stop. I once was on a bus and a druggie was touching e/o. So I was the first guy next to him, I ignored it and then moved. He started doing it to others. They freaked out and complained to the driver. He called the cops. They entered -searched the guy and told him to stay in the back of the bus and not bother anyone.
Anger begets anger. The only time to respond with anger is when your life is being threatened. You didn’t teach anybody anything. Hopefully you will learn from this incident and do the right thing next time.
HealthParticipantilovetorah -“furthermore that which you write concerning the ou that a mashgiach turns on the fire every time- if you are referring to PAS i dont believe your correct, in the ou documents on hilchos bishul akum its very clear many times over that for pas palter the ou does not require any action from a yid.”
I was talking about their criteria of Pas Yisroel. I went to their web site for the following:
They have 3 criteria for Pas Yisroel -must have at least one:
1. Bread put in oven by a Yid.
2. Oven turned on by Yid.
3. Oven temp. raised by Yid, even if subsequently lowered.
They hold that the oven can be shut off and then turned on by a goy as long as the oven temp. didn’t go lower than (I think)
176 degrees. This is still Pas Yisroel.
Even though they do certify Pas Palter, they have a very extensive Pas Yisroel list, which they post on their site. (And not just Frum bakeries.)
They also use an unique method to turn on some ovens. The following is an article that explains this:
“To ensure that baked goods are pas Yisrael, an observant
Jew must ignite the oven in which the
product is being baked. The OU recommends
named after the inventor, Rabbi Yehuda
Shain of Lakewood, New Jersey. This technique
involves installing an electric panel
that will enable the oven to be turned on
by an RFR (who is not in the bakery) using
a remote control telephone hook-up. This
system meets the strictest halachic requirements
and has received the approbation of
leading rabbinic authorities.”
HealthParticipantilovetorah -“health, maybe i am misunderstanding you but i dont believe anyone in the star k holds that a light in THE ROOM is sufficient, only a light in the heating/oven chamber. i myself spoke to R’ Heineman and others in the star k regarding this.”
Did you ask R’ Heineman specifically about what he holds with regards to the light bulb in the room as it pertains to Bishul?
HealthParticipantMDG – “Most (about 2/3) of wheat grown in the USA is Yashan, BUT about 80% of durum wheat – used for pasta – is summer wheat, planted in late April.
Barley and Oats are also summer crops.”
Does Barley & oats have to be Yoshon or is it just wheat?
So if most wheat is Yoshon besides pasta, why is almost everybody here in this town (Lkwd) and the Machmirim in other towns, always insisting on Vaday Yoshon on things besides pasta?
August 23, 2011 3:38 am at 3:38 am in reply to: Teenage girls and older chewing gum on the street #800927HealthParticipantginger311 – It’s in my post above. It’s a good idea to read the posts on the topic before you add your two cents.
You seem to be at that teenage girl age, were you think you know everything.
HealthParticipantold man -“For those who remember, after the US and Russia reached a nuclear agreement in the 70s, the US obligated itself to buy huge amounts of Russian wheat. This in itself caused so much of an oversupply of wheat that by the time it came to market, the probability that it was already yoshon was very high indeed. Halachic problem solved.”
This is what I’m talking about right now. There is an oversupply in America all the time, whether we still buy the Russky wheat or not, so Al Pi Rov the wheat is Yoshon. So there is no reason to be Machmir on getting Vaday Yoshon!
HealthParticipantanon1m0us – That wasn’t what I was necessary talking about. I think he holds the same thing with Bishul and a room light bulb.
August 22, 2011 6:43 pm at 6:43 pm in reply to: If Im the ony one to give complete down payment to children… #800746HealthParticipantAzois – “1- the house should be only on name of my blood relative, not spouse
2- if they sell the house (to move out of the state or country, for instance), I get back the down payment.”
I don’t know why you’re making such an issue. Put the house in your kid’s name or keep it in your name and take the rent to pay for the down payment and mortgage. If you insist on your #2, even if your kid agrees, your kid might not want to argue with his/hers spouse about it, if that what ends up occuring. So definitely in this case keep the house in your name.
I tend to agree with the other posters about some underlying issues. I think you have Taanos and that’s why you came here to let off steam. One thing I’ll tell you – a favor with strings attached is No favor. Either do the Toivah/Chessed wholeheartedly, or don’t do it at all!
HealthParticipantSam2 – This is the policy of that Vaad Hakashrus. I don’t know if they differentiate between incandescent or fluorescent (quite possibly). But if you have problems with this policy -you know whom to call. Or just don’t rely on them. At least the OU officially holds the Maschiach has to light the fire.
HealthParticipantold man – It’s fastest because the sugar is in a simpler form. This type of sugar or carb will act quick and be gone quick; not something that this guy needs for hours.
August 22, 2011 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm in reply to: Teenage girls and older chewing gum on the street #800922HealthParticipantginger311 – Thanks for your opinion, but a Godol holds differently than you. I hope you don’t mind if he argues with you.
HealthParticipantold man -“It will suffice to say that due to the overwhelming success of Dor Yesharim, there are very few shailos regarding fatal genetic diseases.”
What about Down’s syndrome which can’t be detected with prior to marriage testing?
HealthParticipantMod 42 – “The bread that the OU gives hechsherim to is pas palter, bread baked commercially, which is muttar to eat. There is a chumra not to eat it, some people follow this chumra all the time, some follow it only on Shabbos and Yom Tov, but it is only a chumra, halachicly it is completely muttar.”
Wrong – since you mentioned the OU. The OU claims that all of their baked products are Pas Yisroel because it’s their policy to have the Maschiach light the oven. So there is never a reason not to eat their products even during the Aseres Yemai Teshuva.
(I personally doubt it’s every single time, but it’s probably Rov.)
This I heard from s/o who works for the Vaad Hakashrus of Balto. (I guess this only applies to Bishul because I can’t see it applying to baking.) The Rav Hamachshir (you know who he is) holds that if the Maschiach turns on the light in the room -this is enough not to be Bishul Acum because the light adds a tiny bit of heat.
HealthParticipantold man – I heard in America, there is another Heter. Rov of the wheat produced here which is sent to market is Yoshon. What do you have to say about this?
HealthParticipantToi – I’m not Haifagirl, but could you at least have some basic grammar like Capitalization and no run on sentences. The purpose of posting is for others to hear and Understand your point of view. The way you post makes this very difficult! If you can’t improve, please refrain from wasting everybody’s time -trying over and over to decipher your gibberish. Thank you!
“at least its not something directly harmful to their neshama.”
Since as a far as I know, e/o holds it’s Ossur including Rav Moshe who says it’s Ossur to start -smoking will definitely effect your Neshoma!
“if you dont want to quit- just your doctor tells you to, you still love the cigarette and you wont be able to.”
Yes, this is true. But this isn’t what everybody claims. They all state -“I really want to quit”. They aren’t being honest with themselves. They have to own up to the fact that they really DON’T want to quit! If they really wanted to, they would! And I’ve posted many times here in the CR -how to!
HealthParticipantyitayningwut – So what are you saying about DD’s in Todd Plaza?
HealthParticipantCJP – I just take a regular multi-vit everyday. I see no reason to take extra Vit. B. I’m not into the mega vitamins hype!
August 22, 2011 7:54 am at 7:54 am in reply to: If Im the ony one to give complete down payment to children… #800736HealthParticipantAries – So do I become a client of yours? I sure could use the money.
HealthParticipantquark -“The op was talking about the opinion if the KCL, one of the most respected kashrus agencies in Lakewood and the entire frum world”
Give it a break – enough with the propaganda.
And the COOP has frozen corn on the cob, just not fresh.
HealthParticipantCharlie – Welcome back. “My wife once asked a shilah of a prominent talmid chacham if she could teach medical residents how to perform abortions. To her surprise (mine, too) the answer was yes. The reason given was that because abortions were sometimes mandated, it was essential that there be physicians who knew how to perform them.”
What do you mean by teach? Like show how on a real patient? I doubt that would be Mutter. That’s the only way it’s called teaching. I would not just do it because I was told to.
HealthParticipantcleverjewishpun – I’ll give you my medical opinion, if you do my Simchos for free. Just kidding -unless you really want to.
Ok, First thing -try taking the Kalei Tzom before the fast. After Havdallah, since a lot of the weakness is due to dehydration -the fluids have to be replaced. The best is something like Pedialyte, then things like Gatorade.
What I usually do is have something like Lox & Cream Cheese on a bagel with OJ. The last two fasts, I drank a bottle of Gatorade first. These foods/drinks contain what your body needs – carbs, protein, sodium and potassium.
HealthParticipantWow this topic is getting interesting.
Old Man – Out of curiosity -what type of sickness or genetic problems are Mattered and until what gestational month?
hello99 – What type of life-threating disease is being Mattered and until what gestational month or till the delivery?
August 21, 2011 5:30 am at 5:30 am in reply to: Teenage girls and older chewing gum on the street #800912HealthParticipantI remember hearing from Rav Y. Galinsky either directly or s/o told me, he said chewing gum is not the thing to do because you look like a cow.
HealthParticipanthello99 -“Poiskem Matter abortions in cases where it isn’t life threating – eg.- genetic problems with the fetus” omitted the majority opinion.”
If you didn’t chap what I meant with this post it’s simple -you posted that’s it’s ossur and I was explaining to e/o that your blanket statement isn’t true -there are dissenters! If I thought that you were tellng e/o that there is only one way -I’m sure others thought the same way as me. This was deceit on your part.
HealthParticipantARWSF – I didn’t think you decided this by yourself, but it doesn’t mean that the THEY can’t be wrong!
HealthParticipantDid the stone pass or are they going to do a procedure?
HealthParticipantA Yitush is either a gnat or a mosquito, not an amoeba.
But it’s nice to think of your Gemorrah when you read a news article. With Titus it was totally a Neis. The Yitush probably doesn’t usually eat brain cells and definitely doesn’t grow to the size of a bird.
HealthParticipantSam2 – You shouldn’t be addressing me -you should be addressing
hello 99! This is what happens when you post without first reading the whole topic.
HealthParticipanthello99 – There is a difference stating just the way we Pasken L’halacha from the S’A than stating only one way when it’s a Machlokes Haposkim. The latter is deceitful by putting it on the level of Psak Halacha from S’A as opposed to just a Psak from the Poskim in our generation. I’m sorry that you can’t see this obvious difference.
Would you mind telling us who gave you Smeicha?
HealthParticipanthello99 -“Health: if someone asked you “how many candles do we light the second night of Channuka?” would it be “deceitful” to answer “2” without mentioning that Beis Shammai holds “7”???”
I already stated if s/o comes to ask you a personal Shaila, you can just say the way you Pasken. I also posted that over here this isn’t the case. This is a public forum -so no one asked you what the Psak is. If you are discussing the Inyan, you have to at least mention that others disagree, otherwise this is deceitful!
HealthParticipantAnybody who meets the gov. guidelines can take it, whether they are looking for work or not.
“If it’s for the second reason, than how could people learning in kollel accept food stamps if they aren’t looking for work?”
I think there is an exception for students. Kollel guys are students.
HealthParticipantsqueak -“At least a little busha at the checkout counter can’t hurt. The middah of busha is vital to Klal Yisroel.”
Unfortunately, there isn’t any Busha anymore. But this I blame the gov. for. When they had the paper FS, most Yidden would be hesitant to take it out in a big supermarket like Shoprite. Nowadays with the card, only the people right next to you know it’s the FS card, so no more Busha!
HealthParticipantGAW – I knew you would argue. This Gezeira has nothing to do with whom she lives – by herself, her parents, etc. She has to get married because otherwise the Yentas will talk. This is a Gezeira on everyone, even if you locked her up in a jail with armed guards and only Bais Din has the key – “Lo Plug”. You do know what “Lo Plug” is?
The only time the Gezeira doesn’t apply if she lives in a town of only women or sterile men!
“Also, being that it is a machlokes HaPoskim,”
While it’s true there is a Machlokes -there shouldn’t be any Shaila acc. to whom we Pasken.
“I don’t think you will find any Rov who will say a girl has to marry.”
I don’t know what Rabbonim will say, but I know what the Halacha is. The Gedorim of Halacha are we go after the Rabbim. Here in no way are the dissenters even close to a Rabbim! They are a Miyut! Esp. here- where the P’shat they learn in the S’A is a big Deechuk!
What I posted is Gedorim in Halacha, not in P’sak. If you follow your Rov and even if his Psak is different than many more Poskim, you are still allowed to follow him!
HealthParticipantFrom a literary blog:
“Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief;
Doctor, lawyer, merchant, chief.
A variant of the last was “Doctor, lawyer, Indian chief.”
HealthParticipantMG – “aren’t you also a landsman and a tinsman?”
I just left out “man” after beggar, but my version is the original from the 1700’s. A post was started with two newer versions, but mine is the original.
See Wikipedia and others.
HealthParticipantSee my post in -“What do you do?”
Over there I posted the original rhyme, which is none of the above!
HealthParticipantGAW – If a woman lives by herself people might end up talking that she was Mezaneh -whether true or not. This won’t happen in a town of only women or sterile men. The Chashad is on the talking, not on any action. Because we would never be Chosed B’kesharim. We aren’t saying single women are more likely to be Mezaneh more than anyone else. But we don’t want negative talk against people -hence the Gezeira.
HealthParticipantARWSF -“You cannot have an MRI when pregnant.”
You most certainly can. Some will avoid the first trimester or using the contrast. I don’t know what this MRI was ordered for -care to share?
HealthParticipantGAW – “Because we have no good reason why they are not married, other than that they are Zonos (AKA, Chashad).”
Sorry to disagree with you, but I really discussed this at length in the topic of “Who wants to be a Tzaddeikes like Rus?”. They have a Chiyuv to get married. Period. If they really can’t find s/o then they are a Onus. I had this discussion at length -at what point can they say they are not going to settle for this. I posted there that the only excuses of not settling is what the S’A paskens that they don’t have to settle for. (See S’A in Hilchos Gittin.) I also posted that age difference ISN’T an excuse, except if it’s a case of Zokein Vyalda, where the S’A advises against. Nowadays Yaldas (little girls) don’t get married, so this excuse isn’t even applicable.
I think you are mixing two things up. I don’t think you understand what Chashad means. It means they have to get married -it’s a Gezeira -No ifs, ands or buts! If they Really can’t find anyone in the world besides those that they don’t have to marry as stated in S’A, then they are called an Onus. That doesn’t mean they can give up looking, it just means for right now they aren’t Oiver this Issur of not being married. The only time they would have a Pitur from the Gezeira of Chashad is if they lived in a town of only women or a town of only sterile men.
