Different brands of frozen veggies use different cleaning processes. Some rely more on samples than others, some reply more on washing than others. Some rely more on the greenhouse process itself than others. There is actually a wide machlokes between the OU and the Star-K on this. Positive Produce is the cleanest, but they achieve it using chumras that my rav views as Bal Tashchis. As always, ask your LOR.

Btguy, ask real Lakewood old timers what Lakewood used to be like, and yes there was a strong modern element there. Reb Aharon ZT”L picked it because it was out of the way. Bezalel may have been the only game in town, but it was not the type of place most Lakewooders would send their kids to today. I wonder if Rav Shneur ZT”L would get into most Lakewood schools today, being that he went to Bezalel. But that’s for another thread. But you are essentially agreeing to me that Lakewood was never a sole “ir HaTorah”. Meaning that the teeth-gnashing of the kollel yungeleit there over the newer baalei batim and the new restaurants is misplaced.

oot for life, the slippery slope goes the other way as well. If we defend every guilty person, then when we have a real case of Anti-Semitism, it will get brushed off as “The Jews are defending the guilty again”. It used to be the Agudah stood for defending the rights of innocents. Now, our causes are about guilty people and trying to get them to beat the rap. NOT the way to get law enforcement on your side.

Lakewood used to be a modern community. Rav Shneur Kotler ZT”L went to a day school. Lakewood has now grown to the point where it’s reverting to a mixed community.

I was listening to nachum segal this morning. Hynes was on the radio. He said somebody forged Zack Tamir’s signature to say he was against the extradition. Hynes called Zack, who told him it wasn’t his signature. This kind of shenanigans don’t help either.

Story is on competing websites, stolen from the daily news:

Jewish leaders are blasting Brooklyn prosecutors who areworking with Israeli officials to extradite a Crown Heights Hasid charged with a hate crime back to New York.

Top rabbis, community heads, and Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Borough Park), posted letters on freeyitzi.org supporting Yitzhak Shuchat, 28, – wanted in the April 2008 assault of Andrew Charles the son of a black NYPD cop.

Earlier this month, the Israeli court ordered Shuchat to return to Brooklyn after he fled to a suburb outside Tel Aviv where he was leaving freely for three years.

In November 2011, the Daily News reported that Shuchat had moved to Israel with his wife and children despite a warrant out for his arrest. Israel then announced plans to ship Shuchat back to the States.

Prosecutors said Shuchat, who was a member of the Shmira Jewish safety patrol at the time, jumped out of a van beating Charles with a club.

Hikind said Shuchat was responding to the call of a Jewish woman being attacked, spotted Charles, prompting the fight.

Adams said he is also questioning why the fight is being called a hate crime, a decision that could fuel another battle between blacks and Hasidic Jews.

The Oz Vehadar Levusha is not a reliable source , according to my Rav, as it completely misquotes the teshuva of Reb Moshe ZT”L. furthermore, it was not written for the american mentality. For instance, it says it’s a lack of tznius for women to wear sneakers. Maybe in Gateshead but not in America.

The concept is sound. I like it.

The question is, does a female mod violate the rule of srara- melech velo malkah, or is it akin to a female mashgicha at a restaurant whose authority comes from a rabbi so it’s ok?

    Swiped from elsewhere:

Here are eight simple steps you can take right now to stop a bully:

    Take it seriously.

When a bullys tactics cross the line, take the actions seriously. Typical warning signs include withdrawal, unexplained injuries, or becoming afraid to go to work or school. If the bullying is happening to someone close to you, address these signs with the person as soon as you notice them. If you are the victim, find someone to talk with about what is happening. Left ignored, the bullying will likely escalate.

    Use your voice.

Workplace and schoolhouse bullies would prefer to keep their actions under the radar so they may continue. However, one of the most effective ways to stop bullying is to report the bullys actions to others. Be specific so the person receiving the information understands what is occurring and its impact on you or the victim.

    Dont bully back.

This is a no-win deal. Often times, the bully is looking for an aggressive response so they can increase their bullying perhaps with even more force and violence. As stated before, the best bet is to alert others to what is happening.

    Provide consequences.

Adults who are being bullied can enforce some boundaries. For example, if you find yourself being bullied by a co-worker, or even a supervisor, tell the bully if the behavior doesnt stop then you will report him or her to the human resources department.

    Dont take it personally.

What motivates a bully is usually an issue or a limitation the bully feels insecure with. Bullies target others to feel better about themselves. Even though being on the receiving-end of a bullys wrath is unpleasant, as well as unsafe, remember its not about you; of anything you did wrong. When helping another person through their experience with a bully, remind them of their worth and value and to ignore the harsh name calling being fired at them.

    Move past the shame.

Bullies will think they can continue the bullying because their victim may be too ashamed to say anything. When I was a child, the bullies taunted me about my speech impediment and the fact I had to wear eyeglasses two things that brought me shame regardless if I was being bullied, or not. The bullying only exacerbated my shame. Now as an adult, I know the playground bullies from my past were motivated by their own shame. If you are a victim, understand the internalized guilt you feel belongs to the person bullying you. Give the shame back to the bully. When you do, you will begin to feel the power you do have.

    Look for trends.

Bullies have patterns. At work, if you notice your boss is more aggressive just before an important meeting, then avoid these meetings, or least your interactions with your boss beforehand. If your child reports the bully is more hostile on the school bus, then consider alternative ways to get your child to school. Bullies adopt habits and trends. Becoming more aware of these trends, and then developing a plan to counter them, will put you in a better position to stop the bullying.

    Use common sense when online.

Guard your passwords and the passwords of your children. Be discerning when considering if your elementary or middle school-aged child may create Facebook or email accounts. Limit social media friend requests and other contacts to only those people with whom you have positive relationship with offline. Watch the amount of time your child is spending online and monitor their emotions and behaviors afterwards.

Bullies can leave scars that last a lifetime. My goal is to keep my son safe and to provide the tools he needs. My hope is with the school year ending soon; the bullying will end with it. By helping him deal with his bully now, may prevent the scars he doesnt deserve.

To sit around surfing all day, and neither being oseik in Torah or yishuv ha’olam, is not chiyus. Batala meviah lidey shiamum-doing nothing leads to madness.

Depends on the job. Some jobs aren’t desk jobs, and many firms highly filter the internet to block unproductive websites.

Plus, new employees are on probation and will not want to risk being caught surfing during the probation period.

Daas Torah means that just like an economist will view the world through the prism of economy, supply, and demand, someone who learned a lot of Torah will understand the Torah’s view on things. The Torah is the blueprint and instruction manual for creation, so someone who studied it will have insights that a layman will not.

Some people have stronger yitzrei hara than others. Some people have more levetaed neshamos than others. “Tzaddik” and “Rasha” are determined by Hashem, not us, but there are some who are predisposed to greatness in Olam Hazeh.

I once read about Chushim ben Dan who had very limited spiritual potential but fulfilled it by lopping off Esav’s head.

Dr. Pepper mentioned an email he received from Squeak over the summer. Squeak said “no such email was sent from my account”. This means someone spoofed squeak’s email address, got hold of Dr. Pepper’s email, and sent him an email to make it look like squeak. Joseph strikes again.

Nechomah, the mods are human and get sick of playing whack-a-mole with every joseph fake sn. This is an unemployed guy who spends 18 hours a day on his computer instead of learning in a beis midrash or doing something productive. The easiest way is warn people of the consequences and let the chips fall where they may until the YWN owner decides to “clean house”. YWN owner has enough felony counts documented to put a stop to this.

Nechomah, you are seeing correctly. It has become clear from the recent threads that despite joseph/stalker’s’s best attempts (if not joseph it’s someone else), people have become wary of releasing their personal info. So I comment on it to change the conversation, give a different spin, etc.

Check out this thread, where 2 people discover that they have been stalked/spoofed:

Canadian geese are everywhere. The only question is eating them without a mesorah. there are those who have the “webbed feet” sevara, but I’m not sure everyone holds of them.
