Sam first of all I think mens and womens shirts are different in any case. This has been a minhag for years and years dont know with which specific livushim though but possibly with shirts. The burden is on you to prove why continuing to wear clothes you have been wearing for forever fall under lo silbash. Its not mistaber bichlal. I hope you have a source because to just say its a serious safeik is a very controversial way of saying things and thinking. Did you ever even bounce it off some mavinim before formulating your opinion or you just relied on yourself? Because if not I think saying something like “I honestly think” is a bit too presumptious.

First of all i would assume he was talking about gaining ahavas yisroel from reading these stories after all that was the relevance of these stories to the 9 days. Second of all your response consequentially made a further reaching assumption than the scope of YWs comment which i adressed in my response.

Sam I dont see why you ever have to think a rishon or acharon is (completely!) wrong (though i see it done sometimes by emmese poskim (quite often with apparent hesitation and respect) but its not a proof for anybody else, even talmidei chachomim) you can always instead say i dont understand (that doesnt mean they are right though, they might be wrong) what hes saying and leave it at that without implying right or wrong and still follow your own line of thinking (unless you are being don din liatzmo (where in addition to other factors there is a hisarvus of pniyos and adam korov eitzel atzmo)). It makes a difference because first of all its quite likely that you are mistaken (kinire bchush) and its obviously important to give somebody who is much smarter and more knowledgeable than you especially when they took the effort of trying to be asuki shmaata aliba dihilchisa and obviously made thorough research as much as they could possibly do, because of their daiga of not being mateh the rabim the benefit of the doubt. Since that happens to be the case it also has the quality of anivus and bittul and somebody who doesnt think that way is not makir mikomo (and mikom hagdolim) and is a baal gaavah. If it seems to be an obvious and inconsequential distinction know that its actually very significant, because even if you would somehow taaneh either way is a true way to look at it, the fact is, we are talking about talmidei chachomim here who you have to approach with kovod, therefore surely in your speech and even in your thoughts this is the right approach.

In your most recent post you even seem to backtrack a little yet you still said what you said in previous post.

If i’m not mistaken the mods use the bold letters. But cant posters do that too? So its kind of confusing. Also why cant the mods use a seperate post to post their response. Its looks kind of intruding in my opinion.

Pcoz I was not talking about being a shoteh that Halacha would exonerate or American law, and I assume that EzratHashem wasn’t either, I was talking about comparing somebody whose Teva is more inclined towards wrongdoing than somebody else or whose circumstances effected a greater tendency towards evil than someine else’s. And I’m not neccessarily able to read books on one foot. Maybe you could have explained the distinction in short in addition to reffering the book.

Sam where do you get it from that America has to follow Rav Moshe’s Psak? Didnt you yourself say that sometimes the Tzibbur is clearly not noiheg like him? What would determine that if not for not following his Psak from the get go? And there are plenty of reliable Achronim who preceded that argue with Rav Moshe sometimes.

Pcoz, Hashem judges a person only for what he did, not what he didn’t do, but when He does, He takes the individual circumstances into account. That shouldn’t be beyond us either.

I have noticed this trend recently and I think its appalling. I’m a bit disgusted to find bnai torah so concerned with how their friends will see their wits.

In my days it was good enough that a guy be a big baal midos, a huge baal chassed, a gargantuan machshiv torah, and most importantly to be his friends biggest fan. Unfortunately, today eichah a guy like that is yushvuh buddud. The dor we live in is a terrible dor. In fact its the worst dor i ever lived in. I spit on this dor.

I am talking about bnai torah who seem more concerned about what their friends will think when they see their wits than whether it is the right way to utilize it for THEM.

One can just imagine the thoughts going through his mind as he types his mind-bending chapp on yeshivawn/cr on tuesday morning:

“Look at me. Look who I am. I’m such a baal mussar. I’ve spent years toiling in torah, working on myself to get to this point. I think only of pnimius. I deserve a post everyone will look at and know that I will be the next gadol hador. I’m such a troll.”

This doesnt have to be “the way it is”. Most of us are here because it takes so long to moderate and when we come back to see if there is a response it takes forever for it to appear so were still waiting. And commenting is not sometimes slow its always slow. And just because some people are here because its moderated doesnt mean it cant be improved.

Whether people are right ot wrong to think Gedolim are infallible, dont compare to avi avos hatuma chas vishalom and dont say such unbased things like its kimat kfira. All it is is a well meaning mistake if anything. How in the world is it kfira to think gedolim are infallible? Dont let your heart run out before you and then conform your opinions with your emotianal impulse. And this should be really obvious, when it comes to Hashkafa, we dont give a darn if the rest of the world does it if its emes. There is absolutely no reason to assume that this (true or untrue) way of thinking comes from goyim lihavdil anyways. If you had even a bit of Ahavas Yisroel or common sense you wouldnt have let this shtus enter your head.

Why should a person who its very likely never got the opportunity to become aware that there’s anything wrong with the above, and is surely filled with Mitzvos, not get Olam Haba, and who died with so much bizayon (like mdd said, see Sanhedrin 47A)? Tfila for them and giving Tzdaka also helps.

    Here’s a somewhat insightful story:

The Ohalei Yosef, Reb Eliyahu Yosef Rivlin, became severely ill. The doctors couldn’t find a cure and eventually gave up and said there isn’t much time and his life is in danger. His sickness was such that in the Shulchan Aruch the Beis Yosef and the Rama argue about it if it happened to an animal. The Beis Yosef is Machshir and the Rama is Matrif.

Reb Eliyahu Yosef said: I’ve found for myself a Takana. I’ll travel to Eretz Yisroel where the Beis Yosef is the “Mara Diasra” and there the Halacha will be like him.

He set out at once for Eretz Yisroel where he lived for twenty years more.

Don’t. But I really don’t know what you’re talking about (I searched for it). Especially considering how you didn’t address my comment in defense of what I wrote from the Rambam. I don’t see how what I wrote is so different from what SIDI wrote. Why can’t I say Kavyachol too (about Hashem)? And you wrote “probably Apikorsus”!

You’re right, he didn’t say so straight out. But he implied that according to the approach he brought gufa it is guaranteed.

“much of Chassidish thought is probably Apikorsus according to the Rambam (mostly from Yesodei Hatorah, certainly if you read the Moreh)”

“Moshiach doesn’t just “come” and solve all our problems.”

    There were no maybes there.

In any case, to add to this thread, let me quote from the end of the Rambam:

The Sages and the prophets did not yearn for the Messianic era in order to have dominion over the entire world, to rule over the gentiles, to be exalted by the nations, or to eat, drink, and celebrate. Rather, they desired to be free to involve themselves in Torah and wisdom without any pressures or disturbances, so that they would merit the world to come, as explained in Hilchot Teshuvah.

Sam first of all RSRH does not seem to be saying what you said, he brings a requirement i never heard of. In fact the rambam himself actually says about king moshiach the exact opposite of what RSRH describes later, “viyachof kal yisroel leileich ba ulichazeik bidkah” and second of all, to your point, the Rambam writes about Tchiyas Hameisim in his 13 ikrim, which is bitul minhago shel olam, so its not so simple that he says the entirety of the Geula will be a natural process. And definitely olam haba afterwards is miraculous, we cant even imagine it and thats also lishitas harambam. In fact it seems RSRH might agree with that, he just says that’s not right away, not even shibud malchiyus. That is what I challenged him for. His point that not everything will neccessarily be so easy right may be true, but it doesn’t have to be that way, even according to the Rambam. Like he writes in Iggeres Tchiyas Hameisim that what he explained elsewhere that the prophecies of moshiach like the wolf living with the lamb are just a mashla, it is not definitive that it will be that way.
