    Dear Common,
I posed the question about davening at home, and was told Kol Hakovod! The Rosh Yeshivos and Rabbonim who have very busy schedules daven in private often. Those that deem it a serious risk will still daven at home. There is not much to say. Many shuls are not as beneficial as they should be. But what is there to do? Maybe we could daven.

    Dear The,
I used google. Hmmmm. Some of these studies do not even exist. The first one you listed is dated on other boards as taking place in 2020. Why did you leave that out?
Last year, during the measles (The disease that kills 100,000 children a year.) I was in Lakewood. I overheard a yungerman who had conducted his own study: Unvaccinated children have autistic parents.

It seems that poorer countries have better numbers than wealthier countries.

My siblings in EY told me, that people there cooperate because there is a greater sense of responsibility. When the one who are at risk are your brothers, you are happy to stay inside.

    Dear Health,
Huh? Who is threatening to rule over you?You asked to change the topic, to Mr. Biden. What are you pushing on others? I lost you on why any of this should matter. {Unless universalism is very important to you.} Liberalism has very little to gain from political office. Society changes politics. Not the other way around.

    Dear Bk,
This thread was not started by the left/media at large. The point of the thread was never clarified. I think it was leadership, not politics. How is there a double standard in this post?

    Dear Milhouse,
So a king is a ruler who cannot be legally deposed. That is your opinion. I do not see it. Definitely not compatible with TaNaCh.

I did not look up the passuk. I recall something to the effect of your words becoming public without mention of danger. Maybe that was Koheles. Okay, I will check it up.

Still why do you insist it is not dangerous? There is a whole thread discussing if someone was illegally in peril because of his place in Washington politics. (Or something like that. It is not my type of game.) Also, why does the danger have to come from the Government? Why can’t some radicals (namely me) act on their own, because of what they read online?

    Come on everybody!
We could discuss each Governor’s policy. We cannot discuss the President’s. Because there is none. He keeps moving on to something else. Bush had his popularity soar (like 85%) after 9/11. Trump wasted an easy chance to win reelection in a landslide. He never acts like a leader. That may be a good thing. But people get frustrated by a lack of leadership during a crisis. This is not about policy or politics. Leave Coumo out. He is leading 5 states right now. Trump is leading 0. I am not saying Coumo is better for it, put it does seem like the President does not get it. [If he does, it is a golden opportunity for him.] Please try to understand the point before making it political.

    Dear Silent,
Left wing modern orthodoxy is also mainstream. Otherwise, remove the wing. Radical left modern orthodoxy is not mainstream. Radical means extreme.

    Dear Hachareidy,
Why is this a reason to be silent? It is probably worth repeating.

We should redefine this thread. Lack of empathy? Self absorbed? Lack of leadership? Out of touch? Ignoring facts? Head in the sand?Maybe a fool? Ostrich politics? Avoidable deaths? Not a king? Best president ever?

It would be a waste to have such a varied conversation without a good heading.

    Dear Health,
Okay, but your (mine and anyone else’s too) idea of established values is a minority in every aspect, when compared to politics or society at large. Why would you care if Mr. Biden or President Trump line up with your values, your still the same one opinion?
Not okay. This definition is based on allowing societies to develop their traditions according to their own beliefs. Therefore, Conservatism is far, far more introverted than extroverted.
Same idea, different phrase. Why should someone from a different society believe in these values?

    Dear Som,
Reb Eliezer is confused why the President is denying the reality of the pandemic. He did not give specifics. (He does not have to. My hangnail is not a pandemic.) Maybe he does not accept that the President can still be putting his self interest before the country’s. Either way, it is not good leadership.

    Dear Milhouse,
This is confusing. I will write as if you made these points. If I got you wrong, just assert your opinion.
    1) Who could more truthfully claim “I am the state”, Charles V or Donald Trump? (Slight spoiler alert the President has made the point without saying it.)
    2) What matters is if he is a legal king. Therefore a puppet king is also a king. A president with vast powers is not. I do not think that would hold up to an inquiry of our Torah sources.
    3) Because the law allows it, the advice in Mishlei does not apply. WOW!!! I could think of many reasons not to do things that are lawful.

    Dear Milhouse,
My mistake. Make that poetic justice. If I had the genius of our President, that first comment would be sarcasm. Alas, forgive my grotesque blunder. But, I still have no reason to hold him to any standard. He could hold himself to his own standard.

The main is always relative to what the extremes of the stream appears to be. When standing on the head is no longer considered extreme, it becomes mainstream.

    Dear Milhouse,
I’m not sure that there can be any concept of a governing body, without the concept of respect. Your opinion is that respect is completely subjective? Like, if I decide he deserves my respect than I should give it even though he has no idea why I respect him? You seem very sure of yourself. And I have no idea what you mean.

Anyways……….. It sure seems like our President does not think of himself as a public servant. Many great kings felt beholden to their realm. In your opinion, what makes a king a king? Pharaoh was called Pharaoh.

And to Reb Eliezer too. From an historical perspective, President Trump is as wealthy and as powerful as just about any king mentioned in TaNaCh. Even puppet kings have the din of a melech.

    Dear Jersey,
Which news outlet one follows does not matter here., It only matters if they cannot do math themselves. Take any official count, and tell us how this country is in good shape. Additionally, a lot of the testing is reactive, not proactive. (There is still no cohesive plan how to test and track cases.) Factor in the geography of the various hot spots, and the country as a whole is in a really bad spot. It seems like it is up to regional groups. (Like the northeast Governors joining together. The Great Lake Region and the Pacific Coast States.) Or each Governor for themeself.

    Dear Akuperma,
A President is supposed to be able to listen to expert opinions. He should not be watching television all day. It seems people buy a media narrative, way more than the media story. The american media downplayed the severity of this virus, and helped delay the response. Go look at the facts on the ground on any day in march, and compare it with the news cycle of that day.

    Dear Health,
Please tell me where this comes from. Very few conservative thinkers write about these topics. (Why? Maybe because they are true conservatives? It is a vexing question!) If you are a liberal, than universalism is at or near the center of your worldview. Therefore, liberals are always getting caught up in what others are practicing or preaching. Hence, The common hypocrisy. For a conservative, universalism is peripheral or non-existent. There is no automatic reason to fight anyone else’s worldview. I do not mean to call you a liberal, but why is any of this important to you.

    Dear Yankelle,
The term “Sar HaTorah” is not new. In the most recent era, it was given to the great marbeetzai torah. The Netziv. R’ Chaim Brisker, R’ Aaron, R’ Moshe, R’ Shach, R’ Shmuel Rozovsky, and R’ Chaim Shmuelevitz. (I know there other factions that use the title. But that does not relate to my point.) It Switched with Rav Shmuel Birnbaum. He was not a public figure and he had a small shiur in the Mir. The last ten years of his life, his shiur grew (Until he was ill.) and he gave shiurim all over. [Also, a high percentage of his talmidim became influential marbbetzai torah. With R’ Chaim Kanievsky it switched to a public figure who personifies the Torah.

    Dear Kluger,
Walmart management would have wanted the clerk to put it back on the shelf. Laziness/lack of intelligence is why they threw it out. But either way, your thinking is completely irrational. If someone would steal the a/c that would be stealing. If someone pays for it and keeps it, the store has money. When the item is returned the store does not have the money, the customer does. That money was rightfully earned by the store. The customer reclaiming it without deserving it, is theft. That is not based on policy, it is common law. I have not found anything resembling your rational in Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, or Kant. The onus of reason is on you to show your ‘rationality’.

My point is, this is an issue of social conflict. People who follow their own paths away from the community, have to be amicable about it. If the Rav is for or against is not a factor. People have to answer to themselves first.
