Hey, Shopping613! That’s so sweet that you remembered me :). I always wondered if I’d ever have a thread dedicated to moi. Not sure if I’m here to stay. I guess we’ll see. Thanks for the thread! 😀

    Hi, Syag 🙂

Bookworm120, cool you have some experience! What kind of books did you self-publish, if I may ask (Jewish or non-Jewish? Fiction or non-fiction?) As for reading my books…hm. I’m not sure if my books are something most frum people are interested in. I could be wrong, though. I write mainly for teens and most have a male point of view and there is always romance in there, so I guess it would depend on the person and what he/she feels comfortable reading. I don’t feel comfortable posting their titles… Maybe I would tell you privately, if there was a way.

Not sure I understand what you’re asking. I am a Jewish writer–what I mean by that is that I’m Jewish (frum) and I write. Not that I write/publish Jewish books. I have self-published a few secular novels, and to all those who claim self-publishing is easy, it’s not. Not at all. It takes A LOT of hard work and the market is very competitive. It’s extremely hard to stand out. I’ve heard over a hundred books get published a day on Amazon Kindle.

I am considering the possibility of publishing a frum Jewish novel. I will definitely self-publish as opposed to finding a Jewish publisher. Not sure if anyone would be interested in reading my Jewish books, though (Jews or non-Jews). What I’d really love to see is frum writers taking control and writing REAL books with deep, complex characters dealing with REAL issues, and are gutsy enough to actually write about topics that no one would dream of writing in the current Jewish publishing market. And self-publishing them where readers from all over can have access to them (and pay a decent price as opposed to the ridiculous prices they pay for Jewish books now).

Bar Shattya, actually, we peeled our esrogim and added them to the apple sauce, and we plan on making jam with the rest. And don’t call me stupid.

Sam 2, whether or not they were dumb, I don’t really appreciate you calling them dumb. I don’t know them, but it’s not very nice. You have no idea why they did what they did. Maybe they want to celebrate? There aren’t many ways women and girls can partake in these mitzvos, other than spending 5 hours in the kitchen preparing food that, by the way, you men love to scarf down. And yeah, maybe they were really dumb, so what? Why the bashing on girls? I don’t see any of the female posters bashing down on the guys.

But whatever, you guys are just having fun, so I’ll step out.

Ummm, maybe you should spend less time looking into the women’s section and more time on your davening?

Seriously, Sam 2, I didn’t expect this from you. While I do agree that women having a lulav and esrog is a bit much, keep your eyes in your own section. There is nothing wrong with girls going to shul. If they didnt go people would complain that they never go. No matter what we do, we always get criticized, ain’t that right?

MP, lol -). Actually, it’s because of Blur that I’m a crazy driver in L.A. Noire. Whenever my guy gets into the car, I want to race, race, race, knock into things and destroy my car! Hehe -). Oooh, Fable. I’ve always wanted to play that game -(. And I didn’t started Fallout: New Vegas yet! Is it good?

enlightenedjew, nice list! So jealous about Skyrim lol. Is Gran Turismo 5 a racing game? MP, for you! Is Dragon Age good? I saw a deal the other day for Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2 plus the expansion for really cheap, but I wasn’t sure if it was any good.

Wun Uv Meny, good luck! =)

I agree, OOM! (what was the name I used to call you? Wun Uv Meny or something? lol).

Curiosity, just wanted to advise you not to get too worked up over this. I had a similar situation happen to me a while ago where I was discussing my writing with another member, and a member came in and was totally rude and disrespectful. So the best thing to do is steer clear of the jerks and carry on. We were having soo much fun and they all felt left out so they had to say something negative 😛

Sooooo, back to regular programming. I’m up to the last board in my Caesar game and once I’m done I shall resume my awesome detective, and not-so-awesome driving, skillz in L.A. Noire. What games are you guys in middle of playing?

I’m with OOM. Mods, I think it’s extremely rude to delete a post in which a few people are waiting for an answer. Some of us want to make career choices out of this. Sure I can Google, but here I have a frum person who can tell me his experience in working in this industry, and that can benefit me soo much.

Repharim, can you please try again? Thanks! =)

yehudayona, I found this thread highly offensive, as well, even wrote a post stating so. But I decided last minute to edit it out. I figured this will be just another “in through one ear out the other” post that seem to be so famous here in the CR.

Just because a girl has interests and hobbies that do not interest you, that does not mean she’s a boring person, it just means she is not for you. Other guys would love that about her. If I met a guy who loves to read and write, and I’m talking real fiction, I would LOVE that. Most guys don’t have those interests and lots of girls might find it boring if they did, but I dont. It makes the guy unique and special, and I’d take that over someone who is like everyone else.

OOM, I think I’m more hopeless than you lol.

I think it’s hard to come by a good guy these days.

Have fun playing! =). And welcome to the CR!

I didn’t finish it yet, but I hope to one day. Oh, you might like this: a part of the game is having to drive from location to location in LA, and I always speed and knock into things and cost the city of LA thousands of dollars lol. Sometimes I feel like I’m playing Blur lol! And I steal civilians’ cars all the time -). It’s fun! And I don’t think I ever played Quake. The cover looks a little bit like Oblivy!

One of Many, yeah, of course I heard of them. Sorry, I meant I never played them. I did want to get into FF, but there are soo many games I want to try, so I guess I never got around to it. My platform is PC, so I don’t really play a lot of non-PC games.

Curiosity, dude, DOOM is awesome! One of my favorites. Others are: One Must Fall, Raptor Call of the Shadows, Skyroads, Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen, Life and Death 2: the Brain. That’s a brain surgery game which was just sooo fun! And a lot of others, too. I still play a lot of them, since I have a program that lets me play DOS games on my computer.

Sam2, no, it’s probably the LOL you think. I don’t think such small crowd plays. Don’t know why others do, but I was looking for a free multiplayer game I could play with my sis, and I found LOL. Fell in love with it the minute I saw one of the characters. I don’t play competitively, though, just against Bots. I don’t like playing with or against a bunch of jerks lol

Nah I never liked command and conquer. The game I was talking about is Caesar 3. Do you know how much I learned from that game? And I loved age of empires! I think Aoe2 is the best though, such awesome music! And I played starcraft as a teen, but they kept calling me “son” and I was like, I’m not a dude! So I quit that one. As for the 12 games I still need to play, let’s see if I can remember…(I have a list somewhere on my computer): mass effect, fallout, oblivion, blur, some Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Some strategy games similar to Aoe, guild wars, Aoeo, grand ages Rome which is like Caesar 3. Call of duty, league of legends, trine and trine 2 and I know theres more but I can’t remember. I mostly play pc games though I’m dying for an Xbox. I do play some Wii. Don’t know if you remember DOS games but they ruled! Oh and I love Mario games.

One of many, thanks! I dont know any of those games. That’s cute about your brother, I did the same thing to mine until I started to play.

Curiosity, yeah, I love playing so much, but I don’t have so much time. I usually squeeze em in at night, at say, *cough* past midnight lol. But ohhh so worth it! And I get weird obsessions, like right now I’m playing a strategy game I haven’t played since I was 10-13. It’s just so awesome. Wish I can play every single game out there, though impossible (I still have 12+ lined up). Right now I am focusing most of my time on my writing, so that might explain why I’m up past midnight playing a game when I should be in bed…

One of Many, hi! Thanks for thinking about me. I saw this thread and I just had to post lol. I might be back, since I have some more free time than before. Although there are a few times here and there where I wanna slap people…we’ll see. But thanks so much! I did miss you! And I didn’t know you played games. What are your favorites?

I wouldn’t say I’m a casual gamer girl, I’d say I’m a HARD CORE gamer girl =). And I dont get why any girl would want to keep that a secret. I’ve played games all my life, and I hope to continue playing after I’m married. My guy better be a gamer too =). Isn’t it a dream for a guy to want a girl who plays games? Oh, and I’ve definitely played Wow, warcraft 3 wc2. I love the night elves. But nothing beats Oblivion!

ilovetheholyland: if you do look put together and are not getting any chances, the problem is that you are looking for the wrong type of guy. Do you honestly want to marry a guy who sorta forced you to lose weight just to go out with him? Lose the weight for yourself, not for anyone else. Are you happy where you’re holding regarding your weight? If the answer is yes, go find a guy who feels the same. Branch out to other types of guys, maybe ones who actually appreciate a girl’s inside more than her outside. Stay happy and healthy.

avhaben, I suggest you watch the movie and see for yourself whether it’s appropriate for YOUR kids. We don’t know you, what type of home you have, what is “kosher” for your kids. I don’t think you should rely on other people to tell you what to allow your kids to see. I personally would let my kids watch the movie. But I am not you.

cshapiro, I have a suggestion for you. Why don’t you and your hubby make yourselves a cleaning schedule? Divide the work between the two of you, and do a little bit every night. Crank up the music and get to work. It might even be fun! You and hubby cleaning together for your first pesach! Don’t look at it as a chore but a project you two are tackling together, and a big mitzvah.

About living in Lakewood…you should speak to your husband about that since you’re so unhappy. Is there any way you could move?

    Good luck!

Coffee addict, no I don’t think anyone should run away from their problems. I’m referring to a woman escaping a dangerous and unhealthy environment. Women should be able to take care of themselves just in case they were to find themselves in such a situation.

Coffee addict, I don’t know what happened 100 years ago in every household, but this is what I think: 100 years ago, women had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Their husbands took care of them. So if a woman did want to escape where would she go? So she just dealt with it. Now women realize that they CAN leave, that they CAN take care of themselves, that they don’t have to rely on a man or to deal with the mistreatment because they can take care of themselves.

And I know men don’t like to hear this, but lots of men are jerks.

By women going out and working it gives them confidence and gratification. In a perfect world, all men would be sweet and awesome guys who would take care, provide, and love their wife and kids. But we don’t live in a perfect world and women all over the world suffer due to the men. I think every woman should have the means to provide for herself just in case she may have to be on her own one day. To rely on a man and be so helpless is actually pretty scary.

I guess it’s just to keep things from getting too confusing?

Thanks for your reply, The Chassidishe Gatesheader.

The thing I have an issue with is: why should girls even have to wear makeup? It should be love “me the way I am.” Even if a girl doesn’t want to wear makeup, everyone around her does, and the thought of her husband looking at other girls really scares her, so she puts on makeup. Or even a girl who’s dating–she might be scared that guys won’t feel attracted to her the way they feel attracted to other girls because she doesn’t wear makeup. Sigh.

My principal also said that line, that a girl should be attractive but not attracting. I didn’t really get it either, and I thought it was really ridiculous.

Hey, chocolateluver. I also really love food! I’m going to tell you what works for me, but I’m not sure if it works for everyone. I let myself eat whatever I want, because if I start to limit myself I’ll go crazy and end up binging. So what I do is I try to burn off at least 1000 calories a day (preferably 1200-1600. My goal is at least 1200). I’m spoiled because I have an exercise bike in my basement, but I think walking helps a lot. If you can walk to and from school/work, you will burn a lot of calories. But if you do have the chance to use exercise equipment, like a treadmill or bike, it’s okay if you skip a day, or only manage to burn off 600 calories as opposed to 1000. The point is to at least burn something. I don’t know if you’re okay with exercise DVDs, but if you are, there are many you can buy. I have one that’s only 20-40 minutes. I don’t really like it because I got sick of it, but maybe it’ll work for you. Perseverance is the key because doing exercise every single day could get so boring, but after about 3 weeks, the results start to show and the feeling is amazing!

    Good luck!
