Not sure I understand what you’re asking. I am a Jewish writer–what I mean by that is that I’m Jewish (frum) and I write. Not that I write/publish Jewish books. I have self-published a few secular novels, and to all those who claim self-publishing is easy, it’s not. Not at all. It takes A LOT of hard work and the market is very competitive. It’s extremely hard to stand out. I’ve heard over a hundred books get published a day on Amazon Kindle.

I am considering the possibility of publishing a frum Jewish novel. I will definitely self-publish as opposed to finding a Jewish publisher. Not sure if anyone would be interested in reading my Jewish books, though (Jews or non-Jews). What I’d really love to see is frum writers taking control and writing REAL books with deep, complex characters dealing with REAL issues, and are gutsy enough to actually write about topics that no one would dream of writing in the current Jewish publishing market. And self-publishing them where readers from all over can have access to them (and pay a decent price as opposed to the ridiculous prices they pay for Jewish books now).

Seriously, Sam 2, I didn’t expect this from you. While I do agree that women having a lulav and esrog is a bit much, keep your eyes in your own section. There is nothing wrong with girls going to shul. If they didnt go people would complain that they never go. No matter what we do, we always get criticized, ain’t that right?

Curiosity, just wanted to advise you not to get too worked up over this. I had a similar situation happen to me a while ago where I was discussing my writing with another member, and a member came in and was totally rude and disrespectful. So the best thing to do is steer clear of the jerks and carry on. We were having soo much fun and they all felt left out so they had to say something negative 😛

Sooooo, back to regular programming. I’m up to the last board in my Caesar game and once I’m done I shall resume my awesome detective, and not-so-awesome driving, skillz in L.A. Noire. What games are you guys in middle of playing?

yehudayona, I found this thread highly offensive, as well, even wrote a post stating so. But I decided last minute to edit it out. I figured this will be just another “in through one ear out the other” post that seem to be so famous here in the CR.

Just because a girl has interests and hobbies that do not interest you, that does not mean she’s a boring person, it just means she is not for you. Other guys would love that about her. If I met a guy who loves to read and write, and I’m talking real fiction, I would LOVE that. Most guys don’t have those interests and lots of girls might find it boring if they did, but I dont. It makes the guy unique and special, and I’d take that over someone who is like everyone else.

Hiya MP! -). Oh yeah…I don’t recommend playing that one. While it is cool, there does show some er…stuff that I don’t think people would wanna see lol. I didn’t finish it yet, but I hope to one day. Oh, you might like this: a part of the game is having to drive from location to location in LA, and I always speed and knock into things and cost the city of LA thousands of dollars lol. Sometimes I feel like I’m playing Blur lol! And I steal civilians’ cars all the time -). It’s fun! And I don’t think I ever played Quake. The cover looks a little bit like Oblivy!

Nah I never liked command and conquer. The game I was talking about is Caesar 3. Do you know how much I learned from that game? And I loved age of empires! I think Aoe2 is the best though, such awesome music! And I played starcraft as a teen, but they kept calling me “son” and I was like, I’m not a dude! So I quit that one. As for the 12 games I still need to play, let’s see if I can remember…(I have a list somewhere on my computer): mass effect, fallout, oblivion, blur, some Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Some strategy games similar to Aoe, guild wars, Aoeo, grand ages Rome which is like Caesar 3. Call of duty, league of legends, trine and trine 2 and I know theres more but I can’t remember. I mostly play pc games though I’m dying for an Xbox. I do play some Wii. Don’t know if you remember DOS games but they ruled! Oh and I love Mario games.

I wouldn’t say I’m a casual gamer girl, I’d say I’m a HARD CORE gamer girl =). And I dont get why any girl would want to keep that a secret. I’ve played games all my life, and I hope to continue playing after I’m married. My guy better be a gamer too =). Isn’t it a dream for a guy to want a girl who plays games? Oh, and I’ve definitely played Wow, warcraft 3 wc2. I love the night elves. But nothing beats Oblivion!

ilovetheholyland: if you do look put together and are not getting any chances, the problem is that you are looking for the wrong type of guy. Do you honestly want to marry a guy who sorta forced you to lose weight just to go out with him? Lose the weight for yourself, not for anyone else. Are you happy where you’re holding regarding your weight? If the answer is yes, go find a guy who feels the same. Branch out to other types of guys, maybe ones who actually appreciate a girl’s inside more than her outside. Stay happy and healthy.

writersoul, that was such a terrific post! Don’t worry about how you look. One day a guy will love and appreciate you for who you are, not what size you are, how pretty your hair is, how “terrible” your nose is. Don’t get depressed over the stupidities of these ridiculous people. Just have confidence in yourself and your husband will treasure you =).

Coffee addict, I don’t know what happened 100 years ago in every household, but this is what I think: 100 years ago, women had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Their husbands took care of them. So if a woman did want to escape where would she go? So she just dealt with it. Now women realize that they CAN leave, that they CAN take care of themselves, that they don’t have to rely on a man or to deal with the mistreatment because they can take care of themselves.

And I know men don’t like to hear this, but lots of men are jerks.

By women going out and working it gives them confidence and gratification. In a perfect world, all men would be sweet and awesome guys who would take care, provide, and love their wife and kids. But we don’t live in a perfect world and women all over the world suffer due to the men. I think every woman should have the means to provide for herself just in case she may have to be on her own one day. To rely on a man and be so helpless is actually pretty scary.

I only watched part two. It’s great and all, but something bothered me. I have nothing against Chassidim, but it bugged me when Oprah said stuff like “Hassidic Jews cover their hair.” “Hassidic Jews wear black hats and have beards.” “Hassidic Jews keep kosher.” All frum Jews keep all of that (well, except the beards). I guess it’s just to keep things from getting too confusing?

Hey, chocolateluver. I also really love food! I’m going to tell you what works for me, but I’m not sure if it works for everyone. I let myself eat whatever I want, because if I start to limit myself I’ll go crazy and end up binging. So what I do is I try to burn off at least 1000 calories a day (preferably 1200-1600. My goal is at least 1200). I’m spoiled because I have an exercise bike in my basement, but I think walking helps a lot. If you can walk to and from school/work, you will burn a lot of calories. But if you do have the chance to use exercise equipment, like a treadmill or bike, it’s okay if you skip a day, or only manage to burn off 600 calories as opposed to 1000. The point is to at least burn something. I don’t know if you’re okay with exercise DVDs, but if you are, there are many you can buy. I have one that’s only 20-40 minutes. I don’t really like it because I got sick of it, but maybe it’ll work for you. Perseverance is the key because doing exercise every single day could get so boring, but after about 3 weeks, the results start to show and the feeling is amazing!
