Guess we are in one of the last cities to finish this fast. I have cinnimon rolls baking with a second batch for my neighbor who made a double batch of onion soup to swap. By that time I will be sick to my stomache but the men in the house will just be getting started. Cereal and milk was always the breaker in my house growing up but my kids like the cinnamon roll minhag I started last year.

    (boy am I hungry)

I don’t like perpetuating the ‘cheap Jew’ image so whenever I took my kids for a free small slurpee, I always purchased a medium for myself. My daughter seems to have felt the same, she brought the kids home that day with a big gulp for herself.

I didn’t say he was 10, I said he can get medicine if he is AT LEAST 10. Or maybe your doctor gives to younger kids. Either way, I am NOT being mean in saying that maybe he shouldn’t go, I think it would be mean to send a kid to camp knowing his clothes and bed may smell and he may be harassed. Sure, you can change his sheets and wash them in the morning- in WHAT washing machine? and who has that kind of availability? It MAY not be a problem for your kid in that particular camp, but I sure wouldn’t recommend it across the board without looking into it really well.

Postsem – I brought the kids too early, forgot they don’t start til 11, so I made my daughter take them the second time around.

Goq – I got your order ready and left it with musser zoger at the address you mentioned. He’ll be the one in sackcloth crying at the gates with a shechted goat at his side. You can’t miss him.

DY – I know, but he can help them with this and it’s not worth steering them off course (coming from the tangent queen herself). They don’t have to read his blog, just send him the name and he will let them know what is already ‘out there’ about him. I would hate for them to change their minds from a lack of direction.

If you want to know if this person is known, google Yerachmiel Lopin. I don’t agree with everything he posts, but he is a big fighter for molesters going to jail and will check out names and ask around for other victims. It may be worth contacting him through his website for that.

Oh My Gosh! Goq- I just figured out how to find out your identity! I’m gonna go to all the 7-11 stores in NY and ask if anyone came in for a free diet coke slurpee!

You should know that your response to him now (how you treat him, if you still consider him valuable, if you choose to defend him) will make a huge difference to him in his healing. You said you were in touch with Avi, does he have names to suggest or a derech to follow?

I don’t have an opinion either way about straws for a child that age, And I did not say anything was “troublesome”‘ I am talking about not being able to drink from a cup and minding spills. Feel free to be bothered but that doesn’t change much. I am equally bothered when things are pushed aside without looking into them, I have seen much damage done. I am a pediatric OT who, like you, has a background in early childhood and I have seen a lot of teachers tell parents not to worry without bothering to look further into their questions. I am not hindering their growth, there needs to be a balance from all sides.

Yes Oomis, I was referring to drinking from a cup, not feeding himself. And my response was more about the attitude than the baby in question. I cannot tell you how many babies/children I treat for developmental issues that should have been treated months or years before. So often the mothers gave them leeway beyond what they should have because of the huge windows and different rates. Sometimes it’s nothing (and I will be the first to say so) but sometimes the kids are needlessly behind and it takes a lot of work to catch up.

**end of plea for appropriate early intervention**

Morahrach-with the “huge window” a child should use a cup by 9-11 months. And a child at that age should not care if he spills.

The window is for the range of normal for acquiring the skill. The does not imply that there isn’t a ceiling.

Im not sure what you mean by “teach”, the baby should be able to use a cup by 9-11 months. If he is spilling, that should not be bothering him at that age. Practice makes perfect so the more he uses the cup the better he should get at it.

147-thanks for that idea. I think I will ask if there is a recording. I didn’t go to the levaya because it hit too close to home. I lost a sister weeks before her high school graduation as she and her friends prepared for seminary. I thought it would be too hard to relive it so i didn’t go, and have not stopped regretting it.

I think my k9 filter has a virus. It has been very reliable for years but now it has blocked everything from the Internet except you tube and gmail! Even when I put a time block on and added YouTube to the block list, it is still allowing those two sites all the time. And no, my kids did not do it. It is so strange.

I just think it’s awesome that I understand the psychology behind it.

I think it is funny that you think you understand the psychology behind it when you have been given so many other reasons why they may have done it. And I think a messy room/tznius are much more likely reasons. They would definitely be mine.

Our neighborhood had an ice cream truck driven by a Christian guy from Jordan who loved Jews. Every time we bought from him he gave us two free bars. He wouldn’t let any of the Jewish kids buy bars without a hechsher and he knew which ones were parve/not chalav company. He said he came in the summers to earn money to live off of for the year in Jordan. I trusted him, but I wasn’t sure where my money was going after he brought it back.

This whole thing is kind of odd. I would lock my bedroom door for sure because I don’t want guest even to look in there. Perhaps it is messy and I didn’t have time to clean my apartment AND my not-being-used rooms. To turn around and say I am rude, paranoid or whatever is ridiculous in light of the fact that I just left you with my entire apart, ent including my keys! Maybe some of you have extensive cleaning help and don’t understand what it feels like to be embarrased by someone peeking into your room.

If I knew my guest was going to respond as you did, I would most certainly say no next time. If there is gratitude, you’ve disguised it well.

I guess some people are just so immune to breaking laws and caring about yenem that they are in the “everything is ok” as long as my kid is occupied stage. Thats totally anti Torah thinking.

that is ridiculous. how many people here had a clue that it was illegal? Most assumed you were joking, and I still don’t believe it’s true. To think that that implies we have such a mindset as you mention is beyond silly. You are either playing your part well, or jumping over an abyss to draw conclusions.

Thank you, I appreciate the explanation. Perhaps I culturally use the word criticize differently. And I do remember clearly that you were one of the very few who bothered to comment when a different poster was being quite rude. For the most part, though, I stand by my comment. Those who have been much more irritating/upsetting have been left to roam free. I guess Amalek never jumped into that tub.
