“In Eretz Yisroel the guy and gal meet at a mutually agreed location whereas in America they follow the practice adopted from the goyim of the guy coming to pickup the girl.”

Yet another reason to live in E”Y instead of shmutz la’aretz.

“You seem to have a preference for Chareidi Gedolim.”

I’m sure you noticed that two of the Gedolim were/are Baltimore based. There were no Gedolim of the M.O. variety living in Baltimore while I was growing up.

I met HaRav Scheinberg while I was a newlywed and learning in Yerushalayim.

The Wolf: “Yes, I’m sure someone will come through here shortly to advise me to check my yichus, as someone who doesn’t like beer certainly isn’t Jewish… :: rolling my eyes ::”

Years ago, as a teenager, I went into a deli and ordered a corned beef on rye – with ketchup. (I hated mustard, and I still do.) The lady behind the counter looked at me strangely and asked, “Are you sure you’re Jewish?” I guess it’s better not to mess with people’s expectations.

Can we not make it 5th grade? That wasn’t such a good year for me; the teacher was great, but I had a bout of laziness that didn’t serve me well. How about 4th grade? That was a really great year. 3rd grade was fantastic; our teacher was Mrs. Wildstein, and she read to us every day from one of Roald Dahl’s books. She turned me into a lifelong reader, for which I am forever grateful.

In the states, it’s Molson, but I can’t get that in Israel.

There’s a brewery/restaurant called Jem’s in Petach Tikva that has really good beer. I haven’t seen any of their bottles down here in the south, but they sell them in the merkaz.

If you’re taking a poll, you need to ask a question (or questions).
A statement is not a poll.

Curiosity, are you for real? I only ask because your post sounds suspiciously like a troll post.

Obviously, you don’t know any actual teachers, because otherwise you wouldn’t be saying things like “go home at 3:00.” The teachers I know do not leave right away – many of them stay late to tutor kids that need help, attend staff meetings, and so on. And even if they do go home at 3, so what? Are you counting the unpaid time they put in at home grading and correcting papers, planning lessons, and making phone calls to parents about how their little angels misbehave in class, or are not doing homework, or are failing the class.

I’d say the teachers deserve a vacation just for putting up with the rude and misbehaving kids.

Here’s an idea……forget Lakewood. There are many other places in the Jewish world with affordable housing and access to great Yeshivas.

    Yerushalayim
    Bnei Brak
    Kiryat Sefer
    Ashdod
    Beitar Illit
    Beit Shemesh/Ramat Beit Shemesh
    Elad
Just to list a few. What is this obsession with Lakewood?

There were once five shules in the Randallstown area. They are all gone now; either they’ve moved or merged with other shules within the eruv. The community there waited too long to put up an eruv; by the time they did so, most of the people in my generation had already moved within the Park Heights eruv. It was a shame. I have many very fond memories of growing up there and of the shules in the area.

“There is two main Jewish communities there, Park Heights Ave. area and the Yeshiva area.”
You’re off by one – there are three main communities. You missed Greenspring. There may even be a fourth; as I understand, more and more frum people are moving further down Smith Avenue, beyond the ABC streets.

I was born in Baltimore. I grew up there, and lived most of my life there. Back in the 70s and 80s there was an active, large MO community there. There were shules outside the Park Heights/Greenspring areas, most notably in Randallstown. There were more community and shule Rabbis that saw beyond the chareidi worldview.
The frum community in Baltimore has become much more closed. There are less than a handful of shules that still retain any sort of MO mindset.

I dont know why companies just cannot let the consumer be happy with their purchase and use the product as they wish. Its like this forbidden feeling that the companies have regarding not locking your phone.

Look, you always have a choice. If you want to buy the phone from your cell provider, you take the risk of having a locked phone. If you want an unlocked phone, buy it new from a reliable place. This isn’t rocket science, and in the scheme of things, it’s not worth obsessing about.

My favorite siddur, alas, has not be printed in many years. It was called Minchas Yerushalayim – a small but thick siddur of about 1500 pages. It had EVERYTHING in there that would be related to davening. I wore out 4 of them. It’s my understanding that the family that holds the publishing rights no longer permits printing, and that’s a pity.

It’s not illegal for missionaries to operate in Israel among adults, as long as no money changes hands.

Joe, I do not seek nor do I need your forgiveness.

You have no idea why we eat kitniyot, nor is it any of your business. I’m not in the habit of explaining myself to anonymous people on the internet. Just rest assured that we did not take this step by ourselves; I asked a shyla to our Rav, who asked his Rav, who asked his Rosh Yeshiva. The process itself took over a year before we received an answer.

“takahmamash: Is everything about money? What about good-tasting homemade food??”

Joseph, there are only two of us home full time now. The homemade hummus doesn’t last as long, because it doesn’t have the preservatives that the commercial stuff has. I love hummus, I love my wife’s hummus, but I can’t eat all the hummus before it would begin to turn bad.

When we first made aliyah, we had 3 kids living at home full time; we’d finish a 1 kg container of hummus about every 10 days. We don’t even buy that size container anymore, because there’s no one home to eat it.

We had a list of pre-chuppa pictures, as did the other side. We simply ran down the list, as did they, and it went very quickly. Also, each side had a prepared photo list for after the chupa, and again, things went very quickly. Outdoor pictures of the chatan and kalla (separately) were done before we were scheduled to be at the hall. All in all, the photo shoots went quickly.

CTL, we hired the wedding planner for many other reasons, not just for the day of the wedding. She (and her husband, they work as a team) did an amazing job, both before and during the affair.

For my daughter’s wedding, we hired a wedding planner. She had a schedule, down to the minute, and went over it with everyone – the families, mesader kiddushin, caterer, hall, photographer, and band. Everything ran like clockwork and went off without a hitch B”H. If people left early, it wasn’t because we ran behind.

We met our now son-in-law about 2 months after he began dating our daughter. We met them at a restaurant. He was in the IDF at the time, so he showed up with his rifle and his pistol. I’ve joked with him since then that it was backwards, the girl’s father is supposed to show up with the gun. (He also found a “permission to date my daughter” form online, which he printed out and filled in humorously. We still have it.)
