YW Moderator-42 can see which country your IP address is from, so I’m not sure how he could be mistaken about Australia. Additionally, considering that the time you made your post was Shabbos in most of the world, including America, Europe, and Israel, there really isn’t that many places left. Hong Kong?

    Moshiach please come:

According to the timestamp on your post (OP), you posted somewhere between when it was 7:20 and 8:20 AM in New York on Shabbos morning. So I am wondering where in the world you were when it wasn’t Shabbos at that time? (China?)

If Charlie is referring to Rav Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg zt’l (the Seridei Eish), a talmid of Mir and Slabodka, he most assuredly was not an intellectual founder or member of MO.

When we go up to shamayim after 120 years I don’t think the first question we will be asked is “did you only eat heimishe brands and products?”

In shamayim they’ll give you credit if you give parnassa to a Yid, by buying a Yid’s product rather than a nochri’s.

we didn’t need Chofetz Chaim heritage to tell us what we are permitted or not permitted to say/speak

You did need it, you just never realized how you needed it.

Getting drunk “ad dlo yoda” is the basic and poshut pshat of the mitzvah on Purim. Are there shittos that hold you don’t have to? Sure, and I won’t hold it against anyone who has a rov that allows him not to get stone drunk and he doesn’t. I won’t even accuse such person of cherry picking his way out of his chiyuv to get drunk. But getting completely drunk is the basic understanding of the mitzvah and what many (if not most) prominent gedolei poskim hold must be done.

ovktd: What’s so hard to make of it? It’s a mitzvah for them to get drunk and Rav Shmuel was merely encouraging them to do a mitzvah.

Does anyone remember way back to a thing called a “landline”? It was a little bit similar to a cellphone, but it was attached to your house wall an you were tethered to it while talking. Imagine that.

    Ahh, the nostalgia!

Rav Schwab published his article in question in K’hal Adath Jeshurun’s journal “Mitteilungen” XLIX, April/May 1989: p. 2, under the title “He Who Loves Does Not Hate”.

I heard a story that when the Satmar Rebbe hired the English principal for the Yeshiva, he told him if you teach them kach v’kach secular studies your salary is $40,000. If you teach the students more than kach v’kach secular studies, your salary is $35,000! (The numbers aren’t exact, but the point is.)

In any event, since when does the bigoted reaction of Chiloni Jews determine if something is a chillul Hashem? It does not.

There is a vast difference between public affection and private affection. One can give all the private affection in the world.
