Acc to the Shulchan Aruch Harav there are two mitzvos; limud torah and yidiass hatorah. Even if there is no limud here, the listening probably generates yidiass hatorah. For non-chabad chassidim I don’t think this requirement of shomeah kioneh is followed so much or else this extremely-relevant-to-daily-living- din would be very famous and people would announce before shiurim to michaven lotzes.

(I don’t know why the requirement of mitzvos tzrichos kavanah doesn’t apply to talmud torah especially since it is a mitzvah dioraysah. Why doesn’t everyone have to first think that I am now fulfilling the mitzvah…. before every torah related discussion. It may be because the source for MTK from aseh lishem poalam does not apply to talmud torah as the Nefesh Hachaim discusses.

But if the person is intending to get hanaah from the video itself(plot, action, comedy)and not the women, then would the untzniyusdik dress be considered an unintended ri’iyah which R Moshe allowed for a businessman required to go to work as long as he can trust himself to guard from improper thoughts?

Probably OBPMH only applies to a chiyuv

One stops learning if there is a miztvah that cannot be performed by another since the CHIYUV of talmud torah is only during free time so once the miztvah comes there is no OBPMH.

I think that to breath fire you drink alcohol and then spit/breath on a small flame and it bursts into fire. To eat fire you put the torch in your mouth and breath in. The lack of oxygen suffocates the flame and extinguishes it. Beware! Risk of self-detonation, intoxication and/or transforming into a dragon.

I don’t think that “Loeg larash” applies to a dead goy. The MB says that Loeg Larash only applies to a dead koton since his neshama may have been the neshama of a gadol, and therefore he was once chayav in mitzvos.

It seems to me that the mishnah berurah in ?? is saying that if the child can eat 1/8 the speed of an adult the dinn aplies. Therefore if an adult takes y amount of time to eat x amount of this food then the tinok must be able to eat x/8 of this food within that time. If the tinok eats matzah and it takes 40 minutes for an adult to eat a “pras” of matzah then the tinok must be able to eat a kizayis within 40 minutes. This is not saying that on pesach if you eat a kizayis within 40 minutes that you have done a halachik “achilah”, since an achilah has to be eaten within a “kidey achilas pras” which is the time to eat half a loaf of bread.

I dont know if a mitzvass eseh of michias amolek would be able to be docheh a chiyuv misah bidei shomayim (suicide).

You also should consider that for jews there is a concept of shchitah so he may have been mikayem the mitzvah as soon as he chops off his own head, or the idea of shchitah may only apply to animals but for people “death” is when the heart stops beating.

Different sources regarding the height of the giants discussed by the torah.

Rashi (Zvachim) says that Og didn’t die during the mabul because he stood next to the teivah and he was too tall to drown. This implies that he was taller than even the mountains which were covered by water.

We also find the description of the Giants given by the miraglim that “we were like grasshoppers in their eyes”. There are several interpretations of this but according to those who understand this literally (e.g. the Gra) this fits with Rashi’s pshat

Pirkei Drabi Eliezer says that the teivah had a ladder on the outside. Og survived the mabul by sitting on one

of the rungs. According to this he was much smaller.

The pasuk says that Og’s bed was 9×4 armlengths according to the armlength/amah of “ISH” (a man). An amah is between 18-24 inches. This would make Og about 13.5-18 feet tall.

Rashi learns that the “ISH” in this pasuk means Og himself and therefore you cant use this pasuk as proof of his height.

The Ibn Ezra quoted above says that this would require Og to have a greatly misshaped body if his arms were only a ninth of his height and therefore he learns that the armlength used above to measure is the same one that we use.

According to what was mentioned in the above post that a giant would require large legs to support his body, it could be according to Rashi that the pasuk is telling you exactly that, that he was so misformed because of his great size.

The Rashbam has a different beautiful approach that the reason that the pasuk describes his bed is because it is giving us his dimensions as a baby. “His cradle was 9×4 amos according to the amah of an “ish” – full grown person.” according to this he was much larger as an adult.

The pasuk in Nach that describes Golias says that he was a descendant of the giants and he was 6 and a half amos tall (10-13 feet). This sounds more like those that argue with rashi’s pshat but it could be that this was after many generations of mixed-breeding so he wasn’t so big.

in reply to: Is An Amalekite Allowed to Commit Suicide? #941961

I have actually spent some time on this question and it seems a very complicated issue regarding schar for an Amaleiki who kills himself.

First of all, we find the gemara in kiddushin that says that non-jews do get rewarded for fulfilling one of our Taryag mitzvos. This is learnt from the story of Dama ben nesinah who was rewarded with a parah aduma for not waking up his father.

Also I heard that the Maharal says that chasidei umos haolam do recieve some form of Olam Habaah for fulfilling their mitzvos.

Regarding the issur for a goy to commit suicide, it is a machlokes achronim. The Minchas Chinuch says that since the issur suicide is not learnt from the pasuk “lo sirtzach” it doesn’t apply to goyim, since to be included in the “7 mitzvos” a mitzvah had to be repeated at sinai.

Others ask from a psiktah that says that “lo sirtzach” can be darshaned to mean “lo sisratzach” -don’t be killed (suicide).

The Rambam in milochim says that if an Amaleiki accepts the 7 mitzvos and agrees to be at peace with us then there is no mitzvah to kill him. Since this amaleiki is now killing himself, he is now at peace with us and he also will not be able to be ovver on any of his 7 mitzvos. This may count as an Amaleiki which there is no mitzvah to kill.

However regarding the mitzvah of establishing courts, he may still be liable if it was in his ability to do so while he was alive.

If we follow the shitah (see above) that suicide is assur for goyim, this should constitute a mitzvah haboah biaveirah. However according to the MC this Amaleiki would probably not be chayav to be killed since he was mikabel the 7 mitzvos and is not doing anything wrong now.

The Rambam in milochim 5′ 3′ says that “tshuvah” is only possible for jews. Therefore if this amaleiki was once ovver on one of his 7 mitzvos, he cannot do tshuvah and should be killed, not for being an amaleiki but for not keeping his 7 mitzvos. If this amaleiki was ever in his life ovver on one of his lavvin, he should be permitted to kill himself through “Hereg” (the misah for goyim). I don’t know if a goy who gets killed for his aveirah gets back his Olom habah and recieves reward for the mitzvos that he did.

To summarize- An amaleiki who kills himself way have done an aveirah and lost his Olam Habaah (????? ???? ???? ??? ?? ??? ????? ???) he may have done a mitzvah or it may just be allowed but not a mitzvah.

    Comments welcome (lihagdil torah)

Kiddushin- one who abides by “bein odom limakom” alone is a tzaddik ra. One who abides by only bein odom lichaveiro is a rasha tov.

I don’t really get the problem, as yit is saying. The ability for an aseh to take precedence over a lavv is based on the aseh having greater status. A weaker aseh would not have this ability and the rule wouldn’t apply. But a weaker lavv would forsure get pushed by an aseh.

Since the newly recreated bodies will be completely clean of tumaah, I think they will have the status of the bodies of Adam and Chava before they ate from the ?? ????. This means that there will be no need for clothes.

Regarding overpopulation, since everyone will live in EY, this wont be a problem because EY has/had the ability to expand based on its population.
